Ohhhh, how horrible. I feel so sad for the family. How did this happen? Was the young girl who did it known to be mentally unwell? They, the family, friends, police and townspeople are all in my prayers. May God help them through this grief. Katt
Absolutely Shocking. The poor mother and family of the little girl would be absolutely beside themselves.

There are claims that she was unwell and she appeared to be acting strange in the days leading up to the incident. More details shall come out soon.

This is just so awful. It seems she had been acting strangely, and getting worse, for some time. Probably has schizophrenia or something. But what could have been done about it? I believe she did have a psychiatrist or similar. But you can't lock up someone who hasn't done anything much. And who could have imagined she would do something so terrible. This poor family is broken forever, and the girl herself will likely never be free.

from: Parents of 10-year-old murder victim seek to reclaim daughter's identity

Four years today

[...]

In May last year, Rebekah and Dom discovered their daughter's killer had been granted escorted day leave from where they were being treated.

"I thought, 'Wait a minute, not only has this happened, my daughter's name has also been suppressed, I can't speak about her publicly', so it was just like a bolt of lightning hit me," Ms Porter said.

In a statement, the Mental Health Review Tribunal (MHRT), which decided if and when the person was released, said it "does not, and must not, discuss any matters that are current or pending before it".

[...]

Under NSW law, the name of a child murder victim cannot be published or broadcast without the consent of their senior next of kin — such as parents.

ADMIN NOTE:

I think the problem we have here is that the perpetrator was also a minor, so regardless of the victim's parents giving consent, publishing the victim's name has the potential to identify the minor perp who was found not criminally responsible.

While the parents have given permission to ABC to release their daughter's name, there is nothing from NSW authorities that the ban has been lifted.

Until Tricia can weigh in, please hold off naming the young victim on the board until it's decided which route to go. In the meantime, links to articles containing her name are fine, as long as her name doesn't appear on the public pages.

Thanks to everyone for your cooperation.

Tricia thinks we need to stay safe, and until NSW authorities okay it, "there is no need to post her full name".

The petition is also calling for a coronial inquest into the circumstances surrounding *the child victim's* death.
"It was a very, very heinous and brutal way that she died and it was extraordinarily violent and gruesome," Ms Porter said.
"It's never going to bring back *the child victim* - she's gone, unfortunately and devastatingly - but I do hope that questions will be answered by those inquests."

Read - 98.1 Power FM ( sorry unsure how to take name out of article to link, but article is on this page )

It’s been revealed the person who killed former Muswellbrook Girl ( name ) has reportedly had their day leave cancelled.

10-year-old ( name ) , as she was known to family and friends, was brutally killed in the state’s Central West in 2020.

Her killer was found guilty but not criminally responsible for the death.

The Telegraph reports the leave has now been revoked over an alleged attempt to choke another patient.

With the murder taking place in 2020, the murderer would now be approx 18 years old. It is very disturbing that she ‘allegedly’ attempted to choke another patient and had her day leave recently revoked. She is now an adult but clearly has a long way to go with her rehabilitation and learning to take responsibility for her actions. It is certainly a sad case but we should never forget her 10 year old victim in 2020, her family and prioritise protecting others in the community moving forward.IMO

Great news!

In short:

A petition created by the parents of a murdered New South Wales girl has reached its target of 20,000 signatures.

It has been established to call for greater justice for their 10-year-old who was killed in 2020.

What's next?

The petition will now be debated in NSW parliament.
