A family friend told The Daily Telegraph that Monis and Droudis, who were introduced by *mutual friends, married recently because they believed that a husband and wife could not be forced to give evidence against each other in court. They did not know three years ago, the High Court found that *so-called “spousal privilege” no longer existed.

Sydney siege: DPP moves to get gunman partner Amirah Droudis off streets

AUTHORITIES today will seek to put the partner of Man Haron Monis behind bars amid community anger about the legal process that left the Sydney siege gunman out on bail at the time of last week’s deadly attack on the Lindt cafe.

The NSW Director of Public Prosecutions has issued Amirah Droudis, 35, with a “bail review” and will try to have her freedom revoked while she awaits trial for the alleged murder of Monis’s ex-wife last year.

John Robertson defends Martin Place gunman letter:

Mr Robertson signed a letter on behalf of Monis in September 2011, one month after he had walked into his Blacktown electorate office asking for help contacting the Department of Family and Community Services.

The letter, bearing Mr Robertson's signature, conveyed a request from Monis in relation to a dispute with his second wife, Noleen Hayson Pal, over visitation access and custody over their two children.

Monis would later be charged with being an accessory to Ms Pal's murder.

But despite coming nearly two years after a court had intervened to stop Monis from continuing a campaign of writing obscene letters to families of dead Australian soldiers between 2007 and 2009, Mr Robertson confirmed neither he nor his staff mentioned or researched Monis' criminal history.

"I was unaware of any relationship between him and those letters," Mr Robertson said. "He operated under many aliases over many years.
"My staff do not have the capacity to do Google checks or check on individuals."

All out of computers that day huh? Look this says more about the laziness of our state officials than it does about Monis. Someone asked JR to sign a letter, so he did it, perhaps he thought it would help him with the minority vote or similar. LOVING the 'many aliases' excuse .. OK so someone comes into our country and starts using aliases on top of sending hate letters to the families of dead Australian soldiers and we're all like 'meh, OK I'll sign some letter to help you get custody of your kids or whatever', so crazy!!

A Sydney magistrate says video evidence he has reviewed has nothing to do with a bail review hearing for Amirah Droudis, the partner of the Lindt cafe gunman.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-12-22/sydney-siege-gunman-partner-amirah-droudis-bail-review/5982674

However, it shows that she would do anything at Monis' bidding. Who knows what she could do in honour of his death? Also a witness identified her as the murderer!

These Magistrates and Labour politicians are simply too soft on criminals. What if one of their family was murdered?

I will be very interested to know whether she is put in prison today or not.

She better be .. yes magistrates are way too soft on criminals, pity about the rest of us just trying to live in peace.

In Amirah's defence, Legal Aid representatives for Ms Droudis — who was arrested last year over the murder of gunman Man Haron Monis’ ex-wife — have argued DNA evidence of a man had been found at the murder scene, weakening the state’s case to revoke her bail.

“The conduct included some video (footage) we say feeds into the strength of the murder (case) given her willingness to act on the wishes of Monis,” the DPP argued this afternoon.

Further, the contents of the video highlighted concerns for public security if Ms Droudis were granted bail.

Wife of Martin Place shooter has bail revoked

The widow of Sydney siege gunman has had her bail revoked and will be held in custody following a hearing at Downing Centre Local Court.

Earlier today, Amirah Droudis arrived at court with her stepbrother this morning and refused to answer questions from the waiting media.

NSW Chief Magistrate Judge Graeme Henson adjourned the bail review hearing until 3.30pm to allow Droudis to view video evidence, which the prosecution claims prove she is an unacceptable risk to the community.

Sydney siege: Man Haron Monis’s wife Amirah Droudis has bail revoked, is taken into custody

THE court has just revoked the bail for Amirah Droudis, with sheriffs taking her immediately into custody.

But her solicitor Justin Lewis has said he believed Judge Graeme Henson was only going to determine whether he could hear the application today, and not make a decision on revoking bail.

Judge Henson found there was “an unacceptable risk” Droudis may fail to appear in court as a way of trying to avoid a lengthy jail term if convicted of murder.

“I’ve made my decision, I’m afraid,” Judge Henson told Mr Lewis.

The court found the “unacceptable risk” Droudis posed could not be mitigated by tight conditions.

She will appear in Penrith Court in February.

Earlier in the day, Prosecutor John Pickering SC told the state’s Chief Magistrate, Judge Graeme Henson, that “irrespective of her compliance on bail” the magistrate who initially granted bail “may not have [had] a full appreciation of the risk.”

Mr Pickering cited videos where Droudis has declared “support at the Bali bombing, or 9/11, or some of her views relating to sexual assault.”

He said the videos, combined with the serious murder charge against her, warrant a review of bail.

Good day finally :) Maybe the magistrates and politicians are finally realising what we expect from them :D Oh I'm so naive ...

A day or so after the siege there was some blurry footage released (ch 7 I think) looking through the cafe windows as the police were firing at him. You do see him walking around and get a glimpse of his gun. The image of the police with their guns raised and scanning the room is stuck in my mind. I didn't post the YouTube link because I found it quite disturbing as there is a woman that screams. But I believe it was published in The Mirror and someone uploaded to YT in slow motion. Not really sure what my point is, but the five bullets to the head reminded me of it.

MOST people only notice a bride’s wedding bouquet when there are a gaggle of screaming women vying to catch it.

But this bride caught the attention of the whole nation after laying her wedding bouquet at the memorial site of the Lindt Cafe siege site.

The 23-year-old, identified as Manal Kassem from the Sydney suburb of Punchbowl, made a pilgrimage to Martin Place on her wedding day.

After watching the wedding party approach, the city crowd broke into applause.

Nearly 100 volunteers gathered at Martin Place on Tuesday morning to begin clearing the sea of bouquets left in tribute to the victims of last week's siege at the Lindt Cafe.

In the lead up to 8am commuters looked on as boxes of varying sizes began lining the sea of the flowers in preparation for their removal.

There are about 95 bunches of flowers per square metre at Martin Place and one volunteer said he would not be surprised if there were up to 100,000 bouquets.

They were provided with black gloves and small bags in which to place any cards, letters or soft toys left with flowers.

Cleansing operations manager Shane Smith asked volunteers to take care with any ornaments or candles by placing them in specific boxes lined with bubble wrap.

Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons.

Thank you to all our ‪#‎NSWRFS‬ members who joined fellow volunteers from SES and Red Cross with the very sensitive task of collecting the flowers and messages from Martin Place ahead of forecast rain. Very proud to see all involved performing their roles in such a respectful and dignified manner.

John Robertson just announced his resignation ...

It comes after revelations that Mr Robertson signed a letter for Lindt cafe gunman Man Haron Monis in 2011 - two years after the extremist was charged with sending offensive letters to the families of slain diggers.

The letter asked the Department of Families and Community Services to consider granting Monis access to see his children on Father’s Day.

The embattled MP said he came to the job in difficult circumstances and just wanted to “make a difference and serve the community”.

“It has become clear to me that I’ve lost the support of some of my senior colleagues, and so as a lifelong Labor man I have decided to step aside as Labor leader,” Mr Robertson said.
