Just read they've been found deceased in Chan Chen village. I can't remember which Facebook page I saw this on in order to post the link. Anyone else see it? Help!

Edit: Found it but the post was removed. Sorry folks. I jumped the gun.

Not a surprise! With both a Canadian and a USA victim, hopefully an investigation will lead to an arrest.

I don't know how to link this but there is a new post on a Facebook page called Corozal Living that says the couple has been found deceased. Very sad news.

Assuming the body discovery is true, my guess is that someone carjacked them when they left the restaurant, drove them to Chan Chen, killed them, drove back to Corozal, tried to hide the vehicle in a sugar cane field on the North end of the city, and went home.

Maybe just a rumour. Hoping it's a rumour.

I think it's a leak, just like the discovery of the vehicle was leaked hours before other news outlets could confirm and report on it.

By BBN Staff: Confirmed reports to BBN is that the bodies of Canadian national, Francesca Matus, and American national Drew Devoursney were found today by a search party.

The bodies were found in an area in Chan Chen Village in the Corozal District this evening around 5.

The couple was reported missing on Wednesday when their friend, American national Joseph Milholen, went to pick up Matus to drop her off at the Philip Goldson International Airport.

Milholen reported that he called her several times but to no avail.

Milholen also called Devoursney but received no response.

Since Wednesday, the police and volunteers had organized search parties and yesterday the white Isuzu rodeo was found abandoned in a cane field in the village of Paraiso in the Corozal district.

While it is suspected that the couple was murdered, the Belize Police Department has not yet released an official report.

Not surprising that they suspect homicide, but this is definitely not the news we wanted to hear. I'll still wait for further validation, on the off chance that this was based on the original posting on the CorozolLiving FB page, but there are no shortage of comments on the Breaking Belize News article.

Sad sad sad. I had so hoped it would turn out differently.

Here is the link to the BNN FB page. Lots of comments, but most are about: what a tragedy...why would anyone do this?....gives Belize a black eye in the international community....will hurt tourism, a critical part of the economy.

Wonder why the bodies weren't found with the vehicle? 'Appears to be just a few minutes more of traveling from Paraiso to Chan Chen. Puzzling.

Not unexpected, but terribly sad news.

Belize police have not yet issued an official report listing cause of death, Breaking Belize News reports.

Nancy Rifenbark, a friend of the couple, confirmed the discovery to Global News Monday evening.
“They were both found…They are dead,” she said via Facebook.

So sad to hear this news :(

There is always a risk of investing and retiring/living in these third world countries. Sounds like Belize has a lot of criminal problems that won't be getting better any time soon. I am betting that this is a criminal event and that it will never be solved.

R.I.P. Francesca & Drew :rose:

Very sad news. R.I.P., and thinking of both families.

Just o/t
My Canadian citizen parents have retired and are now living in Nicaragua. They do live in a gated community. We are from there, being away for 30+ years. We still need to be careful, since the misery driven criminality is full force.

Also puzzling, the keys and car registration were missing from the car..

“There’s very little evidence, almost nothing to even give us a clue as to what might have happened … even the registration was gone and the keys were gone, so nothing really to tell us anything,”

Heartbreaking! 😢
