If you look closely, at 1.52 (YouTube timer) or 1:42:27 (CCTV timer) you can clearly see his hand reach up to her hair or shoulder (look through the spiral clothes rack, and between the far right mannequin and the right hand wall of the shop front). She sems to brush her hair back and recoil slightly and then start to walk away. She does not appear comfortable in this man's presence.
I think it's very unlikely. Brunswick/hipster folk you will probably understand this better:
blue hoody and loose jeans? no way. The first guy who walks past, beard and skinny jeans, you can imagine her knowing him. But a guy in a hoody is NOT a hipster type. You don't see people in hoodies at places like bar Etiquette. In fact I would be surprised if he was even out at bar that night, dressed that way.
His clothes pretty, well, bogan. Possibly junkie. I know how judgemental that sounds, and I'm not saying Jill doesn't know any bogans or that only bogans dress that way, but on the balance of probability, yeah, probably a guy who does hang out on the street a bit, unlikely to be let into hip bars.
This is the best I can do so far in terms of stills of the CCTV
having seen the front-on photo from TM's facebook, I have to say I think there's basically zero chance she knows him.
He has a scraggly ponytail and seriously looks like a junkie/doner
(methadone)
Although if it was him, then I wouldn't expect him to be a junkie as they tend to be spaced out and easy to fight off (speaking as a one-time attempted mug-ee)
Unless he tried to mug her, it went wrong and he killed her by accident - maybe she hit her head on the kerb - and then he came back to get rid of body?
or maybe it wasn't him but he's not coming forward because he has some drug and theft charges
OR... he's not a junkie at all it looks like there's a facial scab (which is typical of junkies) but that might just be an artefact int he footage
If you look at that video clip above, in full screen mode, and move the slider ALMOST to the end, so you can see Jill standing fiddling with her phone - just have a very close look at that triangular gap on the left (our left) where a bit of window is just visible, just to the left of the white light switch.
When Jill walks off, it looks like she stops again, with just the back of a leg showing in that little bit of window. Maybe that's where she's talking on the phone, and perhaps standing still? Or perhaps just delaying walking any further until Blue Hoodie has moved on further?
Or is that just my imagination?
Here's something really interesting - if you watch the clock on the cctv footage - 5 seconds is cut out. From 1:42:47 to 1:42:52. And these are the last 5 seconds that blue hoodie is in shot. What happened in those those 5 seconds? And why have they been removed? There are no other time lapses in the footage from what I can see

Just an observation: hoodies, possibly grey track pants with stripe down the side (Addidas?) and white shoes are signatures of one of the 18-22 year old groups at present. Can't quite see the hair style. If short, shaven with a little mowhawk, then this fits 'street cred' with that age group. Makara maybe you can help with a screen cap?Demographics wise, I don't think the guy in the striped pants is there for the hispter scene, much more likely to be from one of the other sub-cultures in the area (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brunswick,_Victoria#Culture) ... of which striped pants are a stereotype even.
You have good eyes!
But I think you are referring here to to pic of the unrelated case on TM's facebook?
JMO
I've noticed there hasn't been any finger pointing at Jills husband on here since the CCTV footage was released.....
This is a very good point, he may not be the perp at all. This could certainly fit the footage. He may have walked past something going on originally, then decided that he should head back to make sure Jill was ok. She does wait for a while before continuing on, it's entirely possible that he had left by that stage, considering that was the direction he was originally headed.

My interpretation: from his body language, he is definitely persuing her. From her body language, she is aware of the unwanted pursuit and feels unsafe. Tries to distract, stops, stalls for time, lags behind - but it is not working. He lingers. It appears that she cannot shake him off - he is not getting the hints. She looks behind possibly for someone to help, but no one is there. She seems reluctant. He is aware of too much traffic on Sydney Rd, didn't want to cause her to scream to attract attention. So he probably waited for his prey to turn into quieter Hope St where she has been attacked and possibly abducted. Just speculating on a possibility. My opinion only.
excellent observation. i was writing a description of their movement and he appears to disappear where his face was apparent in the video. what happened in those 5 seconds???
In this ABC news link
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-09-26/police-release-cctv-images-of-missing-woman/4281096
at 1.10 they are both in view together at the right of the screen (between the 2 dress models) and at 1.23-1.29 you can see still see his face at the far right of the screen. Would these images be enough for police to build a physical profile of him - i.e. height compared to her known height and colour of hair etc?
