Found Deceased AZ - Benjamin Anderson, 41, Car found burned, Phoenix, 31 Dec 2021

Ben Anderson, the deceased, was not employed in Ethics and Compliance; his friend DS, who publicized his disappearance and led the search for Ben, is in that field. Ben's job title was "Executive Concierge Manager" and he was employed by PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
What exactly would Ben do?

SO, to reset....
Sheriff Office (not Phoenix PD) finds body at some point Dec. 31, attempts to start IDing body but in all likelihood doesn't post incident across to other Departments in Valley. Finally on the 2nd as the missing person is highlighted; the lightbulb goes off with Sheriff staff. (IMO Ben had no ID on him and at the time of discovery no active missing person bulletin entry (NCIC, NAMUS).

Possibilities: Home invasion; pickup from night before; hook up that morning; work or personal conflict (that DS may be texting BA about). Relationships?

Homicide that day with trip north to dump body. In his car or different vehicle?
His vehicle at some point prior to 9:25 pm is in Super 8 lot. Lexus Locates.
1) Left at Super 8 by Ben, perpetrator(s), or the 3 seen at Sheraton? Are the 3 seen the perpetrators of the homicide?
2) If not left by Ben, was the Super 8 just a stop by perpetrators before moving on to Sheraton and leaving it there? OR
2) Was Vehicle jacked and moved from Super 8 to Sheraton by the 3 seen at Sheraton and NOT the perpetrator(s). Or simply jacked from the Sheraton garage?

The burning seems to be done by the 3 after the brush with the friends. From Daily Beast article “We’d been on the Citizen app, but completely missed that somebody had uploaded a video of the car burning at 1:58 in the morning,” said Stahoviak. “The Fire Department put it out and then they left. The doors were melted, it looked like an accelerant was used.”

That would indicate involvement in a more serious crime then just car-jacking as indicated above by many on the thread.

Whew....

BTW Sheriff's Office will now take the lead on this crime since body was in their jurisdiction. Getting video from Super 8 is key and I was told it was not done by 10:30am 1/2/2022. The caveat is that staff who told me that did not work the weekend and may be unaware that it had been turned over already.

Updated map to show rough body area location based on reporting description.

Based on the many reviews for that Super 8, it’s likely the staff is very aware of the activities there. It’s possible the staff is complicit in the illegal activities taking place there. Many reviewers say they were met with indifference and sometimes hostility when trying to report big issues. I will be surprised if they provide any video, but I sure hope they do!

What exactly would Ben do?

My understanding is that the position involves managing a number of executive assistants. Like, Ben may have had a number of people, each employed as an executive assistant to one or more executives, and his duties would probably entail making sure those executives’ needs/preferences were being fulfilled by their EAs, and maybe intervening when an EA wasn’t performing to standard.

Here’s a job description from a current posting: The Executive Concierge team plays a vital role in developing and maintaining relationships with our C-level communities with a focus on reducing attendee attrition, driving attendee engagement, while delivering a seamless registration and white glove onsite experience. The Executive Concierge Manager is responsible for developing, mentoring, and leading members of the Executive Concierge team in all aspects of concierge service delivery and onsite registration to ensure quality and service excellence and deeper attendee engagement.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development of the Executive Concierge team while modeling leadership behaviors in-line with [employer’s]
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and execution of concierge service delivery and standards
  • Create and lead best practices in design, execution, process and delivery of onsite registration experience
  • Lead team in establishing and executing team outbound call/email campaign strategies, goals, and metrics to help drive education, value and reduce attendee attrition
  • Evaluate, anticipate, and propose areas of continuous improvement of team processes in order to promote agility, maximize efficiency, and sustainability
  • Build collaborative relationships with Operations, Sales, Content, and other key stakeholders across the organization to successfully execute upon the companies jointly shared objectives
  • Regularly join team member on calls and onsite in order to coach and assess individual and team performance
  • Develop and maintain consistent team reporting, registration trends, and overall analysis across the business
  • Manage and communicate budget costs and impact, as it relates to items, platforms and resources needed for short and long-term team success
  • Participate in setting annual team goals and objectives, deliver annual performance and compensation reviews to direct reports, appropriately manage individual performance issues when necessary
  • Oversight of development and execution of departmental training materials and playbooks for key initiatives
  • Support the success of the Sr. Executive Concierge in moving forward and executing key projects and initiatives
  • Oversee the development of resource materials and provide visibility, education and communication about programs to internal stakeholders as needed
  • Establish and maintain Portfolio Manager relationships to foster increased collaboration within territories
  • Schedule and facilitate all trainings for anyone traveling as registration for each assigned event

Thank you. I wanted to understand what type of people he would encounter at work and type of conflict he could potentially have. The text he shared with his friend that morning caught my attention - maybe nothing, but I wish I knew more details.

Per MCSO's Facebook page (Log into Facebook | Facebook) by the time his body was discovered on 12/31, he had already been reported as a missing person. Assuming that the timeline from @KellyConQueso is accurate, MCSO must have found Ben's body after 7:30 P.M. on 12/31 (that's when his friends called Phoenix PD to report him missing) and before midnight.

This article gives the time that MCSO found him. It was around 1:40 pm.

Hello everyone - This is my first time on this website and I specifically joined as I took interest in Ben Anderson’s story. I read through the entire chain of comments and I must say you are all amazing and genuinely nice, caring human beings for having such compassion and care for another human being. I was sad to read about Ben’s body being found. After reading through all the messages, here is my opinion on what may have happened:

Theory 1: Ben was tired after a long drive night before, went on a hookup website like doublelist or something. Perhaps Grindr. Started communicating with a stranger who said he would come over to give him a massage. Ben called his friend and canceled his plans. Took a shower and got ready for his hookup. A towel was used during the massage with oil or lotion etc. During/ after the massage, it proceeded into sex and either through poppers or some other drugs Ben passed away. Or maybe they got into BDSM or torture type stuff and accidentally Ben was choked and he died. The guy panicked, dressed him up in some clothes (hence clothes strewn on the floor) and took Ben’s body to his car to dump his body. Given the body weighed 250 pounds, he called two other friends who came in a car and drove away, dumped his body and came back to pack and parked Ben’s car at the Sheraton with the plan to flee after New Year’s eve. But they got caught by Ben’s friends, had the car chase and decided to torch the car and fled away.

Theory 2: Maybe Ben was asked to go visit Super 8 for a hook up. Ben was careful not to reveal his identity to the guy he was hooking up with so he left his credit cards in a rush. Just took some cash. And there, again during rough sex or some poppers/ drugs he died. And they took his body out of the city and returned to clean the room/ pack their stuff and got caught in the car.

Other observations:

1. how many women are 5’11 tall? It could be a guy dressed in drag with a pink beanie.

2. The oil/ cream in the towel along with the water resulted in it staying wet from approx 12 noon (assuming thats when Ben was alive to 7 pm).

3. it’s possible that after dumping Ben’s body, the killer came back to the apartment because he left something in a hurry, wanted to remove DNA evidence so wet the towel and cleaned something up (maybe blood marks from Ben or his own?)

Thoughts?

I would hope by now, LE have an idea as to how Ben died. If there were no visible signs of violence then I guess we will have to wait for the tox report. I'd also like to know whether or not Ben's body had started the process of rigor. If he was found at 1:40 pm that is almost 6 hours after the actual call and almost 5 after the text. Rigor usually sets in between 2 and 6 hours after death. It starts in the smallest muscles like the eyelids and facial muscles then goes through the body systematically until the largest muscles are in full rigor. The process reverses itself from large to small muscles until the body is completely flaccid and decomp occurs.

The temperature that day in Phoenix started in the low fifties and reached about 63 degrees by 1 pm. Those temperatures could possibly slow rigor. Weight also affects how quickly rigor occurs, the heavier the person the slower rigor occurs. Based on those two factors it's possible rigor had not yet occurred.

It would be nice to know if DS had any indication as to the frame of mind that BA had on the call where he canceled his plans for brunch.

I suppose it's possible that BA had a guest with him when he first entered his apartment but maybe after having a shower he was surprised to find two other people there too. But I also wonder if he didn't actually make it back to his apartment at all, that he was kept somewhere else while the perps, maybe just the female, entered his apartment looking for stuff. He could have given them all sorts of wrong info so they couldn't access his accounts or his computer so they killed him and took the car.

If they knew his body would get found fairly quickly they were probably freaking out about having the car. Maybe that's why they were in the parking garage figuring out what the plan was. Keeping the car might have seemed like a good idea at the time, but once they realized someone was onto them they torched it.

I don't know if that was because they were hiding their DNA and fingerprints or to erase evidence of a murder in the vehicle.

Official job descriptions don't really accurately describe true nature of certain kinds of jobs and as I already posted, perhaps too subtly, I am very suspicious of this upstate visit and the trouble at work Ben was having.

@AhavaKhatool and @JJ Ray could you help us out here with a real-language explanation of the sort of problems an "Executive Concierge Manager" might encounter? I feel like this is a position that might put someone in the middle of resolving disputes between very powerful people as in "This executive's assistant is delivering this version of events and this other executive's assistant is delivering this other version of events and it is my job to combine those reports into a single report to pass on to higher level executives who will make a decision based largely on that report" am I guessing correctly?

Just out of curiosity, what is leading you to have suspicions about his employment? I’ve been hearing this a lot on here but cannot wrap my head around it. BA was a middle-manager at PWC. It’s not like he was engaged in organized crime or working in an industry rife with danger.

I agree. Let me shed some light and settle the suspicion on work related stuff. There are no reports that BA was producing etc.

He managed a team of executive assistants. These EAs supported various Partners and leaders at PwC with managing their calendars, booking travel, ordering supplies, etc. BA made sure that the EAs were providing quality support and if there was any issues with quality etc. he would make sure the EA is replaced or trained etc. It was a straightforward people management job.

My research indicated same, see post #163. Previous poster confused Daniel, the friend's job, with Ben's job. In my HR days for Glendale, Scottsdale and Maricopa County we used to call these Executive Administrative Mgrs. ...headed up top elected and dept. head officials secretarial staffs....

ALL: They are aware. I went back over today (1/5) and they couldn't be more annoyed / indifferent to me snooping around. Homeless obviously camp out in back of parking lot and in an alley to the north of the abandoned hotel just to the north. They just keep their head down and take the money....Until MCSO shows up and probably even then, they are a "I know nothing" staff.

To which, here is the link to the "tips" page. Scroll to bottom for a form or get the number. You never know how cooperative these departments are or are not. And were the officers/Detectives who showed up at the Sheraton at 12:25 even aware that other officers had been dispatched to Super 8 earlier? If not, that would not be in their preliminary report when they got the video from Sheraton. Hand-offs of info are always a weak link in any process. I left a tip last night about the Super 8 because this weeks staff was not aware of ANY PD stopping by.

Hello! Good afternoon! My friends and family always tease me that I should have been a detective. I think I’m just observant and perceptive. I do enjoy the research aspect and wish there was a way to help gather information for anyone in need.
I too joined this site after taking interest in this case. I was very apprehensive to do so because I wasn’t sure what it was but I totally agree with you!! I have been so pleasantly surprised by the genuine compassion and respect I have seen!

I'm leaning toward #2 but I just haven't heard enough about his lifestyle from friends - only they would now if he's active on Grindr or such.

Not sure oil or cream on towel was in MSM but if so and I missed, that could be a solo pleasure act.

Body found at 1:46pm, which let's say it was there a minimum of 30 minutes and a minimum of 30 minutes drive time up to New River body location, leaves a 12:30-12:45 max time last alive and a min time of roughly 8:30 or 9:00 (phone off). Something definitely happened in the AM.

Not sure anyone would ever return to apt. if it happened there.

Hopefully MCSO will contact neighbors and ask about vehicles, UBERs, etc. that morning. A lot of older folks still live there from raising families in the 80s.

I resisted the Transgender angle (my wife is 6' blonde swede and she is sensitive.) and actually deleted 2 draft posts last night that dealt with the possibility. From what I saw at the Super 8 on Monday AND the fact I actually saw a transgender on Monday AM when checking out the corner near his apt. at 7th St. and Maryland AND the fact I lived in North Phoenix for 20 years, it is certainly a possibility. (I thought that my sighting Monday might be having had some type of recency effect on this notion.) And one last thought, in my experience with Gay friends they are pretty quick (even from a distance) to ID woman vs. transgender. But the lighting in that garage I doubt is very bright.

I am in the NO CONFLICT at work camp. May have heard things up in C-Suite setting but it doesn't feel like a "whistle-blower" type situation IMOO.

PWC’s job description for Executive Concierge — public-facing

Executive Concierge at PwC
People who interact with C-Suite level are upper managers themselves or high-end clients of PWC (corporate level contract administrators or Finance CFOs). They would simply express themselves to the Executive (or Executives) any displeasure with Ben. It would be handled above Ben. If you have different insight please elaborate. The only possible conflict might be where he has overheard something illegal or PWC unethical. But all these firms have confidential avenues to address that Ben IMO would pursue. "Whistle Blower" just doesn't ring true IMOO.

I too joined this site after taking interest in this case. I was very apprehensive to do so because I wasn’t sure what it was but I totally agree with you!! I have been so pleasantly surprised by the genuine compassion and respect I have seen!
With that being said, I wanted to see if anyone had any information about the following:
From Reddit
-a “friend of a friend”of Bens said that the Bens parents were keeping Bens dog while he was away. He was supposed to pick up the dog and never came.
-Ben was supposed to pick up a prescription for his parents and never did and the pharmacy called them to let them know it hadn’t been picked up.
Lastly, I live on the east coast and am not familiar with the Phoenix area. Could anyone give me an idea of who might have been in the area where he was found? I feel like the body was discovered quickly if the timelines are correct.

Welcome!
Primarily on WS we try to stay away from gossip and cite main stream media (MSM) and what is actually known. Limits on social media sharing as well. If individuals have direct knowledge of areas or surroundings they of course can offer those. I have looked at Twitter and Reedit (in relationship to Daniel Robinson case which I have been much more involved in) and don't know how any real info sharing can occur. Some talented people in "outing" sources/but not a lot of in-depth and like you say compassionate analysis.

The key portion on time line (which I will link) is body was found at 1:45. From MSM, He was supposed to help an Aunt with a DYI home improvement project that day. She became suspicious and started calling around at 6:00PM. So dog not being picked up or drug not being pickup are certainly in line but not relevant as neither of those had specific times arranged to occur (it doesn't sound like). Dog left with parents was more than likely because (according to MSM) media he had been up north visiting friends the day before.

New River is sparsely populated desert area. Populated but unincorporated Maricopa County (hence Sheriff's Office is taking lead). But I think the spot was not far off the I-17. Here are links to my map showing key locations and a video showing key locations (other than his apt. building).

A couple of follow up thoughts and questions…
From the attached video…
The man interviewed in this video is a neighbor and said that nothing nefarious happens there but said maybe he was car jacked going to a store or Starbucks. If the pharmacy story is true, I wonder what pharmacy he was supposed to pick medicine up from for his parents? Maybe he was carjacked from there?
-It looks like his condo had a garage. IMO the only way I could possibly see how the murder could have happened at home, would be if the car was in the garage. I can’t see how a body of his size could be carried out and put in a compact car in the morning without someone seeing something!?!
-Originally from the Citizens app video of the car burning that Daniel shared I wondered if anyone saw anything from the houses you could see in the background but if this video is correct, would it have been the SpringHill suits in the background or both? With it being NYE, you would think the likelihood of people being awake would be greater.
Any thoughts/information on this?

This podcast has an interview with Ben's friend's Daniel and Susan and answers many of the questions posted on this thread.

True Crime Arizona Podcast: The strange & grisly death of Benjamin Anderson

I have messaged Daniel a link to this thread as well in hopes that he or someone else who knew Ben well could answer questions but they are mourning right now so I don't know when/if that will happen.

I went to high school with Ben and only talked to him a few times so I didn't really know him but seeing how well loved he is by so many makes me wish I had known him better.

Thank you all for trying to help. I am rooting for you all to find the missing piece that allows the people who loved him to find the individuals involved so hopefully they can find closure.
