Still Missing Australia - Amber Haigh, 19, still missing, NSW, 5 June 2002 *Arrests*

Yesterdays Australian states the Suzuki Sierra (mentioned in the above article) was originally owned by the couple at the time of Amber's disappearance and police have confirmed they are considering the possibility the vehicle may have been used during the alleged murder.

Amber Haigh cold case: Couple arrested in Harden over 2002 disappearance (theaustralian.com.au)
It's so hard to imagine that police didn't forensically examine the vehicle after hearing those intercepted voice recordings talking about taking 'the rest of her' somewhere. I guess back in 2002, DNA forensics weren't as widely available? But still.. you'd think they would've examined the vehicle, and even kept the evidence tucked away... like has happened in many old cases where evidence was collected, even though the technology wasn't known about at the time, and then was tested decades later. imo.

Reading your linked article helps to understand how Amber ended up with RG (Snr) and his wife.

Amber was RG Jnr's neighbour and girlfriend as teenagers. Then Amber moved away.
RG Jnr's relationship with Amber came to a natural close soon after. But RG (Snr) kept in touch with Amber on the phone.
Next thing, Amber is moving in with RG (Snr) and wife.

Sounds like there could have been a bit of grooming going on there.

To add to that .... the SMH article below says the lure for Amber to go and live there was to become a fruitpicker. (Keeping in mind that RG was an orchard worker.) She was just 17 and it was the first time she had left her family, it was 350km away.
First she lived there with her great-aunt, then somehow moved in with RG and wife.

From the land of fear, loss and dark secrets

Interestingly, Police put him in a paddy wagon, and her in a car .......
imo
I noticed that as well. Also that she seemed to be walking quickly, and (from memory) she appeared to be allowed to walk alongside the officer(s) while having her wrists cuffed together.. not sure if her husband was more 'escorted' to the paddy wagon? Depending on how involved the woman was, ie what her role was... I wonder if it was her that may have provided a tip once the reward became worth it for her, ie enough to get away permanently from him afterwards? Her lawyer apparently also did not request bail, unlike her husband. Also, reportedly in the intercepted recording, he said to her not to 'roll on him' because he didn't want to go to jail... which is different from him saying, don't roll on me because you're just as responsible as me, or whatever. Hmm. imo. Only thing is.. if it was her, I'm imagining she might have also told police where the body was located.. but if the husband had hidden the body himself, she may not know?

The part about the motel is interesting...... and why the Coroner came to the decision on Amber's remains possible resting place....
Interesting podcast - a lot of additional info. It noted (just before the 9 minute mark) the accused couple had had a baby named Emma who died at birth in 2001, and that Amber went on to get pregnant herself afterward, and had her baby Royce, in January 2002. Also a bit later, that the couple had suffered a few miscarriages. Something also about Robert Geeves stealing a bassinette from Amber's apartment, which social workers replaced for her, along with changing her locks. I wonder if Geeves was trying to get Amber to move into the couple's home with the baby, or at least the baby to move in?

If a body is dumped down a 'mine shaft', would there be any hope of recovering the body?

Yes, that was interesting. Thanks.

Sounds like a planned murder and disposal. Lots of old unused mineshafts in the Tahmoor region.

I wonder how anyone knows exactly when Amber went missing. There is no CCTV of Amber. There is only an ATM withdrawal from Amber’s account on 5th June near Campbelltown station.

Maybe she spoke with family right before or on the 5th.

3rd June – RG & AG stayed at Tahmoor Motor Inn, 20 or 30 km south of Campbelltown (3 hours from their house, no known reason for them staying there)

5th June - Amber went missing (or ‘got dropped at Campbelltown train station’)

8th June/3 days after Amber disappeared – RG & AG back at Tahmoor Inn

9th June – they bought nails and a hammer from hardware shop in Moss Vale (2½ hrs from their home, same direction as Campbelltown)

A week after Amber went missing they reported it to police– maybe around 12th June.

(The part about RG & AG's movements prior to and after Amber's disappearance starts at about the 19:44 min mark in the podcast episode.)

An article today said they have been split up for quite a while. She may be in the mode to save herself now. Confession time.

AMG's lawyer, Clive Hill, did not apply for bail today but said it would be sought due to her serious medical ailments, which involved a kidney transplant and a triple bypass.

The court heard the couple had not been in a relationship for more than eight years but maintained a friendship.

Interesting. But, she was at the house with him when they were arrested.

I had understood it was two weeks after the time the couple said they dropped Amber at the station. (Train station only kept video for 7 days, so the couple made sure it was too late to get video from both the train station and the bank machine. imo.
Police reapplied the heat after Mr Geeves and wife Anne contacted police on June 19, 2002, to report that Amber Haigh - another of his live-in lovers - had vanished in the night.

Like you said South Aussie - points to maybe missing a lot earlier - more likely to have died closer to this date - early June than when they reported her missing 19th June.

Interesting. But, she was at the house with him when they were arrested.
Yes I wondered about her being at the property with him too ....

The Geeves appeared separately with Ms Geeves, who separated from Robert Geeves eight years ago, not applying for release.

Her matter was adjourned to May 17 at which time her solicitor Clive Hill suggested an application for release may occur.
, not applying for release.

This article details a little more about the covert recordings.......

"There has been nothing served on the accused, only a 16 or 17 page statement by a police officer naming a number of police witnesses, I think there are 20 in total," Ms Langfield said.

"Conversations where he is asking the co-accused not to roll on him and saying he doesn't want to go to jail.," Ms Kiely said.
In one recorded conversation Ms Kiely said the co-accused has said: "where are we going to take the rest of her now?".
Ms Kiely said Geeves had replied: "somewhere close to here".

There are other recorded conversations in which Ms Kiely said the co-accused had asked Geeves: "have you taken her yet, have you taken her yet?" to which he is alleged to have replied "no I haven't".

She said there was also a conversation which alleged the co-accused said: "just want to give her to the pigs out the back", to which Mr Geeves is alleged to have replied "yes".

"In terms of it being a circumstantial case, it's a very strong circumstantial case," Ms Kiely said.
