You are misconstruing my post. That wasn't the point i was making at all.

I don't think so karinna. You wrote "IMO i don't think coronavirus is the reason. It doesn't make sense".... But in actual fact - corona virus is the reason... so? Anyway, once again I will tell you I won't enter into a tit-for-tat with you, as I know you like that... :rolleyes:

Just regarding the discussion about the 'inquest' being a 'court' and whether it was regarded as an 'essential activity', from the Prime Minister of Australia's website about gatherings of over 100 people: BBM

"This does not apply to essential activities such as public transportation facilities, medical and health care facilities, pharmacies, emergency service facilities, correctional facilities, youth justice centres or other places of custody, courts or tribunals, Parliaments, food markets, supermarkets and grocery stores, shopping centres, office buildings, factories, construction sites, and mining sites, where it is necessary for their normal operation (although other social distancing and hygiene practices may be required in these settings)."

From the NSW Coroners Court: NSW Coroners Court (click on the coronavirus link):

"

  • Despite the above, if you have had close contact with someone diagnosed with or suspected or confirmed as having coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 14 days DO NOT ATTEND A COURT/TRIBUNAL
  • If you are feeling unwell and experiencing any of the following symptoms - fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath DO NOT ATTEND A COURT/TRIBUNAL
  • If you have travelled and returned from overseas in the past 14 days DO NOT ATTEND A COURT/TRIBUNAL
***Registrars/Sheriff officers may deny entry or request any person to leave a building"

Just wanted to clarify that 'Irma' Porter is Ray Porter's brother, Tom's wife, not Ray's wife, in case there was any confusion.

Lia Harris@LiaJHarris·7m
Tom Porter, Ray’s brother, is now in the witness box. He described Ray as “sort of a loner” and said he was “easily influenced” by others who often “took advantage of him”.

Lia Harris@LiaJHarris·4m
Mr Porter told the court he and his wife regularly visited Ray in the nursing home in Port Macquarie in 2018 and 2019. The court heard they “didn’t know much about his life in 2014”.
....
Lia Harris@LiaJHarris·8m
Replying to @LiaJHarris
Mr Porter’s wife Irma is now in the witness box. She told the court Ray told her the police had been asking him about Frank and whether or not he could drive, she said Ray told them “Frank can’t drive”.
....
Lia Harris@LiaJHarris·17m
Ms Porter is asked about the conversation with nurse Renee Jenner in Ray’s room. She told the court they told Ray not to talk about “the little boy” because it upset him and that “Ray was only a few days away from death and very confused and muddled and very ill”.
Yes thank you. I thought it may have been RP’s sister because she was announced as Ms Porter and not Mrs Porter. Thanks Deugirtni

My thoughts on the inquest closing for Coronavirus

It's all about social distancing and minimising spread. Taree is a regional town and holding the inquest there means bringing people from other areas, especially the city, into one place. The less people moving around from region to region the less spread there will be.

This is why I followed the advice and didn't attend this week.

@LiaJHarris

Counsel Assisting Gerard Craddock SC told the court despite the adjournment, “the police investigation is continuing, is going to continue, there’s no halt to that”. The Coroner also told the court “there’s nothing in relation to this matter which I consider to be a cold case”.

@LiaJHarris

Craddock also told the court “as a consequence of evidence we have called here, there has already been a witness who we had no idea about who has come forward and will be speaking to police”.
I wonder why a witness would come forward at this point? Surely the information out there about William has been sufficient to prompt any witnesses much earlier than now. There must be information made public during the inquest that has prompted this witness? IMO

There’s been a lot about William and family and other poi’s but nothing until recently about the new poi’s that have been now spoken about far and wide in the media which could’ve flagged an incident or conversation they hadn’t thought into much previously. Or perhaps another inmate? Someone 300km north? There’s been tons of new names and places and cars spoken about, especially in the past 2 weeks. MOO

Yes all excellent points.

Gosh I hope the new witness is the key to a major breakthrough.

Yes I agree, first time some of these faces have been public. Someone may have seen something without even realising up until now. For instance 2 men in a boat looking dodgy that they thought nothing of at the time but with seeing these faces alarm bells have gone off in their mind ( purely an example)

With regards to the closure of the inquest:

Mason Lee inquest closed to public due to coronavirus

An inquest exploring the death of toddler Mason Jet Lee has moved behind closed doors amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
Witnesses and lawyers will now provide written submissions about the 21-month-old's death after the Queensland Coroners Court adjourned the proceedings.
"Due to concerns about COVID-19 and in order to limit the transmission to legal parties, witnesses and members in the public gallery it was decided that no further oral evidence be heard in open court," magistrate Jane Bentley said in a statement today.
