That's lovely. Usually, it's often just a painted marker with artificial flowers and a teddy bear... Not that there's anything wrong with that, often there isn't space or a safe area to make a memorial. This is a proper cultivated garden with borders and real plants. Someone or someones are taking the time to use the space made available for something beautiful.

It is well done. There is a watering can left for anyone to water too.

Statement regarding Hunter Valley Bus Crash.
Last night, I delivered a statement to NSW Parliament on behalf of Leanne Mullen, the mother of Rebecca Mullen, who tragically lost her life in the Hunter Valley Bus Crash.
The decision by the DPP to accept a guilty plea means that charges have been downgraded from manslaughter. It is a disappointing decision. It has greatly impacted those who have waited for justice and upset many people in the community. As a result, I have used Question Time this week to ask the Attorney General about the decision. The DPP are independent, but they can not be above criticism. Their actions need to reflect the community's sense of fair justice.
I believe that this statement reflects community sentiment.
The victim survivors, the victims' families, and the community-at-large, are still grappling with the tragic consequences of that night. I hope that I speak for the whole community when I say that they have our unconditional love and support. We understand their grief will be enduring. We may not know what to say or do, but we will be there for them if they need us.
Stay strong, and please continue to support one another.
Dave

Thinking of all the family, friends & all the first responders

The brother of Rebecca Mullen, one of the victims, spoke directly at Button while delivering a victim impact statement.

"You changed my life forever... here I am talking to you and you can't even look me in the the face. You're a coward," Lachlan Mullen said.

"Every time you pop another pill, please think 'I'm a terrible person' as you swallow.

The judge presiding over the sentencing hearing said on Monday the proceedings were "unprecedented" in scale.

Up to 60 people are expected to give victim impact statements in the Newcastle District Court over three days, which Judge Roy Ellis said would be highly emotional.

"Never before have so many people been killed and injured in a single motor vehicle incident," he said.

"There will be times where people become emotional… and need to be comforted.

Bus driver Brett Button has been sentenced to more than two decades in prison for the fatal crash that claimed 10 lives and injured 25 people following an idyllic wedding in the NSW Hunter Valley last year.

On Wednesday afternoon, Judge Roy Ellis said Button would serve 32 years in prison, 24 years of those without parole, for the “case of such extraordinary devastation”.

He will die in jail.
That's fair. Because of his recklessness and failure of duty of care, ten people never get to do anything ever again. They were doing the right thing, taking the bus after the reception rather than driving themselves. His job was to get them home safe, and he didn't just fail, he caused that by deliberately driving dangerously.
