UPDATED: Anthony Attorney Fights Sworn Depositions
Kronk Considers Legal Action Against Padilla
POSTED: 10:55 am EST February 23, 2009
UPDATED: 3:05 pm EST February 23, 2009
<snipped>
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The lawyer for George and Cindy Anthony, grandparents of slain toddler Caylee Anthony, is promising a court fight to keep them from having to give sworn depositions Thursday.
If nothing happens, on Thursday George and Cindy Anthony are under subpoena to testify under oath about Fernandez-Gonzalez.
The Anthony's lawyer said attorney John Morgan's plan to depose the Anthonys in front of the press is ludicrous. He plans to ask a judge to at least postpone the depositions until the Anthonys are in better shape psychologically to answer more questions. "They're both fragile emotionally and they need to recover but it'll take a little bit of time. I don't want them going in there without a clear head," attorney Brad Conway said. Lee Anthony is scheduled to testify Friday. His lawyer said he does not plan to block the deposition because Lee knows nothing about Fernandez-Gonzalez and will say so.

Roy Kronk's attorney has sent Leonard Padilla a letter that demands he stop what Kronk considers personal attacks on various national platforms. Kronk's attorney, David Evans, who also represents WESH-TV, said he's documenting every Padilla statement and will consider action against him. Padilla responded to the letter by saying if Kronk wants a legal fight, he should "saddle up."

UPDATED: Casey Anthony's defense attorney center of another Florida Bar inquiry
Amy L. Edwards | Sentinel Staff Writer
2:43 PM EST, February 23, 2009

<snipped>
A Bar spokeswoman couldn't disclose details about the inquiry, but said it pertains to Baez's relationship with his now former media relations company.
Since fall, Baez's law firm referred news reporters to a spokesman named "Todd Black" with a company called Press Corps Media.
Black never agreed to in-person interviews with reporters, would not provide his photograph, and did not reveal his true identity.

Timothy Chinaris, an attorney representing Baez in that inquiry, told the Bar that Press Corps Media was retained by a Connecticut family. Chinaris said his client had not paid and will not pay "any part" of Press Corps Media's fees or expenses.

Baez has since hired Marti Mackenzie as his new spokeswoman. In an e-mail statement, Mackenzie said this afternoon: "The circumstances of Mr. Baez's now severed association with Press Corps Media have not changed; as Timothy Chinaris, an ethics attorney representing Baez in the first Bar inquiry, told the Bar, Press Corps Media claimed that it was retained by a Connecticut family. We expect that the Bar will again close the file and find that no disciplinary proceedings are appropriate."

Strangers Donate Hundreds Of Dollars To Casey Anthony
Monday, February 23, 2009 – updated: 6:02 pm EST February 23, 2009

<snipped>
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Who are the strangers who keep sending money to Casey Anthony in jail? The money comes from all over the country and in Central Florida, so Eyewitness News set out to find out who's doing it and why. Casey has received more than $1,000, mostly from strangers. More than $1,200 has been deposited into Casey's jail account since October. Twenty-five dollars came from a Cypress Creek High School student from Hunters Creek, just down the road from the jail.

Andrew Miller told Eyewitness News he really did it for Casey's father George. The 15-year-old gifted high school freshman said he doesn't have much money, but gave a substantial part of it to Casey Anthony
Miller said he needed to go to the memorial service to offer support and said it helped him as much as he hopes it helped George.
"Giving any sort of charity, be it psychological or real like money, it really just makes you feel better inside, helps your psyche a lot," he said.
The Anthony family is having financial difficulties, but George did manage to deposit $125 into Casey's jail account.

A "Casey Anthony" doll wrapped in an America flag is being sold on the auction site eBay.
The doll is the latest in a series of items people have tried to sell related to the case. Earlier, a Jacksonville company marketed a Caylee doll and someone was trying to sell Casey Anthony voodoo dolls on eBay.
Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her daughter Caylee.

UPDATED INFO: Meter reader Roy Kronk's attorney wants bounty hunter to shush
5:00 PM EST, February 23, 2009
<snipped>
He's tired of hearing the cowboy-hat-wearin' and toothpick-chewin' Padilla drag his name into conspiracy theories about Caylee Anthony the toddler whose remains were discovered in the woods by Kronk on Dec. 11.
Padilla doesn't understand why it's such a big deal.
It's no secret what he's doing, Padilla told the Orlando Sentinel today.
He's simply looking into the circumstances of how Caylee's remains were found.

"Things just don't add up," he said about how Kronk discovered the remains.
Padilla is convinced the meter reader was tipped off somehow. It's possible, the cowboy said, that Kronk may not know why the tip came to him.
"I'm continuing to get the bottom of it," Padilla said.

Casey Anthony case: Showdown looms over parents' depositions
posted by halboedeker on Feb 23, 2009 6:32:14 PM

The potential for fireworks in the Casey Anthony saga seems strong later this week.
George and Cindy Anthony's attorney says he will fight a plan to depose the couple in a defamation suit against their daughter, WESH-Channel 2 reported Monday.
The Anthonys are fragile emotionally, and questioning them in front of the press is ludicrous, attorney Brad Conway told WESH's Bob Kealing. Lee Anthony, Casey's brother, will be deposed this Friday, Kealing said.

In the murder case, Judge Stan Strickland could release another interview between investigators and Anthony private investigator Dominic Casey, Kealing reported. The release of another such interview generated headlines last week.

Roy Kronk Threatens To Sue Leonard Padilla
Meter Reader Found Remains Of Caylee Anthony In Wooded Lot
POSTED: Monday, February 23, 2009
UPDATED: 9:00 pm EST February 23, 2009
<snipped>
The attorney representing Roy Kronk, the Orange County worker who found the remains in a wooded lot in December, sent a letter to Padilla accusing him of trying to connect his client to Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony, her family and her defense team. Kronk said Padilla is using the national media to smear his name.
Meanwhile, Anthony's family is set to give depositions in the civil case against her this week.
Anthony's parents, George and Cindy Anthony, and her brother, Lee Anthony, will answer questions from the attorney representing Zenaida Gonzalez, who claims that Casey Anthony accused her of kidnapping Caylee.
Casey Anthony's attorneys argue that Gonzalez has not proved her reputation has been damaged.

Florida Bar Opens Another Inquiry Into Jose Baez
Monday, February 23, 2009 9:08:42 PM
<snipped>
A Bar spokeswoman would only tell the Orlando Sentinel it pertains to Jose Baez's relationship with his now-former media-relations company.
Since last fall, Baez's law firm referred news reporters to a spokesman named Todd Black with Press Corps Media. Black never agreed to in-person interviews with reporters, would not provide his photograph, and did not reveal his true identity.
The company later confirmed three people used the name of Todd Black, and confirmed one of those was actually Gil Cabot, who was convicted of extortion.
The Bar closed a similar investigation last fall, and Baez' new spokeswoman, Marti Mackenzie, said she expects them to close this one as well.

"Even though your public statements are pure speculation, with absolutely no factual basis . . . they are taken by many who do not know better as being true," the lawyer wrote.
Orange County hired Evans to represent Kronk. Evans is earning $225 hourly -- about $100 less than his normal rate, according to the terms of his agreement with the county. The fee is capped at $10,000.
Padilla doesn't understand why his talk of Kronk is such a big deal.
It's no secret what he is doing, Padilla said.

Zenaida Gonzalez Seeks Punitive Damages Against Casey Anthony
Anthony Remains Jailed On Murder Charge
POSTED: Tuesday, February 24, 2009
UPDATED: 4:45 pm EST February 24, 2009
<snipped>
Anthony said the woman suing her is not the person with whom she left Caylee and filed a countersuit against Gonzalez, claiming the lawsuit is frivolous.
Gonzalez's attorneys, John Morgan and Keith Mitnik, on Tuesday fired back at Anthony's attempt to have the lawsuit dismissed, attacking her claim that she cannot be sued for defamation for any lies she may have told investigators.
In the filing, Morgan and Mitnik said the law "does not give her a free pass to trash Zenaida Gonzalez" and they argued that not all of the alleged defamatory statements were made to authorities, saying Anthony's mother, Cindy Anthony -- at her daughter's prompting -- identified Gonzalez as a possible kidnapper.

Meanwhile, Casey Anthony's parents have moved to block questioning by Gonzalez's attorneys in the civil case. George and Cindy Anthony were expected to be deposed on Thursday, but that's now on hold, Local 6 News reported. Lee Anthony, Casey Anthony's brother, was to be questioned on Friday.

As for the criminal case against Casey Anthony, the state has given the defense two DVDs, one of which shows her behavior at sheriff's headquarters on the day she was indicted on a murder charge. The other shows Lee Anthony meeting with Casey Anthony's last boyfriend, Tony Lazzaro.

Casey Anthony: Could loss in defamation suit answer questions?

But how could she gain money if Casey Anthony is broke?
Morgan could check Casey's financial history and find out who is paying for her defense or if any entertainment deals have been made, Pipitone explained.
Such a development could answer several questions that have bewildered people who have followed the Caylee Anthony saga.
In another report about the defamation suit, WESH-Channel 2 reported that Brad Conway, attorney for George and Cindy Anthony, has filed a motion that the depositions of his clients be delayed or be done in writing.
"They have relevant information. It's very limited," Conway said.
Conway has revealed that George and Cindy Anthony are receiving professional help for grief over their granddaughter's murder.
Conway told WESH he hopes that a judge will decide the issue Wednesday, a day before the depositions are supposed to be given.

Their attorney won't let George and Cindy Anthony give sworn depositions until a judge orders them to do so, WESH-Channel 2 reported Tuesday afternoon.
Brad Conway, the attorney for the grandparents, filed a motion to block their testimony in Fernandez-Gonzalez's civil suit.
"This is certainly a legal line in the sand that has been drawn by the Anthonys' lawyer," WESH's Bob Kealing reported.
In his motion, Conway also revealed that George and Cindy Anthony are getting professional help for grief. Conway said that the depositions could open them to embarrassment. Conway asked that the depositions be delayed until after a May hearing into whether the defamation case will go forward.

Conway said George and Cindy Anthony have been under emotional stress since Caylee's death and their daughter's arrest, and have sought counseling. "They should not be subjected to additional publication of personal information while they are still grieving deeply," he wrote.
Conway pointed out that the information sought by Fernandez-Gonzalez's attorneys from the Morgan & Morgan law firm can be obtained through written questions. Another option is to delay the interview until after a May hearing on whether the case will be dismissed.
This request was filed the same day Fernandez-Gonzalez asked the court to allow her more than $15,000 in punitive damages.

ORLANDO -- The defamation case that claims Casey Anthony ruined the life of a woman named Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez has been delayed.
Brad Conway, the lawyer for Casey's parents, said his clients are not ready to give a public deposition in this case.
Conway said the public scrutiny is just too much and his clients have been through enough.

Judge Jose Rodriguez has given the media 20 days as to why they need to be there for the interviewing process of the Anthonys.
Conway will also have to give a psychological review to explain why they are not ready.
Conway said he wants at least five or six weeks before the case gets under way.
