I have only read a little about Maribel's case since last night after hearing about the link to Isabel Celis. It seems possible (again speculative) that this man was exploiting her or at least moving in her circle? Perhaps if men around her/connected to her had been picked up at the time of her death, this career criminal could have been put away earlier? And Isabel would still be alive.

I wondered last night if any DNA had been recovered from Maribel's body as she was discovered, thankfully fairly quickly. Presumably Clements' DNA as a sex offender had been in the system a long time? But appears his apprehension is down to a tip to the FBI. And then the pieces were put together, not before.

Here are details about Clements's past convictions according to court records obtained by ABC15:
- On October 20, 1997, Clements was convicted of Sexual Abuse 1st Degree in Multnomah County, OR.
- On November 5, 2002, Clements committed identity theft in King County, WA.
- On September 1, 2006, Clements failed to register as a sex offender in Multnomah County, OR.
- On October 24, 2006, Clements failed to register as a sex offender in Bay County, FL.
- On July 19, 2002, Clements was convicted of assault in King County, WA
- On October 5, 2007, was convicted for false reporting to law enforcement in Pima County.
Charges filed in murders of Isabel Celis and Maribel Gonzales

I hope both of these cases can be resolved now that there's an indictment and someone charged with both murders. These families deserve justice and closure for the loss of their beautiful young daughters. I'm not familiar with the Maribel Gonzales case but followed the Celis case for months. I vacillated from the father, mother, older of the two brothers, male relative as possible suspects. I wasn't certain of a murder but thought there might have been a terrible accident (i.e. slip & fall in shower, hitting head on bathroom floor or tub) in the home that would have made parents, brother, or male relative suspect, so they covered up said accident. Rest in peace, Isabel and Maribel.

TUCSON – A man was indicted Friday in connection to the murders of two young girls – Isabel Celis and Maribel Gonzales.

According to officials, Tucson detectives drove to Phoenix to read 36-year-old Christopher Clements his charges of Friday afternoon in connection to the two murders. Police say he is currently in custody and locked up in Maricopa County in connection to an unrelated burglary and fraud case.

According to the indictment, Clements was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts kidnapping a minor under 15, two counts of second-degree burglary, one count of theft by controlling stolen property, one count of trafficking in stolen property and 14 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Officials say Clements was found guilty of failing to register as a sex offender in the state of Florida. That same year, the 36-year-old was charged with violating a protective order against stalking and telephonic harassment in Oregon.

Clements was then charged for providing false information to law enforcement in 2007. In this case, Clements reportedly gave a false name and date of birth to a Tucson Police Department officer two times. [....].

Man indicted in deaths of Isabel Celis and Maribel Gonzales
By Tucson News Now | September 15, 2018 at 10:08 AM MST - Updated September 15 at 10:46 AM
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Twice in the last six years a young Tucson girl disappeared and ended up dead in a patch of desert in rural Pima County.

Isabel Celis and Maribel Victoria Gonzales didn't share much else in common.

Isabel was 6 years old when vanished from her parents' east-side home in April 2012. Just two years later, a 13-year-old Maribel disappeared while walking to a friend’s house.
Both girls were later found dead near Trico and West Avra Valley roads.

A major indictment announced Saturday, Sept. 15 is bringing their cases together.

TUCSON, Ariz. -
Charges have been filed in the murder of two young girls, Isabel Celis, and Maribel Gonzales, according to Tucson Police investigators.

In a news conference Saturday morning, officials announced 22 charges against 36-year-old Christopher Clemens, including two counts of first degree murder, two counts of kidnapping a minor, two counts of burglary and 14 separate counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Clements is currently in custody in Maricopa County jail on multiple fraud and burglary charges according to online court records.

So many questions: was CC in the ball park stalking victims and did he follow Celis home? Did he know family? Is he responsible for other unsolved crimes?

The perp took that beautiful child from her bed, and out her window without arousing anyone inside/outside the home. So frightening. I recall police chief words when IC remains found and not by happenstance. Somebody knew where this ugly man takes the bodies. Hope he confesses to these crimes and spares the families more grief.

The big break in the cases came in 2017 when the FBI received a tip about a man who might have information about Isabel’s disappearance.

On March 3, 2017, after talking to the man, Christopher Clements, officials were able to find Isabel’s remains.

They were discovered in the same general area where Maribel’s body had been found.

A medical examiner last year ruled Isabel Celis' death as "homicide by unspecified means." A heavily redacted autopsy report did not indicate how she died.

Gonzalez went missing on her way to a friend's house and her body was found days later.

Clements made his first court appearance Saturday morning.

He does not yet have an attorney but will be assigned one at a Sept. 24 arraignment.

Man indicted on murder charges in kidnapping and deaths of two young Arizona girls

Gonzales’ body was discovered in June 2014 in the Avra Valley community near Tucson.

Authorities did not immediately say what prompted Clements’ arrest but said he provided information in 2017 that led to the discovery of Celis’ remains.

Records showed Clements had a few addresses in Tucson between 2007 and 2012. One of the addresses included an apartment about 2 miles from Celis’ home, KVOA reported.

KOLD reported Clements was slated to be extradited to Tucson from the Maricopa County Jail.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

YES. Those are many of the same pressing questions I have too. Did he see her at the game? Had he already been stalking her?

Very bold of him to enter a home with a father/mother and brothers inside also. How did he know he could pull that off?

Sounds like he made himself the prime suspect in 2017 by telling the FBI where the body was. Wow.

He should have never even been on the street with his history. Absolutely disgusting, so senseless.
