Tradesman Bill Spedding also had business dealings with Jones’s daughter, selling her a washing machine in the western NSW town. Jones was convicted of indecently assaulting an 11-year-old girl.

GAPA president Paul Bickford said the grant was a “huge relief” to the support group’s volunteer committee.
“It is very pleasing to receive this money,” Mr Bickford said.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council also has provided assistance.

this working with children check was only put into action after pb was arrested so anyone could be a member up to then?
this info taken from the gapa 2013-2014 annual report when the new president took over...

The Office of the Children’s Guardian requested that we obtain the Working with Children Check. The majority of the members complied with some still waiting on their numbers.

It feels like they are slowly tightening a noose with each release of information. I hope people with information are feeling the pressure!

Yeah, the release of these new names will hopefully get more people talking. I know the two people have not been linked to William's disappearance, but each piece of information could trigger someone's memory.

Both men — who are close friends — were arrested and charged in the time following the disappearance of William.

What a bitter bitter irony.

In the Meeting Reports of October 21, 2013 we have PB presiding as President.

Excerpt from the minutes of that meeting:

“Discussion took place over Working with Children Check.
Notice of Motion was moved Tony Jones second Kay Casey that,
As you will be aware a new Working with Children Check came into effect on 15th June 2013 and must be completed by all authorised carers by December.
Once you have your clearance number GAPA must be provided with that number, your date of birth and date of cover to keep a register, as requested by the Office of the Children’s Guardian.”

Coincidences, Coincidences the mind boggles grandparents groups abusing children SMH.
Like bear says I bet this is something that's right up BS's street and why the police won't drop BS as POI.

I find it interesting that Jubelin refers to 'persons of interest' whereas most of the reports so far have been 'person', singular.

They must have decided they both needed a closer to the sea change.
I wonder where AJ settled on the coast?

However GAPA's chaplain Alan Battishall said Mr Spedding had nothing to do with them.
"We didn't even know who he was until it all blew up," he said.

Another former GAPA member, Anthony Jones of Wauchope, has also been charged with indecent assault.
It is understood he was charged shortly after William vanished from his grandmother's yard in Kendall on September 12, 2014.

On Friday, September 12, he said he missed a call from the grandmother's phone and told police and family he tried to call back but got no answer.
He claimed he went to have coffee with his wife in Laurieton and then watched his grandson receive a school award.
Later that afternoon Mr Spedding claimed he called William's grandmother's phone again and a member of the toddler's family answered, said they were busy and he would have to call back.
Mr Spedding told police and his family he never went to Kendall that day.

'Strike Force Rosann detectives travelled to the Mid North Coast in April to interview the group's members.
It was a few days after Mr Spedding was arrested and charged with unrelated historical child sex offences, allegedly committed in Sydney's west in the 1980's'

The Working with Children checks are only useful for showing people with previous convictions. Thousands of paedophiles out there would grin happily as they put forward their applications, knowing there is nothing on record for them.

Mr Bickford is instrumental in organising meetings, guest speakers and a social day each month.
His vision for a respite camp for grandparents and children at Bonny Hills will come to fruition in December.
He also was at the forefront of opening a GAPA branch in Wauchope and another branch is in the pipeline for Taree early next year.

I must admit, I do feel sorry for the grandparents and kids who are members of GAPA and have no connection to this latest revelation whatsoever. The majority would be good people battling to give their grandchildren the love and care they deserve. All in all GAPA sounds like a great idea. It's just a shame that there are monsters out there who gravitate to groups like this where there are children at their disposal to hurt in any way they see fit. :furious:

Jones and Bickford were also questioned at length about any connection to William's disappearance and they were asked to provide details of where they were on September 12..........
It is understood Jones used to live in Wellington in north-west NSW, where Mr Spedding also lived and ran a pawnbroker business until his move to the Mid North Coast............
Mr Spedding's Bonny Hills home and Laurieton business were searched earlier this year as part of William's case.

I wonder if the details of where they were checked out?

It just shows how such a minute section of the community can do so much damage to such an amazing cause.
It creates paranoia amongst the community.
Just take one pedophile not long ago busted with 400000 images it was led to believe he produced most of.
A few people can be responsible for so much damage.
We have to be careful we dont tar the whole brush with one bad bristle.
Those people that would give Angel the life she really deserves and some.
