The search for missing boy Gabriel Johnson continues and police now believe the 8-month old boy may be disguised as a girl.

Recent photos of Gabriel have been released and show Gabriel looking drugged and lethargic. He is holding a bottle of what appears to be infant Tylenol in one hand.

The babysitter told authorities that prior to her babysitting Gabriel for two hours, Elizabeth Johnson said that she had given the baby medicine and for her to give him more if he became fussy.

Family, friends gather at vigil for missing baby Gabriel

About 150 people attended a vigil Sunday at Chaparral Park in Scottsdale. The vigil was organized by Logan McQueary and Gabriel's aunt and uncle.

"It's sad that it's come to this," said Kelli McQueary, Gabriel's aunt. "It's something we needed to do to give back to the community who has done so much for us."

The vigil was full of local news media, which have been following the story since Gabriel's disappearance.

Through the media, the family pleaded to the public for Gabriel's homecoming.

At the vigil, Gabriel's dad appealed to Johnson through the media.

"I want her to stop being so stubborn," Logan McQueary said. "Just tell us what happened."

The vigil ended with Gabriel's cousins releasing white balloons and his dad releasing a green balloon in honor of Gabriel.

Everyone watched as the balloons floated away into the night.

Dozens attend candlelight vigil for missing Tempe baby
Last Update: 1/24 11:12 pm

While detectives continue to search for leads in the case of missing 8-month-old Gabriel Johnson, a large group gathered Sunday evening to hold a candlelight vigil to show support for the family.

"I just had to be here, I wake up every morning and check the computer to find out if this little boy has been returned home," said Katrina Bratteli, who drove an hour to Scottsdale to attend the vigil.

"I just want to thank everyone, the support is great, I'm very thankful," said Gabriel's father, Logan McQueary, during the vigil.

Meanwhile, Tempe detectives have processed a GPS device that may have been used by Gabriel's mother, Elizabeth.

Investigators say the information from the GPS, including its origin, cannot be released.

Tempe officers say the number of tips they've received in search of missing baby Gabriel has dropped.

"The tips are not coming in at the volume they were a week ago," said Tempe Lt. Mike Horn.

According to Tempe Officers, indications that Gabriel is alive are not as strong as they were earlier in the investigation, however, detectives continue to hold out hope the boy will be found alive.

Candlelight vigil held for missing infant

It’s been six weeks since Logan McQueary last saw his son. On Dec. 18 Gabriel’s mother, Elizabeth Johnson of Tempe, drove off with him in her grandfather’s white 1995 Delta-88 Oldsmobile to San Antonio, Tex. in the midst of a custody battle.

Logan McQueary said late Sunday that he wanted to keep the story in the forefront of the media in hopes of his son's safe return.

Tips to authorities are beginning to dwindle, but the story of “Baby Gabriel” is starting to be heard around the world as the McQuearys have received emails of support from people in Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Africa.

Large photographs of Gabriel were displayed at the vigil as family friends of the McQuearys passed out badges with Gabriel's picture that read "Pray for Baby Gabriel bring him home"

“Just tell us where he is,” said Logan McQueary, surrounded by numerous family and friends as he flanked his grandmother, Dorothy “Dot” Woodard, moments before the vigil in the neighborhood where he grew up.

“Maybe these people are out there and don’t want to give him up. We just don’t know. We want him back safe. If someone out there has him, we want these people to know he has a family who loves him.”

Authorities are re-tracing Johnson’s movements through a GPS tracking device and computers she logged into, including one on the the day of her arrest, according to her MySpace page.

McQueary’s uncle, Will McQueary, said he didn’t want to speculate what Johnson did with Gabriel.

“It’s one or the other,” McQueary said. “We just don’t know.”

Baby Gabriel's Mother Due Before an Ariz. Judge Today
After More Than a Month, the Search for Gabriel Continues
Jan. 25, 2010
<snipped>
Elizabeth Johnson, the mother of missing 8-month-old Gabriel, is due before an Arizona judge today when she is expected to plead not guilty to charges that include kidnapping, child abuse and custodial interference.

McQueary held a vigil last night in Scottsdale, Ariz., with his friends and family. He said he still holds out hope that his son, who has been missing for more than a month, will be found alive and returned home safely.

"I hope he comes back soon," McQueary said. "I want him back more than anything else."

Johnson has refused to speak to investigators, which has put them and the prosecution in a difficult position.

"It's the dilemma of, you have somebody incarcerated but you really need their help in finding this baby, and so the real key is communication between the police and Elizabeth because that relationship will get you that piece of information that you need," Brad Garrett, an ABC News consultant and former FBI agent, said.

Vigil for Baby Gabriel as leads dwindle
January 25th, 2010 @ 7:03am
<snipped>
Logan McQueary, the boy's father, said Sunday night's vigil did not mean the family is giving up on searching for Gabriel.

McQueary said he has not spoken with Johnson, but he wants her to tell the truth. He said no new information has come for days and tips about the baby's whereabouts have declined as time passes.

"I hope he comes back soon... I love him. I want him back more than anything else," McQueary said.

Meanwhile, former FBI special agent and ABC News consultant Brad Garrett said police need to keep trying to talk with Johnson "because that's going to be the key. It's going to give you more information even if she doesn't tell the truth... You have to basically convince her it's in maybe her best interests and the child's best interests to talk to you."

Garrett said police should retrace their steps.

"You may have to go back to the hotel again, pull the records of people that were staying at the hotel. Supposedly other people saw her in San Antonio with Gabriel. All of those people need to be found and interviewed."

Garrett said police also need to look at cellphones and other communications by Johnson, as well as track her car.

Elizabeth Johnson, the mother of the Tempe baby who has been missing for a month now, is due in court today.

Indicted in the case more than a week ago, she is expected to plead not guilty to charges of abuse and kidnapping during that video arraignment.

Investigators are continuing to comb through evidence taken from the home of Jack and Tammi Smiths. The Smiths tied to adopt Gabriel in the weeks before he vanished. Police have since labeled them persons of interest and are trying to determine if the couple knows more than they have said.

The Smiths maintain that they've done nothing wrong.

The mother of a missing Arizona 8-month-old is scheduled to appear in court and plead not guilty to charges of kidnapping.

Baby Gabriel has been missing for over a month.

On December 27th she boarded a bus headed to Miami but not before sending a terrifying text to Gabriel's father with whom she was in the middle of a custody battle.

"She said that I stuffed him in a diaper bag and suffocated him, put him in a dumpster. She said, you ruined my life and this is what you deserve," said Gabriel’s father.

Elizabeth Johnson, 23, is the key to finding out what happened the baby, but so far she has been no help.

On Monday Johnson pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and abuse.

Investigators have been trying to walk a fine line between building a case against the mother, while also needing her cooperation.

So far, Johnson is telling detectives little.

For his part, Gabriel's father says he thinks his son is alive, and that Johnson is purposely trying to keep the baby from him by claiming she doesn't know where he is.

Baby Gabriel Mom Pleads Not Guilty in Disappearance; Are Murder Charges on the Horizon?
Mon., Jan. 25 2010 @ 2:15PM
<snipped>
Elizabeth Johnson, the mother of the missing eight-month old baby, Gabriel Johnson, appeared before a Maricopa County Superior Court judge this morning, via-video feed from the Maricopa County Jail and pleaded not guilty to charges relating to the child's disappearance.

Over the weekend, police in San Antonio -- as well as officers from the Tempe Police Department -- searched dumpsters and landfills in Bexar County, Texas, looking for the baby's body. The search turned up nothing.

So, could Johnson get hit with a murder charge if the baby's body is never recovered? Yes, but it would be difficult.

Gabriel Johnson's Father To Search Boy's Path
Logan McQueary Is Retracing Elizabeth Johnson's Route To Texas
POSTED: 10:46 pm MST January 25, 2010
UPDATED: 11:10 pm MST January 25, 2010
<snipped>
Logan McQueary met with Tempe investigators Monday, handing over all text messages and recorded conversations he has had with both his ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Johnson, and persons of interest Tammi and Jack Smith.

He said it was clear to him that police are building a stronger case of conspiracy to commit custodial interference.

At the same time, he is planning a trip along the same route Elizabeth Johnson's GPS would have guided her to San Antonio, Texas. He doesn't think Elizabeth would have tried to make the 15 hour drive in one night, and plans to stop at hotels along the route, searching for anyone who saw her or his missing boy.

In Scottsdale Monday, Tammi Smith revealed that Elizabeth Johnson called her from jail on Friday and tried to lure her into some type of confession.

"Basically, she just started yelling at me. She said, 'You're the one who set this up' and I said 'What?, what are you talking about?' And I was really freaked out by that because I didn't think she would just tell a lie like that," said Tammi Smith.

Both Tammi Smith and Elizabeth Johnson have been caught in lies during the investigation, but it appears Elizabeth is now trying to spread the blame.

"I said then, 'OK, tell me how I did this. How did I do it?' And she couldn't do it," said Smith.

Tammi Smith said Elizabeth Johnson slammed the phone down and hung up when she warned her that she will take the rap for anything that has happened, or will happen to Gabriel.

"If I were her, I would really, really think twice about holding her tongue. I would tell the truth now and God will give grace for that," said Tammi Smith.

Mom of missing Tempe baby pleads not guilty in court

A 23-year-old mother at the center of a national missing baby case pleaded not guilty in court Monday to charges of conspiracy to commit custodial interference and custodial interference.

The hearing came just 24-hours after a large group gathered Sunday to hold a candlelight vigil in support of the family.

About 100 people attended the vigil Sunday evening at Scottsdale Chaparral Park near Hayden and Chaparral Roads.

"I just want to thank everyone, the support is great, I'm very thankful," said Gabriel's father, Logan McQueary.

Meanwhile, Tempe detectives have processed a GPS device that may have been used by Elizabeth.

Investigators say the information from the GPS, including its origin, cannot be released.

Gabriel Johnson was last seen nearly a month ago.

Detectives will not say how many people have been questioned involving the search for the boy, but Jack Smith, who is considered a 'person of interest' in the case told ABC15 a family member outside Arizona has been interviewed.
