What was the big mystery about the man's relationship to the children? Any ideas?

I am wondering that, too...

Could he have been "out of the picture" for a long time....

maybe mom had remarried/started a new relationship... And the bio dad was not familiar to the rest of the family?

This is not a strong theory... but the only one I can come up with at the moment...

A neighbour Ms Bassiere said the children were often dropped off by their father.

So is this the same guy who often dropped them off or is there another dad now who drops them off? JMOO

Awful awful shocking story .... It's so hard to fathom that something so horrendous could possibly happen at a family gathering.

But after a string of family violence tragedies involving our youngest and most vulnerable Victorians the thoughts of those in the street turned to that most dreadful possibility.

“It sounds like it’s another family violence case,” one neighbour, who did not want to be named, said.

“There’s been too much of that going on lately. It’s just horrendous.”

That the sisters may have died in front of family members at an Easter Sunday gathering added an element of anger to the mourning.

Sunrise just announced " arrested over the death of the man's two young daughters "

The girls, both aged under five, were found dead at a house in Watsonia. Police arrested a man at the scene on Sunday afternoon.
The girls, Indiana and Savana, were at their grandmother's Longmuir Road house at the time.

The two little sisters had been seen around the neighbourhood during regular visits with their father, who lived in a flat behind his former mother-in-law’s house.

One man in the group, who gave his name only as Mark, said he had been the best man at the wedding of the children’s parents, but the couple had split more than a year ago.

AN elderly woman believed to own the property where two young sisters were killed in a horrifying Easter Sunday tragedy has returned to the scene in Melbourne’s northeast.

Margaret Mills, believed to be the girls’ great-grandmother, was supported by two friends and hung her head as she walked up the stairs to her front door on Longmuir Rd, Watsonia

The Herald Sun understands police will allege the girls, who neighbours said were as young as three and four, were stabbed by Charles Mihayo inside a granny flat in the backyard of their grandmother’s house on Longmuir Rd, Watsonia, during a family Easter gathering.

It remains unclear whether police have found the weapon allegedly used but forensic investigators have not been on scene since 3am, and the clean-up is due to begin.

Two female deceased-estate cleaners, wearing white coveralls, entered the back unit of the property this morning.

The victims' names have been released.

Can't get any worse than that :tantrum:Just...why?! Will never understand how fathers can do this to their own children! So selfish. I'm just sick of hearing about it. Sick of it happening.
The poor grandmother as well, having to return to the house it just happened in. Easter will never be the same for that family again. Thoughts are with the mother of these beautiful girls.

I wonder if one can be desensitised following crimes on WS.

Obviously not. I cried, truly cried for these little ones.
Not at Easter, not anytime.

Strangely I have no further words, no questions. I can't.
I know anything I'll say will put me in the sin bin.

Aww … TGY….

This has hit everyone hard. Here and everywhere.

FB is completely filled with the horrified reactions of people everywhere.

Two little cherubs. Murdered. On Easter Sunday. At a family gathering. Father charged. What could be worse?

You know when Darcey Freeman was murdered by her father I thought omg, is there anything worse? Then Luke Batty was murdered by his father and I thought the same. But this? In their home, on Easter? Horrific, heartbreaking and such a waste of life.

Pictures released of the little girls allegedly killed by their dad over Easter.

A friend of the girls’ mother, Amelia Price, has said she is struggling to come to grips with what has happened.

“It is such a tragic event,” the friend said. “Those kids are the mother’s world.”

It’s understood Ms Price and Mr Mihayo were married but split last year.
