BP Oil Spill Approaching Gulf Coast

Oh, I wasn't insinuating that my son knew everything. The company he works for has some geologists and without going into too much detail deals with things like this. He was only going by what he knows.

Thanks for the link. Very interesting.

I hope your son and his company are looking into solutions to these problems. I don't even have grandchildren yet and I'm worried about their future, if that makes any sense. The thing that bothers me is we know so little about the ocean but yet we just start digging holes. The sun and wind are great power sources but people are so afraid of change. I like to use Michael Jackson because his words are so powerful. IF YOU WANT TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE JUST LOOK AT YOURSELF AND MAKE THAT CHANGE.

ITA - it is very strange with all these earthquakes and in places we never see them.

DH and I were talking and are wondering where all this "pressure" from this cap (and well) is going. Is there a "relief valve" for the pressure that will build from the methane? How are they relieving this pressure and there has to be pressure, right?

Definitely agree - these are scary times - especially if you live in one of the 5 border states.

Wise Old Owl I think the cap has pressure relief valves on it. This is what I found. They are totally guessing right now. I wonder if they are checking the other wells in the area for pressure change?

The vice-president, Kent Wells, said pressure was holding up inside the cap, indicating that oil was being successfully contained under the 75-tonne device. Valves on the cap were shut late yesterday and pressure will be tested regularly over the next 36 hours. A fall in pressure would indicate another leak.

Oil Expert Cavnar: “They know this well can’t be shut in for a long period of time” (VIDEO)
<snipped>
MSNBC: Is it any clearer to you today than yesterday about why this sequence occurred in the way it has? The tests and the suspension initially of the tests and the resumption, and the tests were going to be six-hour intervals and then shut off? It sounded more than ? a little ad-hoc.

CAVNAR: It’s clearly been on the fly. there’s a lot more discussion behind the scenes obviously with the government and bp team than what they’re disclosing to the public. What i’ve learned in this whole experience, if you get a long on period of silence, something’s going on. I think that’s a lot of what happened today. Plus, they’ve had the leaks in the stack they’ve had to fix.

BP: Well pressure tests could extend beyond 48 hours
<snipped>
The latest pressure reading inside the well was 6,745 psi (pounds per square inch), Wells said. That falls short of the optimal 8,000 to 9,000 psi needed in order to conclude without doubt the well is not leaking.

Retired Adm. Thad Allen, the government's response manager, said Friday that the rising pressure readings were generally good news.

But he added, "I think we're at a point where there's enough uncertainty about the meaning of the pressure that we're seeing that we have to use due diligence moving forward. We don't want to do harm or create a situation that cannot be reversed."

"What we're really looking for is methane bubbles" with newly arrived sonar devices says Thad Allen
Thad Allen interview on Washington Journal, C-SPAN, July 18, 2010:

C-SPAN: The Joint Information Center says that a NOAA sonar ship has been brought to the site to monitor the entire sea floor around the well... Are you concerned about leaks coming up in other places around that?

THAD ALLEN: That's exactly what I was referring to...

What we don't want to cause irreversible damage to the sea floor that may cause oil to come to the surface.

For that reason we've brought in a NOAA boat called the Pisces which has very very fine sensing devices...

In fact what we're really looking for is methane bubbles that might be coming up from the floor of the sea in advance of any leakage of hydrocarbons.

That's together with the seismic vessels... and all manner of devices...

The minute we think anything anomalous going on or we have a breach of the seafloor we'll probably vent the well.

Official: Seep found near BP's blown out oil well

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A federal official said Sunday that scientists are concerned about a seep and possible methane seen near BP's busted oil well in the Gulf of Mexico.

Both could be signs there are leaks in the well that's been capped off for three days.

The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday because an announcement about the next steps had not yet been made.

The official is familiar with the spill oversight but would not clarify what is seeping near the well. The official said BP is not complying with the government's demand for more monitoring. BP spokesman Mark Salt declined to comment on the allegation, but said "we continue to work very closely with all government scientists on this."

I hope this isn't something we will regret.

Late Sunday, Allen said something was detected seeping near the broken oil well and demanded in a sharply worded letter that BP step up monitoring of the ocean floor. Allen didn't say what was seeping. White House energy adviser Carol Browner told the CBS "Early Show" seepage was found less than two miles from the well site.

MOBILE, Alabama - More than a week has passed since Alabama's beaches have seen significant oil, and despite warnings along the Gulf Coast, some swimmers are taking their chances.

News Five collected samples of water and sand from Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, Katrina Key and Dauphin Island. To our eyes, the samples appeared normal, until we took them to a local lab to be tested.

Matt Simmons has been saying for a long time that there is a leak apart from the well that needs to be addressed. Hopefully, something will be done (if something can be done) to fix the problems on the sea floor! It's time for BP and our government to give the people some truth on this situation!:twocents:

Oil spill media blackout hides worse spill from BP’s third ignored oil leak

<snipped>
While everyone has been focused on what BP puts in front of the camera, the third oil leak, which was admitted to by BP months ago, is being ignored in the oil spill media blackout.

For those who may have forgotten: On May 5, 2010, The Washington Post reported: “BP caps one of three oil leaks in gulf.”

The Huffington Post concurred: “NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- The Coast Guard says BP has managed to cap one of three leaks at a Deepwater oil well..”

So the first leak was confirmed capped, we are all watching the second leak on live videos provided by BP. What has become of the third oil leak?

Back in May, oil industry expert Matt Simmons told MSNBC “All that oil didn’t come from that little dinky hole,” referring to the video flow from the BOP. He went on to explain his theory of the “elephant behind the mouse.”

This video is alittle hard to view -but it shows where the cameras locations are coming from and something is very hinky in what is being told to the public! IMO

BP caught using altered image of command center
<snipped>
The photo flap inspired the usually staid Washington Post to quip, "Apparently BP is no more adept at doctoring photos than it is at plugging deep-sea oil leaks."

BP spokesman Scott Dean told the Post's Steven Mufson that there was no diabolical plot to photographically beef up the company's command center. Rather, he said, a BP photographer with completely benign intentions just slipped the images in.

have absolutely NO knowledge to give............
