So many murders in Belize involve a machete ... I sure hope they were spared that type of attack ... but sugar cane field for vehicle and bodies ... machetes are used with sugar cane.

Wonder why the bodies weren't found with the vehicle? 'Appears to be just a few minutes more of traveling from Paraiso to Chan Chen. Puzzling.

Also puzzling, the keys and car registration were missing from the car..

How much money could they have in them? They had their house keys, and yet the thief(ves)/kidnapper(s)/murder(s) didn't go to their houses, and they were not after the car neither. Makes me wonder if this was a robbery and if they knew the attacker(s).

I too think there is something more to this. The timing of Francesca leaving the next day suggests the possibility that the attacker(s) thought she would not be missed, that people would assume she left the country. It may not have been known that he was leaving the following week.

Money, passports were left at her home, and the car was abandoned, so it doesn't seem like a robbery, or it was a robbery for a handful of change - which is pointless. If their lives were threatened, surely they would have offered the money that was at her house.

Was there another boyfriend before Drew? Jealousy?

Not 100% sure about the home location, but I think it is correct.

According to the Corozol Daily FB - if you look at the comments there is mention of a flat rear driver-side tire and other observations of the driver's side of the vehicle, which I won't post here.

Are you talking about a page or a group?

'Noticed a comment on the Corozal Daily FB page linked by Hazel (above) which mentions murder/s in Consejo. I did a quick search... and I'm wondering if this 2013 murder is still unsolved:

It's been labeled a "home invasion", but perhaps there was a different motive. It's interesting that's another successful, conscientious Canadian woman in the same age group with a boyfriend from the USA.

Read the last update on the linked in your article. His Marine buddies are pissed and are not going to allow the Belize police to let this go.

I hope these murders are not forgotten like so many others in Belize.

A very sad outcome.
I hope LE catches and punishes whoever is responsible
I will wait and see.

What would be the motive? Robbery?

The murdered Canadian woman,Patricia Lynn Nichiporowich, was also due to leave Belize.

Det. Zamir Noh, of the Belize Police Department, says autopsies are being conducted on the bodies of Francesca Matus, 52, and Drew DeVoursney, 36, from Georgia, after they were found Monday afternoon in a sugar cane field in the Corozal district.

DeVoursney’s mother says the American embassy told her that the pair were found with duct tape wrapped around their wrists.

‘They had a lot of money’: Canadian and her U.S. boyfriend ambushed in robbery turned double-murder
“Both bodies were found together in some bushes and were starting to decompose by the time they were found.”
The cause of death seems to be stabbing or shooting but decomposition makes it difficult to say without an autopsy, the police official said, but there were obvious signs of trauma.
“We believe they had a lot of money in their possession and someone tried to rob them.”
