The police didn't release his name that night, it was only known from town gossip. They can not release it from gossip. But the time it was confirmed it was suppresses

You could say the same thing about the other guy whom said he dropped him off.

Yeah, its been a week or more, if the DNA didnt match they would have let him go i reckon.

Why hold somone who doesn't match the DNA found at the scene?

Didn't 'unknown' mean that it didnt match anyone known on the national database?

Midsommer - might be an article here?
http://www.crimecasefiles.com/forum/australian-crime-news/22843-three-bodies-found-at-kapunda-4.html

This article from the local paper, answers the question:

The foreign DNA found at the scene had no matches with the national database and police can only confirm it is from a male.

You may have to subscribe to read it but its easy to do and free:

Even if they didn't know his name they would have maybe printed something like "boy yells out in crowed he gave murderer a lift to the victims house" ???? would have sold many papers that headline, but there was nothing what so ever, the media are vultures so I highly doubt it is a plausible scenario. It is only my opinion nothing more

I'd like to know what kind of DNA they took from whatever they removed from the shrine....what could he have left? ...Paper? (a note)....flowers??...a teddy bear??...And wouldn't it have been contaminated by everything else left there?

Thoughts??

I believe it is fairly common for police to remove tributes from a shrine when they are still looking for evidence.

REF: http://www.abc.net.au/news/video/2010/11/15/3067130.htm?site=riverland

This video says police have removed tributes.

Very interesting - thanks for those links.

Here is an interesting artcle about obsessive love that I found:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsessive_love

It makes interesting reading, but I'm not sure it fits this person.
I only have the FB posts to go on, before they were removed or closed, but in my opinion his posts to CR never seemed obsessive and were not especially frequent, compared to other friends.

I don't think obsessive love fits him either, he was not stalking her to that extent, I do however think he felt humiliated and enraged by rejection from her and a realization that they would never be together which led to the crime.

Agreed. Can't see a detective telling someone when there has been so much controversy over the suppression order.

I also agree, I know a few detectives and they are quite tight lipped.

I also used to work as an undertaker and also worked for The Melbourne Coroner we were also required to be tight lipped.

we have seen the video of the accused placing flowers at the shrine (this has been verified that it was flowers by many friends on fb straight after the arrest), i find it very strange that on the video he is the only one there, then straight after the police collect all the tributes at the shrine because they only had dna and needed the missing piece (Finger prints and what better way to get them was the tributes and cards that people had touched and even left cards with their names on them - some smart people are very dumb - and they collected all the tributes so as not to arouse suspicion by the accused - SAPOL are very smart indeed - and remember at the same time that this investion is going on - there was another murder at waterloo corner - and SAPOL got both the perps by matching DNA to the national database

well i know a few of the major crime squad and a few years back i was privy to them telling me about a certain judge they were after for being a paedophile - so yes the do talk to close friends - especially with a bit of brown ale to lossen the lips

I made that point earlier today :)

People who do these jobs are professionals, granted they see some very morbid stuff and yes even the most hardened person will be effected by certain stuff. Thus is the reason they have counselors. So they can vent and get everything out without talking to non police people. That would be such a breach to tell someone them kind of details about this case, At minimum he would be severely rep-remanded or even possibly lose his job!

Tutt tutt !!!...ahhh the old truth serum...lol I guess most of us would be guilty of that one.

I am currently visiting NSW and there are no suppression orders in place! There are newspaper articles naming the accused, witness accounts, interviews with the people of the town, details of the crime, evidence etc all in these papers and on TVOver the past 2 weeks.

Agreed, I myself am guilty of sharing a story or two....But not names or locations and especially not high profile cases.

well i know that one of the guys i know from the major crime came to me and said that the last thing he would do is get the judge and then resign because the case had destroyed his marriage, he did not get any help from sapol- they is no budgeted funds for those type of luxuries, after the judge was given life, my friend had a breakdown nad told me the all he felt was na emptiness - this is what our great servants have to put up with - they are a great bunch of men and women

Ah but there was a vague mention in the media about the ute? parked out front playing a part in the arrest. It was discussed here somewhere. Perhaps that was who dropped him off at Chantelles that night?

I agree with you to the extent that if he is guilty, then this seems to be the only reasonable motive. But as you are no doubt aware, I am doubting whether the police have arrested the right person.

My doubts are mainly due to the strangeness of the continuing suppression order and his claim of an alibi.

Yes you are right!

but we were talking about a particular convo a bit earlier

Honestly mate that is so far from wrong it's not funny!! That should come somewhere under the safe work act! I am sorry your friend had to endure such a thing while trying to protect people!!

But surely if his alibi was tight he would be released by now? they have had him for over a week, plenty of time to check it.

Has anyone seen any angry posts on websites? I have seen a few from both sides some pretty personal. I'm wondering if the strong police presense in kapunda is to keep an eye on some people. Can you imagine what emotional, angry young people might get up to after a few drinks?
Someone mentioned that there ia a gang of kids who will go bash ppl for no reason. I wonder if the suppression was an attempt to quell rumors and retaliation?
