Good post Southaussie.
Case Update: February 13th, 2013. Police brief of evidence against Hunter to be sent to his Lawyers by tomorrow February 13th, 2013.

Indeed - as you have pointed out elsewhere, Fuskier, looks like the next 4 weeks or so are going to be busy weeks for sleuths - yeay :)

Discussions likely to start warming up leading up to the legal wranglings...

Feels like forever waiting for this to get underway...

Interesting article in todays Courier Mail:

Inside the minds of Queensland's worst psychopaths, The Sunday Mail (Qld) March 10, 2013 12:00AM.
THEY are some of Queensland's worst psychopaths - men with no conscience, incapable of seeing the terror in their victims' eyes. Psychiatrists say they are unreachable and untreatable . . . beyond help

Just a reminder .... the committal hearing for SH is this Wednesday 27th March .. finally!

A CONVICTED killer has pleaded guilty to murdering Bacchus Marsh woman Sarah Cafferkey - his second frenzied stabbing murder in a criminal career spanning two decades.

Hunter today pleaded guilty to a count of murder and was remanded in custody to face the Supreme Court on April 11.
WOW! Thanks for the update AMEE. That must have been a brief Committal mention.
Steven James Hunter, 47, who served a 13-years for stabbing 18-year-old Moonee Ponds woman Jacqueline Mathews in 1986, faces the prospect of spending the rest of his life in prison after entering a guilty plea this morning at Melbourne Magistrates Court. Hunter today pleaded guilty to a count of murder and was remanded in custody to face the Supreme Court on April 11, 2013.. It’s believed Ms Cafferkey’s body had been left at Hunter’s property for some time. He then moved her to a property in Point Cook where she was placed in a bin which had been filled with cement.

I have checked out twitter this morning, very quiet, not much information about the hearing itself.

I'm glad that he did plead guilty. I was just thinking 'what's with crims these days, they do what they bloody want and then plead not guilty'. I'm sure that makes it easier on her family. I sure do feel for them all though.

So I guess there's nothing more to hear? We might never know why he did it since there won't be a trial?

Rap sheet of Steven James Hunter revealed after pleading guilty to frenzied stabbing murder of Sarah Cafferkey

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/la...ad-a-brutal-past/story-fnat7jnn-1226607526292

Steven James Hunter has twice claimed the lives of vibrant young women in the most brutal way.

His criminal past reveals a frightening history of violence, and thumbing his nose at the law by reoffending on parole.

November 1, 2012: Parole period ended.

November 10, 2012: Fatally stabbed Sarah Cafferkey at his Bacchus Marsh home. :furious::furious:

Disgusting that he got such a short sentence for the first girl. Hopefully they throw away the key this time. When will he be sentenced?

Reading that article just made me feel so sick, so angry...

In June 2006 this man had his sentence reduced by 6 months. Aside from the obvious facts that his sentence was too light for the first murder, he escaped from prison, he continually reoffended, somehow it was concluded that his sentence should be reduced? It is cases like these that create such frustration with the justice system.

This animal has had no regard for the law or humanity for 30 years now. I don't even know where to begin. 13 years after he took a young woman's life for rejecting his advances, he was free to walk the streets. He continued to be involved in criminal activity. He again took another life. I hope that his sentence is harsh, but how hard it must be for Sarah's family, nothing can erase the pain.

Do we know which judge this will come before yet? Will it be the same judge as today?

It will be a different judge for sentencing. Today's hearing was in Melb Magistrate's Court....sentencing will be handed down in Supreme Court.

Thanks Marly. I didn't even think of that! I was hoping we would be able to see how lenient the judge is. Hopefully not very...

Relieved her family won't have to go through a trial.

I hadn't heard those very specific details (listed in the article above) about the crime before - is this the first time they have been released to the public? What an evil brute he is - poor Sarah and her family.
