Just about two weeks from now... Interesting to see what the sentence will be.
Anyone who knows what we could expect and if he can appeal?
I wonder if that taser gun and the illegal firearms charges will be added.

The maximum sentence for rape in Qld. is life imprisonment although I doubt he'll get anywhere near that. I've a feeling this case was brought into it or perhaps brought forward as a means of keeping him in the country.

If charges have already been laid re the taser and illegal firearms, they will be heard separately.

And yes he can appeal the verdict and whatever sentence he's given....

What is frightening to me is this statement …

Barrister Tony Kimmins asked for Chardon to remain on bail to look after his two young children. Judge Wall agreed to allow him bail to get his business and family affairs in order ……

What the heck is the matter here??!!! This man had just been convicted of raping a child! Knowing what we know about his temperament, he would no doubt have been less than pleased with his conviction. And yet he is allowed to continue to ‘look after’ his young children, until he gets some kind of sentence?

Colour me confused … and totally disgusted.

And where the heck are these people .... ? http://www.communities.qld.gov.au/childsafety/protecting-children/about-child-protection

2 more days until sentencing for this monster. Hope it is a long and just sentence for the victim's sake.

His 'charming' daughters were both considered POI's in Novy's disappearance too. God forbid they have the kids, while the monster's in jail.

I wonder if Novy's family have applied for custody? And if they did, how would that go, legally speaking.

Poor babies...

Ha - sorry - double post - sleepinoz was faster than me (forgot to refresh the page)

During the trial Chardon denied the charges, claiming it was the 15-year-old schoolgirl who offered him sex and he had turned her down after getting legal advice on the ramifications of sleeping with a minor.

He did admit he started a secret cash-for-sex relationship with the teenager once she came of age.

He continued to protest his innocence even after a jury of 12 found him guilty of six sex offences including rape and attempted rape.

He will be eligible for parole after serving three years behind bars.

Thanks for those updates, I've been very eager to see how this went. And now, lets see what additional time he gets for the gun charges...

But that's three years of solid time so far. Better than nothing, I guess.

Judge Clive Wall QC controversially allowed Chardon bail for a month to “get his affairs in order” before today’s sentence.

Chardon’s adult daughters defended him during the trial but were understood to have said their goodbyes to their father at his Coomera home this morning instead of coming to court.

---

"controversially" allowed.... How is that even allowed, in a rape case? Someone needs to look into that whole thing, IMO.

I'm glad to see that Novy's mentioned in almost every report...

Chardon has been described by police as the only suspect in the disappearance of his fifth wife Novy, who vanished from their Upper Coomera home in February last year.

Police have said she disappeared on the same day she visited her lawyer to finalise a divorce from the millionaire businessman.

They have said they believe the 34-year-old was murdered and that more than one person was responsible for disposing of her body, which has not been found.

Also, a pre-sentence news report mentioning Novy:

An older report, not sure if it's already up.. but it just shows how powerless Novy's family feels. So sad for them...

--

As the business became more successful, Estralita said, the couple’s marriage started to crumble. Estralita claimed Chardon had multiple affairs with other women.

The marriage took a serious hit when Chardon told Novy that he wanted to get a loan from the bank to develop the business, and she refused the proposal.

“John threatened to divorce her when she refused to grant her approval to get the loan,” Estralita said.

At one point, Estralita said, the marriage turned so bad that Novy told her she wanted a divorce. She even hired a lawyer to fight for asset division.

She said the family advised Novy to let go of the assets to prevent Chardon’s anger, which may endanger her. However, Novy insisted to fight for the wealth division.

--

Estralita said the tragedy of what had happened to her daughter should serve as an example for other parents to be careful about their children changing nationality.

“If anything happens it will be difficult to find the much needed information,” Estralita said.

Check out Mrs. Aler's expression in this wedding pic. I don't think I've ever seen a new mother-in-law look that unhappy.

Oh, thank goodness he has been put away for a while. :happydance:

NOW maybe someone will speak out about Novy's disappearance and presumed murder. :please:

What about the children? Where are they? How good it would be if Novy's mum could take them now ......

Look at Chardon's sneer in that photo - like he has won a prize at the carnival.

Oh yes... indeed. Let's hope he starts bragging around to his cell mates and a Daniel Morcombe like investigation uncovers it all.
Regarding his kids I'm afraid they are under the scrunity of this exquisite young lady who will learn them her best Chardon manners:

"That is the biggest load of s — t I’ve ever heard,”
Ms Chardon, one of two children from Mr Chardon’s earlier marriage to Maureen, now lives with her father in the Upper Coomera house he shared with Novy and their two children — Alex, 7 and Channell, 9.

The judge told the court Chardon had demeaned, used and abused a family friend.

The director of the Gold Coast Centre Against Sexual Violence, Di McLeod, said she was impressed with some of Judge Wall's comments.

"Persistent and predatory, he said a number of times. I think he understood the issue of grooming," she said.

Chardon's wife Novy has been missing for more than 18 months.

The 34-year-old woman was reported missing from her Upper Coomera home in February last year.

In March this year, Police Minister Jack Dempsey posted a $250,000 reward for information about her disappearance.

The reward was offered shortly after police dug up the backyard of a home at Mount Nathan on the Gold Coast Hinterland and found parts of a white ute believed to be connected to Ms Chardon's disappearance.
