I appreciate that some men are proactive against sexism (and very thankful that I married one of them). I go to the gym 4-6 times a week and I've noticed that men have become a little more respectful over the past 10 years or so. There are still plenty of creeps, of course, and generally society leans towards being anti-woman, but the more men who speak out about sexism so that it becomes unacceptable, the better.

Hang on a second. OMG these are a different species!

Most men would never think of raping a woman! What I can't understand is how 1% would abduct a woman and rape her and then discard her and walk away without a thought. Are there any body enhancing drugs that would make a normal man cross over and commit these acts? I understand there could be other reasons like worms in the brain. Friendly flirting and banter can be harmless in the right place and at the right time without fearing for our very lives! These types of people aren't like us. Speaking of how some men think....a bloke once said to me 'some women ask for it because they don't go to the police'. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I asked him if he was walking through a park and was raped by another man, how would you feel? Would you be humiliated enough not to go to the police? I bet he would be too embarrassed to even tell a mate! He realised what I was saying and actually understood and agreed. I rested my case.

Absolutely...and it can creep into conversations and attitudes without people realizing it...it be as subtle as the conspiratorial look between a group of men when an attractive girl walks past thereby objectifying the woman...I know...I have done it myself in the past...Im not suggesting that an admiring glance or flirting be banned...Im talking about the aggressive nature of the conversations...I have also borne witness to "men" discussing intimate details of their sex lives with other blokes...and I knock that on the head as well...I enjoy the fact that none of them have the balls to say..."I will treat women anyway I like...anyway...what are you going to do about it"...because I will call them on their bullying behavior.
I simply refuse to tolerate it.
Heres the rule...dont talk to any woman in a manner that you wouldnt address your mother, sister or daughter.
I havent always been an angel but Im trying to make amends now...I was never over the top...just boofhead banter now and then when I was young.
We have to clean up our own backyard before telling anyone else how to behave.

Some 'creepy' stuff happening with your male friends there Paul. :blushing:

http://www.theaustralian.com.au Jill Meagher's accused killer returns to prison. THE accused killer of Jill Meagher, Adrian Bayley, cut himself after being told by his girlfriend she no longer wanted to see him, it has emerged. It is believed Mr Bayley had been trying to convince his girlfriend to stand by him as he faces murder and rape charges. He had been held in his cell 22 hours a day with only a television and books to keep him occupied. Staff found him unconscious in his cell during morning muster.

AB has family. Not necessarily in Victoria. They may have read the article which IMO constitutes MSM (although not by the definition of this forum). They may have spoken to him by prison telephone after reading the article and this may have been bad for his morale.
He may have experienced insight by default finally

Jill Meagher's accused killer returns to prison after receiving treatment for self-harm in St Vincent's Hospital

THE accused killer of Jill Meagher, Adrian Bayley, cut himself after being told by his girlfriend she no longer wanted to see him, it has emerged.
Mr Bayley, who has been remanded in a protection unit of the Melbourne Assessment Prison in Spencer St, had been lying prone overnight after he cut his wrist, elbow and ankle.

Staff found him unconscious in his cell during morning muster.

If AB is being held in a protection unit as reported, where did he find a sharp enough instrument to cut his wrist, elbow and ankle? Why waste time on cutting three parts of the body? He could have kept going on his wrist, it would have been quicker! :what: Seriously though, I'm pleased that he's all stitched up and back in jail. Suicide is the coward's way out. Justice needs to be served for Jill Meagher's rape and murder and that will only happen when this is sentenced to life in jail, never to be released. I'm sure his fellow inmates are now aware of his modus operandi and will follow suit.

Mr Bayley is still in limbo over his legal representation and this may have further affected his state of mind.

The 41-year-old Coburg man was visited by a private lawyer after his arrest, but Legal Aid Victoria so far has opted to handle his case in-house.

Funding for his defence is still to be finalised.

It is not known whether any of his four children has visited him since his arrest.

This is so heartbreakingly sad for his children. It's a pity that he didn't think of the impact his deeds would have on them and other family members. As someone mentioned earlier, he is still somebody's son and father. IMO he lost any right to that privilege when he chose to rape and murder.

MOO.

Welcome to the zoo -

......Meanwhile, Corrections Victoria staff have been warned not to make unauthorised checks of internal data on Mr Bayley.

The Herald Sun understands there has been concern about staff looking up Mr Bayley's details when it was not necessary.

It is unclear how the checks came to light, but CV has systems designed to ensure prisoner information is examined within professional requirements.

A spokesman said Corrections Victoria did not discuss specific prisoners.

While we're cleaning up backyards, how about parents of girls teaching them how not to behave like foul mouthed little scrubbers. I have heard some of the worst conversations between women discussing their sex lives and the worst swearing on peak hour trains from young women in school uniform. They make most of the boys sound like a group of nuns. Even in shopping centres and fast food restaurants, some of the conversations consist of 50% the F word, not to mention the phone calls with their besties. And don't get me started on FB and twitter, wall posts with language that most sailors wouldn't use.
Not saying the boys don't swear but it's difficult to train your sons to show proper respect to ladies when a lot of the time there are no ladies within coo-ee.:moo:

I think all parents should be teaching their children to show respect and/or regard for all people regardless of who they are and how they behave not just Females who "behave as Ladies". Creating a distinction between "Ladies" & "Non-Ladies" and having difficulty in teaching our Son's to treat the Non-Ladies with respect is bordering on creating a subconscious message that it's ok to treat the aforementioned disrespectfully.

Well said inkpink and welcome.

Following on from Alioop's post: I wish AB a speedy recovery so he can be returned to jail for close supervision pending the hearing of the charges against him. Then Legally Brunette's post: Quite surprising that he managed to harm himself so severely when he was supposedly on close watch already.

The man charged with the rape and murder of Jill Meagher, was removed from 24-hour, protective observation by Victorian prison authorities two weeks ago. The self-harm attempt by the state's highest profile prisoner is a breach of security and a major embarrassment for Corrections Victoria. An investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the high security failure.

We hope that he lives to face the charges against him IMO.

I can't believe it took the girlfriend this long to leave him!!!

I do feel for her though, assuming she knew nothing of his past. She must be an absolute mess now!

Hypothetically, if MB never made it to trial it would save some in authority being held to account.
JMO

I'm not at all surprised - Carl Williams was also supposedly under close watch and I imagine there would have been some distinct advantages in him disappearing as well......in my humble opinion ;)

<modsnip>, I'm of the opinion that the above is very true in relation to AB. The trail of incompetence is a disgrace, and not even factoring in the revelations about the fiasco called the Metro Remand Centre. Corrections Victoria ? more likely Calamities Victoria.
If Lynda La Plante wrote this readers would say it was too far fetched.:moo::banghead:

Perhaps there should be a distinction made, everyone is entitled to be treated with politeness and courtesy, but respect for the individual should be earned. You can be polite to a person you detest, you can't respect them.

My sons were taught to show courtesy to girls, women and older people, they will stand back and hold a door for them to go through, offer assistance, pull out a chair and help them sit, and so on. That is simple good manners.

Some people might confuse this with respect, they are not the same.

I agree respect is earned which is where treating people with regard comes into it.
