Father of three children killed in house fire at Lalor Park may have been on drugs, police say

Police are alleging the father of the three deceased children, a 28-year-old man who legally cannot be named, locked the doors of the home and deliberately lit the fire.

Before Blacktown Court today, Police Prosecutor Sergeant Mohit Kumar submitted an application to test a hair follicle that was collected from the man when he was being transferred into police custody.

Police submitted a sworn affidavit from an officer as part of their application to the court.

"Police consider it is likely he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time [of the fire] and seek samples," Magistrate Brian van Zuylen said, reading from the police officer's sworn affidavit.

The court heard a photograph containing an ice pipe, paraphernalia used to smoke crystal methamphetamine, was also attached to their application.
