Investigators still going over the scene where E was found is this morning. I'm so glad an arrest had been made in this case. It could have ended in the worst way, I think.

ETA, time on that tweet is mine, not his.

When I saw she was found I assumed they recovered her from a drop she fell into or smth similar. Very terrifying that she was abducted.

E has been discharged from hospital.

Random search stops Peugeot
The young woman was found by a random patrol by local police on the strength of what authorities described as a “fortuitous” piece of information.

The metallic Peugeot was stopped and searched by police at around 5pm Thursday on a suburban road some 13 kilometers from the bush land were the massive search and rescue operation had been conducted since Wednesday afternoon.

BBM - fortuitous
fɔːˈtjuːɪtəs/
adjective
happening by chance rather than intention.

As I thought, and first heard. The vehicle was found by chance. Not by a specific tip from the public.

Ugh. Having just re-read about Anita Cobby (required reading for a uni subject I'm doing), I am so, so, glad that E was found when she was.

For any non-Australians reading, I wouldn't advise looking up Anita's case just before bedtime. You will have nightmares. And if you are Australian and don't know the full details, well, the same goes for you too.

BREAKING NEWS: Man, 38, charged with abduction and rape of Bendigo student, 18, who disappeared while jogging in remote bushland and was found alone in a car 15km away

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ng-missing-Bendigo-jogger-police-tip-off.html

A 38-year-old man has been charged with abduction and rape in relation to the disappearance of a university student who was found alive in a car on Thursday evening - more than 24 hours after she vanished while jogging.

Police allege the 18-year-old was assaulted during the period she was missing and was also held captive, according to the ABC.

The man, from Bendigo, has been in questioning with police since Thursday night after the teenager was found unconscious in a car in Maiden Gully - 15km from where she was last seen at One Tree Hill Regional.

Are the charges against Reimers going to be kept secrect even during the trial? How will that work?

It is understood the young woman at the centre of the investigation set off on her jog at around 3pm on Wednesday and reached the top of One Tree Hill by 3.30pm, where she sent a Snapchat to a friend.

She continued running and sent text messages at 4.30pm, which was the last time anyone heard from her until she was found more than 24 hours later in Maiden Gully - 17km away from where she was last seen.

Members of the public provided information to police that prompted them to stop a car when they came across it on patrol. One person said they had seen the car following the 18-year-old as she was jogging, while another reported hearing screams.

Police said it was sheer luck that patrolling police spotted the car they suspected the alleged attacker had been travelling in, and found his alleged victim inside the car alive.

Gosh the poor girl. How horrific. I read that it was her regular run. I wonder if he has been watching her for some time?

A 38-year-old man has faced court over the disappearance of a teenage girl in Bendigo after she set out for an afternoon jog on Wednesday.

This afternoon, the Magistrate issued an order keeping details of the accused's alleged crimes supressed from the public.

Detectives told 9NEWS when police approached the car, the young woman was visibly upset inside the car and ran out of the car towards the officers.

The accused was nearby and did not resist arrest.

Detectives said the accused was unknown to the alleged victim and it was a random incident.

This morning police returned to the scene to scour nearby bushes

Police seized a piece of evidence but would not reveal what they found.

Police also searched a property at Kingower, 50km north-west of Bendigo.

The man was charged at around 3pm today after spending the morning being questioned by police.

What an amaaazing stroke of luck...if LE could only be this lucky in other abduction cases!

(O/T, this reminds me of a Forensic Files episode I saw...an alert police officer happened to be walking by a shop when he saw a sales flyer in the window...the typing/font was similar to a ransom note he had seen. The perp was caught because of this alert police officer.)

Thank goodness this perp is in custody...was he going to let her go, or kill her? And how many other times has he done something like this? Any other unsolved sexual assaults/abductions in the area?

(Btw, it sure is a pleasure to talk with you folks all the way over in Australia!)
