There was the murder of Josh Werneke in Broome, for which an innocent man was jailed. And the accused may have visited Broome at some point due to family.

Josh was always happy and hardworking and friends with everybody. He had gone out for a meal with my son that night. According to some of Josh's Aboriginal friends, Broome had started to fill up with people brought in from the outlying communities for the protests that were being organised for the Woodside Gas Plant agreement which was probably why Gene Gibson was in town.

The perpetrator takes a huge risk driving the vehicle.

I would say now they do but in the 1980s and 1990s there wasn't the License plate recognition software there is now at airports, shopping centres and with speed cameras. DNA probably wasn't considered such a big risk as it is now.

1997 – Sun - 21? May - Romuald Zac – 24 - Romauld was referred to as Ronald (RZ) and was admitted to Graylands Mental Hospital (GMH) Claremont on 13 April 1997. It was reported that RZ worked with CG and also knew JR. 24 May 1997 RZ found dead under a tree outside GMH. Reported as suicide, however speculation of rape and murder. perthnow

1997 – Tue - 14 Oct - Gerard Ross – aged 11 - 9.30am snatched from near 99 Kent St, Rockingham. Body located at Baldivis pine plantation (fully clothed). A few weeks prior, another 11-year-old young boy was offered a lift, whilst waiting at a Kent Street bus stop near the Rockingham public library. He drove a beige or cream coloured sedan. When the 11-year old boy declined the man drove away – vague description only. Full story - including brief mention of other's being offered a lift in Rockingham Brett Peter Cowan the murderer of Daniel Morcombe (aged 13) was in custody QLD when GR was abducted watoday

1997 - 17 Dec - William Maddison French – 24 - William was from Perth and referred to as Maddison - last seen 11 Dec. On 17 Dec he phoned girlfriend from Carnarvon WA – stating intentions of travelling around Australia. MAM

2000 – Thu - 17 Feb - Jason Grill – 30 - Jason went missing from the Subiaco area. MPR

2003 – Thu - 11 Dec - Jason Marcus Lawson – 32 - Last seen 11 Dec 2003 in Baldivis WA MPR

2007 – Tue - 6 Nov - Noel James Acton - Last seen 4.30pm in Martin. His vehicle was located at home address in Gosnells. All personal belonging at home, apart from wallet. MPR

2008 – Fri - 8 Feb - Kenneth Gibbs – aged 76 - Kenneth was last seen Avonmore Tce, Cottesloe MPR

2013 – Sat - 11 May - Andrew Watson - Andrew was last seen about 1am at the Rocket Room Nightclub Northbridge. His silver Honda CR-V was located in the car park of Scarborough Dog Beach (17 May 2013) MPR

It was in the 90’s and from memory it was near where Berrigan meets Karel av. Sorry I can be more specific as it was a long time ago. I do remmember an old abandoned mansion on the corner of the road? The police regularly ‘busted’ the meets with full force and helicopters etc, so I’m not sure if there would be record somewhere?

Think it was Hope road / Training place, pre Roe hwy it looked a lot different. I think there was another one out the back of Canning Vale that was more towards the eastern side of Jandakot Airport. I think that was called Hope road aswell.

This brings us back to the sobering thought that there are more ways to kill a person than the classic murder. From the hot shot to induced despair by online bullying.

Our remit is those missing or murdered that could possibly be connected to the CSK. Though I do think a broader general list helps give a context to how safe WA really is and how stretched the police must be before you even look at competency.

Thanks for the information. With regard to the Canning Vale street drags, could that perhaps have been in Bannister Rd Canning Vale. The western end which is nearer the Jandakot airport? About ten years ago, I worked in Bannister Road when WAPOL knocked on doors of the businesses. Something had been found in the vicinity and they were making inquiries. We gathered it was something belonging to one of the girls, but they provided little information. I don't have any links regarding that information.

Papertrail do you know of newspaper article printed not long after GC went missing talking about a blonde man had offered another girl a lift from the Conti the night before and was seen by this woman on cctv talking to Jane inside the Conti the night she went missing?

I thought I'd read it on one of the links going back to around Feb 2016, but can't find it.

Janwa is your son aware if this vehicle or the bundy number plate was published at the time the murder happened.

Something with a novelty plate like bundy was should have been noticed in a small place like Broome if the information was published IMO.

I know the spot you are referring to but it's not the one I was thinking. It was more out Nicholson/Warton road way, not far from the prison. Looking at a map Acourt road could be it. It was very long and straight and full of junk dumped on the side of the road but as a 17yo it was a well known place to do burnouts and drag.

Although Josh worked off and on for my son they were working on the same resort but Josh was working for a different contractor. My son picked him up to go out but he didn't want to leave at the same time. Wracked by his feelings of guilt for leaving him and grief from what happened we don't talk about it.

Off the top of my head - but this is reported in MSM - he confessed, but under duress. He was not provided with an interpreter despite English not being his first language. He also has Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) - which not only causes cognitive impairment but also a tendency to confabulate and a high degree of susceptibility. People with FASD often are involved with the law because they are easily led astray by others, and often confess to committing crimes of which they are innocent. Josh's Mum was very proactive in supporting Gene's appeal and was reported as believing he was innocent.
