Here's a preview of our story on Zoe's Law, a bill that would give legal status to a foetus:
on #abcrn at 5.30pm. abc.net.au/radionational/…

'Zoe's law' is a private member's bill put forward by Liberal MP Chris Spence. The bill changes the legal status of an unborn child and in very limited circumstances makes it a crime to kill a foetus 20 weeks or older.

You can catch The Law Report on Tuesdays at 5:30 pm.

I hope the man from the service station comes forward to police. I doubt that the person in the white boardshorts will come forward, so I think the man at the service station is their only hope.

I wonder why they need these witnesses?

Might be new leads have them looking for more perps or info?
I hope they've already got a tight case!!

THE husband of murder victim Joan Ryther has received another blow after being told the bond on his rented home has been withheld.

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/new...as-been-withheld/story-e6frg6n6-1226681275426

so it seems obvious to me that the 'key witness' some of us were wondering about was actually Joan's husband Cory ...

"I can say under the circumstances I was not in the best state of mind before leaving Australia,’’ Mr Ryther said in the email."

It never even crossed my mind that it could be him.

Regarding Lady L's post, no the "overseas" witness referred to by police as being necessary for interview, was NOT Mr. Ryther. He was still in Australia at the time that comment was made, it was made before his wife's funeral service, and weeks before he later took her body back to the Philippines for final internment.

No, I didn't think that made sense, as I imagine that Corey would make himself available, and in any case I think the only reason he went overseas was because of Joan's death to take her 'home' etc.

Family of murder victim, Joan Ryther, safe after Phillipines typhoon

November 16, 2013

"The family of Joan Ryther, the pregnant Logan woman who was raped and killed in May, has escaped harm in the typhoon-ravaged Philippines, much to her widower's relief.

By rights, Cory Ryther should be in south-east Queensland spending this November with his wife and holding his newborn daughter, Camille, in his arms.

Instead, he is back home in Canada with his family, dealing with the loss of a woman so cruelly taken from him."

WARNING: Graphic content

JOAN Ryther was bashed and raped with a “broad blunt object” before being choked to death, a pathologist has told committal proceedings into her murder.

Mrs Ryther’s husband Cory struggled to hear the testimony of her violent death, which included detail on significant trauma to her genitals.

The 27-year-old was eight weeks pregnant when she was murdered on her way to a 9pm shift at her local McDonald’s.

The man accused of her rape and murder can now be identified as 19-year-old Andrew Michael Burke, of Cherbourg, after the magistrate today committed him to stand trial.

Police believe she left home around 8.30pm on May 21, 2013, planning to walk the kilometre or so to Logan Central McDonald’s.

She’d made it 900m when her killer struck. Her partially-clothed body was found the following morning in the front garden of a Leichhardt St home.

Joan Ryther: DNA found on victim's clothing 'likely' to be from murder accused, court told

'DNA found on the clothing worn by Joan Ryther the day she died almost certainly belongs to the man charged with her 2013 rape and murder, a court has been told.

Andrew Michael Burke, 21, has pleaded not guilty to the charges in the Supreme Court in Brisbane.'

'Burke has also pleaded not guilty to a charge of killing an unborn child.

In his opening statements, prosecutor Glen Cash QC told the jury they would hear from more than 60 witnesses.

The witnesses will include a scientist who will tell the court that DNA found on Ms Ryther's jacket was 100 billion times more likely to have come from Burke than from anyone else.

"While Joanne was walking along Leichhardt Street she was attacked, about that there can be simply no doubt," Mr Cash said.

"Bleeding, she was dragged across the street ... and there she was viciously assaulted. Her attacker left her to die alone face down in the grass."'

'Burke's lawyer Frank Martin warned the jury not to necessarily rely upon DNA evidence.

"It's the defence case that you be very careful of what the crown says about DNA," he said.

"Don't be bamboozled by the DNA as such."'

'The trial continues.'
