O/T sorta
My local farmer’s market has a big functional mushroom tent, many kinds to buy, powdered & dried and spore kits to grow at home.
Extremely knowledgeable man with much information about various health benefits.
Large investments from former NFL players who’ve had helpful results with CTE symptoms
All this to say: No fear of 99.99% of fungi
Yes. Historically mushroom poisonings all appear to come from mushrooms foraged by people mistakenly picking death caps, not from supermarkets or small grocery stores. Not from farmers markets. Not even from unidentified Asian markets.

EP has never claimed to have foraged any mushrooms used in cooking that lunch. The local department of health and/or the department of food safety did not report other mushroom poisonings nor did they release any safety bulletins to the public or issue any recalls of mushrooms in any stores.

Austin hospital determined the relatives fell ill from consuming death cap mushrooms. I believe the doctors.

Everything points to the luncheon. JMO

A friend of mine recently found these mystery mushrooms sold in a specialty store in Campbeltown, South Australia…
Forest mushroom mix. Use by 31 Dec, 26.

@Ellery84 Interesting catch by you & friend who bought the mushrooms at Mercato.*

Re OTHER commercial "forest mix" dried mushrooms,
I googled for images & found many different brands w labels referring to forest mixes. Some** specified the types of mushrooms, like porcini, morels, oyster, etc., but not all did.

Does not answer the Q of what was in the dried mushrooms EP bought at Asian mkt; IF she did buy some anywhere at all and IF the mkt-bought mushrooms actually made it into the beef wellington or any other food she served.

Still in light of these tragic SA deaths, that "forest mixed" description could scare some ppl off. imo

* re pic of THESE dried "Forest Mushroom Mix in OP.
Label in pic says "Mercato;"
OP said Campbelltown SA,
Google says city is an Adeleaide suburb;
Mkt's website shows a narrow selection of food & drink.
Also a bar at mkt location. Founded in 1972, seems a bit upscale-ish, imo, not a fly by night enterprise.
Wensite's tabs for product categories:
PANTRY, OIL & VINEGAR, COFFEE, WINE, SPIRITS, BEER.
i imagine the mkt has more products than listed on website.
Not part of OZ's top ten in size, like Coles, ALDI, Woolworths.

Danger to anyone vs danger to anyone ELSE …

revisiting her statement a month later …
"I lost my parents-in-law, my children lost their grandparents," she said. "And I've been painted as an evil witch," she told the Australian. "And the media is making it impossible for me to live in this town.
The phrase painted as “painted as an evil witch” seems odd and out of place. Like she just can’t say “I’m not responsible for their illness.” Just saying.
It seemed to me, when seeing her make the comments, that she is someone who has frequently been blamed for things which have occurred (possibly in a family environment) which were not her doing, and that has really worn her down over time. ("It's happening AGAIN!!") A "deja vu moment". JMO

(Apologies to Yogi Berra - and not meant to be humourous, as his (similar) quote was.)

Ian Wilkinson has attended a church service after his release from hospital.

Actually the article says he has been welcomed back to the church, but part of the heading says that he has attended church.

From reading the article I didn't read anything that made me think that he did attend.

I saw another article that mentioned that Simon was at the service.

Many showed up to the church on Sunday, including Erin’s estranged husband Simon Patterson, who is the son of Don and Gail.

Simon sat in the front row for the service.

Mr Shaw said Mr Wilkinson’s loved ones had been praying earnestly for both his recovery and “that the truth will come out”.

“That’s the main thing. That the truth will come out, and then we’ll all be able to, in a sense, relax because then there’ll be some closure,” he said.

Their heartache would continue until there was “closure”, he added.

Hallelujah that Pastor Ian has recovered; what a miracle!

I sincerely hope for residents of the township of Leongatha and those on the outskirts also, that they receive the answers and the closure that they desire.

I imagine their path to healing has been incredibly challenging. Wishing them strength and countenance as they continue to heal.

I'll second that! Hallelujah that Pastor Ian has recovered; what a miracle!

"... those who were poisoned would have suffered in agony before, in a cruel twist, they would have felt much better moments before they died.

Forensic toxicologist Dr Michael Robertson told < > that victims of death cap mushroom poisoning typically can suffer from an unbearable illness before starting to feel better.

But the feeling of relief doesn’t last long, as the person’s body shuts down completely a short time later.

Robertson said they will usually begin to feel unwell several hours after consuming the lethal mushrooms – with “violent” vomiting and diarrhoea generally the first signs of poisoning.

[He continues...]"

After a time of "violent" [projectile?] vomiting and the other, perhaps the pattern of feeling better just prior to dying may explain how Gail Patterson was able to text encouraging words.

Thanks for your careful reading of article and for your post on same.

Two different things. May or may not be relevent.

Hoping he has recovered sufficiently to start resuming his normal activities. New normal?

The DM has put out two articles today.

One article is just to say that EP told them to go away.
Mushroom chef Erin Patterson lashes out at media with three frustrated words

The other is to say that a memorial is being planned for Heather Wilkinson (now that Ian is home) on 4th October.
Secret plan for 'death cap' lunch sole survivor to honour wife

I think I saw that clip..On the one hand, I understand her - the journalists are hounding her, hard not to feel pushed to the wall. On the other hand, it is not about her, it is about horrible deaths of her relatives. It impacts her, of course, but she's alive. I think EP said something like, she feels s@@tty or so. And it is not the choice of words, people have the right to use them, just "me, me, me" that's unpleasant.

I think she said she felt “sh%%house”, which is an Australian expression… it’s not the most ladylike of expressions…
I guess with the accusations and innuendo she is currently dealing with, I find using the term sh%%house quite acceptable. Other posts have indicated EP has very little support from others. Her choice of words are really the least of her worries in the bigger picture of things.
