Debate erupted in court after the lawyer representing a woman accused of murdering her parents using her own insulin made a big request.

Debate erupted in court today after the lawyer representing a woman accused of murdering her elderly parents asked for a four-week delay in the case, arguing she needed more time to properly fulfil her “duty” to her client.

Raelene Polymiadis, accused of killing her parents Brenda and Lynton Anderson with insulin, was due to enter her pleas to the allegations at Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

But her lawyer, Rachael Shaw, asked Magistrate Lynette Duncan for another four weeks to go through the “incredibly large brief” from the prosecution.

Ms Duncan granted the defence a four-week adjournment.

Raelene Polymiadis, 63, stood in the dock at South Australian Supreme Court on Monday and quietly pleaded not guilty to the murder of her 94-year-old parents Brenda and Lynton Anderson.

A lawyer for a woman accused of murdering her parents with insulin has told a court there was “nothing similar” about the two deaths.

The case will now go to trial at the Supreme Court, and Marie Shaw KC, speaking for Ms Polymiadis, asked Justice Julie McIntyre to set a directions hearing in two weeks.

“We are awaiting some further disclosure from the prosecution,” she said.

Ms Shaw also stated that her client might apply for separate trials.
