Also mentioned in the ABC article Drsleuth has posted above:-

Mr Ryan said a national firearms register was being established, led by the federal government.

He said Queensland's reformed weapons licensing management system should be online by late 2025, and that the state had invested in more drones and upgrades to the digital communication network for police.”

Lets hope the National Firearms Register isn’t too far off!

Does the wording "shot to the head" mean that the shot didn't kill them. The other wording used is "shot in the head". I wonder what the difference is?

  • Stacy Train was shot in the head @ 10:32pm
  • Gareth was shot to the head @ 10:36pm
  • Nathaniel Train was shot in the head & torso @ 10:39

The siege lasted from 6pm until 10.30pm!

6pm

"Police issued an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act, which closed off the nearby area and warned residents to stay inside.

Sixteen specialist police officers and PolAir, led by a local sergeant, arrived at the property and a siege commenced.

10.30pm

The two men and a woman were shot dead in a firefight with police, the force said.

“Two males and a female were fatally shot during a confrontation with police shortly after 10.30pm,” police said in a statement early Tuesday morning."

No the shots killed them IMO

Constable Rachel McCrow begged for life before being shot dead in Wieambilla massacre

In an extraordinary act of courage under fire, slain police officer Rachel McCrow recorded her final seconds - shot three times, begging for her life as her killer approached and opened fire at close range.

Around 4:40pm Constable McCrow tried ( did not work ) to call out on police radio for urgent assistance , whilst being shot in her back.

She was than shot in her Rt leg & Lt upper leg, all while recording on her BWC, what was happening & recorded a message of love for her family, she pleaded for her life before she was killed at close range. She also fired 15 shots.......

More at link & so very sad.

RIP Rachel McCrow

So true, the way it was worded in the other article had me confused. This latest article words it as "gunshot to".....

"The inquest was told Gareth died from a gunshot wound to the head at 10.32pm, Stacey died from a gunshot wound to the head at 10.36pm and Nathaniel died at about 10.39pm from a gunshot wound to the torso and the head.

Ms O’Gorman said the deaths of all three Train family members are considered deaths in custody as their deaths occurred while officers were trying to arrest them.

She explained this is the reason why their deaths must be examined by a coronial inquest."

BBM : Does it really matter?

They were terrorised & shot dead in front of their mates, the 2 who survived were so very lucky, but I can't imagine what they went thru, Constable Keely Brough hide in 8 inches of bush while having fires set around her & being fired at, on the phone to 000 for 2hrs, the fire got within 1 meter of her.

Constable Randall Kirk, hid behind a small gum tree, while talking to his sergeant on the phone ( no radio communications ) with the shooters coming towards him , he ran ( he knew Rachel had been shot dead ) & was shot at 9 times , hit in the hip & abdomen, he made it to the police car which was also shot at , hitting the windscreen & door.

This really is the stuff of nigtmares...........

'Blood on my face': Harrowing ambush videos played at Wieambilla inquest

The four constables climbed over a fence and chatted about their status as first-year officers before an unseen person opened fire on them without warning as they walked up a winding dirt driveway with open grass either side separating them from bushland.
"There's a warrant for this fella?" one officer says in the seconds before O'Gorman stopped the video and said Arnold was shot in the chest and died.

O'Gorman said McCrow showed "great courage and grace" by recording important details about the attackers and a message to her family after she was shot three times in the back and legs while trying to crawl to cover.
"She recorded that a shooter was coming towards her. She discharged 15 shots from her Glock (police-issued handgun) and pleaded with the male. There was a brief verbal exchange before she was killed at close range," O'Gorman said.

Wieambilla massacre inquest hears final moments of cops Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold

New details on the final minutes of two young cops brutally killed in an ambush have been aired at an inquest into their deaths. Warning: Graphic content.

A police officer who watched his two colleagues die during an ambush attack at a rural Queensland property was shot in the hip while trying to escape, a court has been told.

Moments after the first shot fired, Constable Kirk tried calling for help using his police radio but was unsuccessful due to poor reception.

Ms O’Gorman said body worn footage captured audio of one of the Train brothers saying “that was a mistake boys” and “come out come out and get on the *advertiser censored*king ground or you die” after Constable Kirk fired his weapon in the direction of the original gunshots.

What a freakin' nightmare for the officers. Hunted down, taunted, and murdered. :( :( :(

Constable Arnold was shot in the torso and died on the driveway.

His body-worn camera continued to record.

snip

"Initially she reported the flames as being 15 metres away from her. Then as time passed, she reported they were eight metres away, then five metres, three metres, two metres and one," Ms O'Gorman said.

"She reported she could feel the fire on her feet. It was two metres tall. Then the wind picked up and the fire was all around her.
"She could not move, because she knew they were all around her."

"She could either burn to death or stand up and get shot to death," the court heard another police officer later remarked.

She was rescued about 6:30pm, nearly two hours since the first shots were fired.

Yep, I really hope that they don't make Constable Keely Brough testify in person, they have her 000 call, all the other BWV's etc.

The families of the 2 deceased officers family want her to testify, the others don't.

Her mental health should be taken seriously IMO

I wonder if the Trains had some kind of (illegal) jammer on their property. Wouldn't surprise me.

"The court heard several police radios didn’t work on the remote property."

"Randall Kirk .... He hid from the Trains behind a small gum tree alone while speaking to his sergeant on his personal phone.
He then told his sergeant the assailants knew where he was and were coming towards him.
His sergeant asked him if he wanted to try to run “tree to tree to get out of there”.
“I can try,” Kirk can be heard saying, on the recording."

Maybe SA. They certainly were prepared for who ever came knocking on their door.

Or the police radios didn't work for what ever reason.........
