QLD Police are still appealing to try to identify the man located at Gympie. “We are calling on anyone who a family member or friend they haven’t heard from in a while or who may not have checked in for Christmas, to come forward." The man was between 25-50, between 180cm and 190cm tall, large/solid build and had two small circular scars on his right upper arm and one on his left upper arm (all possibly vaccination marks). His torso had a 3cm scar on the right side of the back (from a previous injury or surgical procedure). He was wearing a size 2XL shirt. It has also been established the man had the medications Quinine (commonly used to treat cramp, restless leg syndrome and malaria) and Irbesartan (possibly a prescription medication such as Avapro) in his system. Irbesartan is used to treat high blood pressure or hypertension.

Headless body: Police release video to help identify victim

Police have released a short video graphic in their bid to identify a man whose charred torso was found on the side of a road north of Brisbane.

It makes me think that they've dumped a less easy to identify part so that the message is loud and clear to those 'in the know' that he's dead, but disposed of the parts that would identify him so that they'd be less likely to get caught? It feels like drugs or OMC to me too...

These were my exact thoughts. They have meted out some rough justice for whatever reason and left the torso. I should imagine arms have gone so no fingerprints and no head so he can't be identified but it is sending a message out to others not mess with them or it will happen to you. I wonder where they have hidden the rest of his body. Too gruesome to think of. But they are so ruthless they may keep the head for a trophy.

I think law abiding people don't have to worry just the crims in the area do. JMOO

POLICE hope a video package of clues will help save one of the nation’s most gruesome murders.

Forensic tests have revealed more about the man whose dismembered, decapitated body was dumped and set alight beside Cedar Pocket Rd near Gympie on September 19 last year.

Below is the local Gympie newspaper's version of the update Marlywings posted above. The same police video is included, but I think this one could be a little longer - it lists all the medications found in the victim's system at the time of his death (or did I miss it in the previous video??)
I don't know that the updates contain any new information, but I think the video is pretty detailed and a good clear summary of all the police know (or are willing to share) at this point. Someone out there must know or recognise something!

Police say Tin Can Bay skull may be linked to torso find

Police say a human skull found at Tin Can Bay, south of Bundaberg in southern Queensland's Wide Bay region, may belong to a man who was murdered last year.

Detective Inspector Bruce McNab says the skull, found by workers last week in the Toolara State Forest, could belong to a man whose burnt torso was found near Gympie in September

He said information on whether damage to the skull was sustained before or after the victim's death was yet to be revealed but that exposure to wildlife and the elements could have caused the damage.

Police have not ruled out an impact being sustained prior to death, though.

Det Insp McNab also said a digital reconstruction of the skull's face to be undertaken by police could provide a familiar face for someone to report missing.

Meanwhile, he urged people to think hard about whether anyone they knew, a large-framed male 180-188cm tall and aged between 40 and 80 years old, had not been seen for a while.

BONES have been uncovered by police in the Toolara State Forest as search crews hunt for more evidence linked to a skull found there two weeks ago.

Police are yet to confirm whether the bones are human, or what type of bones they are, but acting Inspector David Briese said a number of smaller bones - in addition to the skull - had been found in the forestry crime scene.

Digital remodelling of the skull is also expected to be undertaken by police in a bid to identify the victim.

In the meantime police are asking everyone to think of any males between the ages of 40 and 80 they have not seen since last September.

Detective Inspector Bruce McNab confirmed there had been "items of interest" located in the forestry since a second search of the crime scene began early this week.

He did not confirm what those items were or whether they had any link to the skull, but said numerous items had been collected from the area.

A walk-through search of forestry surrounding the area had taken place when the skull was found on April 10. A second walk-through search began early this week and Det Insp McNab said search crews were now into a hands and knees search of the ground in order to go through the area with a "fine tooth comb".

He said around three square kilometres of forestry around the skull's location had been covered by volunteer SES workers and police.

I feel they are well on the way to finding out who this victim is at the very least. Hopefully the killer's days are numbered.
 
A BURNING torso, a bronze-coloured car and a blonde woman in exercise pants – it’s the grisly murder mystery that has police stumped.

Now detectives are waiting on DNA tests that will determine whether a human head found 45km from the torso are from the same person.

It was a seemingly meticulously planned execution – right up until the last minute.

This article contains a few snippets of interest - it seems like there were multiple sightings of the mystery woman seen over a period of an hour or so in the area where the torso was found. I really hope the other remains found recently are found to be a match and can identify the victim.
 
Update: Operation Lima Sea

Police overseeing Operation Lima Sea, the investigation into the location of a human torso on Cedar Pocket Road, Cedar Pocket in September, 2013 today confirmed other human remains found in the area in April are not related to the torso.

Detective Inspector Bruce McNab said the remains discovered in a pine tree plantation off Cooloola Road, Tin Can Bay on April 11 had been tested and confirmed as to not share the same identity as the torso.

“Investigations into the discovery of both sets of human remains are continuing and we continue to appeal to anyone who has any information on either of these incidents to come forward.”

Police are now looking at two investigations to identify the charred torso found in September and the skull located in a pine plantation last month.

Detectives are also searching the prescription records of 1100 Queensland pharmacies that may have sold medication to the unidentified decapitation victim.

The torso – believed to be that of a male aged 40 to 80 – had taken the over-the-counter drug quinine and also the prescription medication *Irbesartan. The names of 3000 quinine customers have been sourced from chemists and will be matched against the names of those prescribed Irbesartan – a hypertensive medication.

Detective Inspector McNab said the Irbesartan scripts were yet to be fully compiled.

“We’re also still going through missing persons *reports as they are updated and any information we receive from the public,” he said.

Police hopeful drug in burnt torso dumped in Gympie could solve murder

DETECTIVES are confident of a breakthrough in one of the nation’s most gruesome murder mysteries as they review people on the same medication as the victim.

A man whose decapitated, burnt torso was found on the side of a road near Gympie on September 19 last year had been taking the hypertension drug Irbesartan, as well as Quinine.

Detective Inspector Bruce McNab told The Courier-Mail that police had obtained a “not so big’’ list of patients known to have been taking similar medication.

He said officers were conducting doorknocks of those individuals.

“We are working our way through the Queenslanders first. A breakthrough could come from the next door we knock on,’’ Det Insp McNab said.

POLICE have found the remains of missing Gold Coast man Shaun Barker.

Mr Barker was reported missing by his family on January 14 after last being seen at a service station at Broadbeach on December 10, 2013.

A skull was found by forestry workers off Cooloola Coast Road which has been forensically examined and identified as that of Mr Barker.

They found other remains 95m from the skull in a shallow pit. The torso at Cedar Pocket was found in September 2013, and Shaun Barker's last confirmed sighting was in December 2013.
 
It seems like police have narrowed down the description of the car connected with the murder:

POLICE say they have identified the type of vehicle involved in the disposal of the Cedar Pocket headless torso.
They also released a description of a woman "known to be driving this vehicle".
The vehicle was seen at the side of Cedar Pocket Rd during the period when the torso was dumped nearby and set alight, police say.
Acting Inspector Nikki Colfs yesterday said the vehicle is a 2011 orange Nissan Micra hatchback.

Investigators believe a small orange, gold or bronze Nissan Micra hatchback was seen in the area prior to the discovery of the remains in Cedar Pocket, about 17 kilometres east of Gympie.
The car was seen by witnesses near the Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach areas on September 19 last year before the body was found at 6.27pm that evening.
