Question...WHY is there so much focus on the 1/2 sister here??? We don't sleuth innocent family members, and I have yet to hear of any "crimes" she may or may not have committed.

BSL is the one and only criminal here AFAIK. Can peeps just leave it alone/get past it? TIA

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one feeling like this. With as many LE agencies involved between Texas and Louisiana, I'm sure that if any one of them felt that what she did was a crime she would have been arrested. But since she has not been charged with anything, she should be left alone. She helped bring BSL down and that's all that should matter!!!

I don't know about any of you but we are outsiders and boy have we all been on one heck of a roller coaster ride, can you all imagine the parties that directly involved in this case how they must feel? I feel as though I need an IV drip and sleep for a week or more. The emotions I went through! We are all going through the same emotions as one would go through when grieving because we are!

That is the down side of attaching oneself to any case here! This case I can say is unusual in that it was fast, and a lot of our questions have and are being answered. Not all but a big chunk are. When you think of all the cases on this forum that doesn't have much info at all but the basic information. TO have a case closed so soon quiet frankly has put me back. I'm starting to not trust a lot of it. Is this because I'm not use to a case being closed so soon? It seems so scripted...Helps the family move on, puts the guilty away, LE has satisfaction, and the community can rest. Why then do i have pause that I or We have been spoon fed not the whole truth?

It must be just me...part of the grieving process still. I must move on.

Mickey's case was solved quickly, thank God. There were a couple of times along the way when it looked like it might go cold though. I'm thrilled for the families that this did not drag on for years-well for Lisa's it did :(.
I don't think we know about all of the evidence, however in time we might know more. If we don't it's ok with me. The most important thing was getting Mickey home then as lagniappe, Lisa's case was closed too. Lisa's family had a memorial on Friday and Mickey's family will be able to say their goodbyes soon.
This is a departure in attitude for me because I'm an insatiable reader and want to know things. When I come across something I don't know or understand, I look it up. There are things about these cases that I might never know but I'm ok because the cases are closed.

Sorry I have not read all the posts..So much catch up to do

Why did BSL go for Mickey in the first place??? Just to kill her and dump her body and the fields??? Why??????????

Surely there must be more motive

Lera, I think you are right about us sort of being catapulted through a whole range of emotions by the (relatively speaking) rapid movement of this case. And when you think of it, first we had that long "dry" spell, when LE was saying little, Mickey had not been found, there was little to do but speculate and talk about the DWT, etc. -- then, wham, so much happened so quickly. And such sadness, relief, anger, near-disbelief -- all mingling. No wonder a lot of us have been maybe a wee bit "touchy" (or so it seems to me), me included.

I was thinking just last night as I went to sleep about how the Shunicks might feel, with the resolution, if you want to call it that, coming quickly. I know they must be reeling -- it must still seem almost surreal that Mickey is gone, and yet here is her confessed killer already in prison for life.

Brandon's family has also been plunged through a rapid-speed nightmare, I feel. I can't imagine how they are coping, either.

For the Pate family -- well, it's different. Sure can't say it all came quickly -- but the events of recent weeks have. I'm sure some part-healed wounds were opened for them -- but now maybe any future healing can be more real and complete.

I don't necessarily feel the "we've not gotten the real truth" thing -- but I do find myself with lots of questions. The answers to some of them are probably not a bit of my business -- but sometimes, when I have become so emotionally invested in a case, I feel an intense desire to know.

This is only the second case I've followed really tightly on WS (my 2006 join date is deceptive -- I've really only been active on WS for a little more than a year); the other is still pending trial. But I have less intensely followed a couple of others that "resolved" quickly, with some real shockers -- and they, too, were jarring.

That's better..... Lera, I was going over some of your old posts from June and I must say I'm in awe at how spot on some of your hunches were about this case. You had specific small details correct and I'm fascinated to go back and read older posts, knowing now what we didn't know then. You are definitely an asset to this site and based on your amount of posts, it's safe to assume you'll be here a long time to come for future unfortunate cases. Hats off to you. Mad respect.

Apparently he was looking for a woman that night, and there she was...LE said he was calling escort services as he drove around.

Don't know how you have found time to go back & read, whatsthatnoise...
I can barely keep up...2 other forums & FB chats..
Sure has been a roller coaster ride at times...

I thought Chief Craft answered the journalist's question well when asked about BSL's motive for the abduction,

'He's a registered tier 3 Sex Offender'...

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I have found it offensive. She has been through enough! She cooperated FULLY with LE from the beginning. Sounds like she is the reason for helping find Mighty Mick, the truck, and getting this evil, murdering "person" off the streets forever! Her family member has stressed how much pain she is in, how difficult it is for her, and has asked us to back off her during this time. The 1/2 sister is NOT charged with a crime and is therefore off-limits at WS, if I have read the TOS correctly.

Maybe people need to take a step back and ask themselves, is this what Mickey and her family would like right now...taking the focus off Mighty Mick, her beloved memory, and her unbelievable strength? I highly doubt it. They wanted Mickey HOME!!!! She is home because of all the people who cooperated, told the truth, and HELPED this family bring their beloved daughter, sister, friend and loved one HOME!

Let's all follow the example of the Shunicks, follow their lead of having a ton of class, and blaming the one who did this to Mighty Mick! Please also remember that Mickey's family, does not ever want her to be remembered as a victim. I believe this was her mother's request.

JMO.

I wonder if they were able to determine that he called escort services from his cell phone records, or if he volunteered that information? Again, a small detail that has little bearing in the grand scheme of things. I guess I just wonder if it was phone records and if that report also had his pings. I hope they had pings, call details, and onstar report that would validate his confession. Surely LE would be armed with this info before allowing a plea deal?

It is always amazing to me how we are each drawn to the details, which details makes us all so different. I will never understand the shark people. (that's how bsl and others like him rest in my head, as though they were sharks who instead of swim in the ocean walk amongst us. Same predatory disregard for what they destroy to satisfy their need.)

For me it is difficult to remain sane while examining the insane. It screams a world of 'what ifs' and 'whys' that can become deafening so there is a need to detach. And I do, I step away for a year at a time, swearing I will never do this again.

And you see another angelic face, Mickey Shunick's perfect, angelic face and it begins again. Then you uncover the truth that this young woman fought hard for her life and left scars on the shark for the world to see...and it begins again.

My hat is off to the Foxfires, Chicken Frieds and the Bessie's of this world. You are strong, relentless, filled with heart, a much stronger heart than I harbor. Thank you to the people who face this battle daily and still take time to comfort others even when you know humanity leaves much to be desired. The MamaRoux's who remind us there is a greater Power and to pray instead of throw the stones.

In truth, WS provides us a place to remember there are wonderful people on this Earth who donate their wisdom and efforts for those who have lost their voice. God bless you all, to name each of you would make this babble even longer.

And to the Mickey Shunicks of this world, thank you for your courage. Rest in the arms of the angels. God's blessings to your family and to all those who will never stop loving you. And in your name, here is to many of your followers staying here and helping to bring justice to those who have no voice...

I hope I didn't sound harsh. It's my opinion that it's perfectly ok to ask garryb questions, he has been approved as a verified insider. I have read here since the beginning. What I don't think is right, is attacking, assuming and posting that the person who helped put BSL away for life, should be charged with a crime. We are not LE. If they have found, or do find, criminal activity, we will know soon enough. Until then, I don't agree with putting her and her family through any more unneeded stress or heartache. LE did an excellent job with this case, trust them to continue to do the right thing.

What on earth went on here tonight!?!? I can't believe some of things I'm reading.

Personally, I'm staying on this board until this boat has docked. With what I see bsl being capable of, there's a lot more sea to be sailed.

And I plan to help any potential victims to arrive to their families before I give up.

Yes....I do not believe for one second he "let" her stab him again after the first altercation. IMO he shot her after she stabbed him the 1st time... there was no 2nd time she got the knife.
He had the gun for a reason... who leaves a knife laying around to lets someone stab ya on two different occsasions??
He never "thought" she was dead he dad gum KNEW it! The exact moment.
No need to check a pulse.
jmo
REALLY!!! he gave TMI...
She attacked him...WHERE IS THE STRIKETHROUGH???(no he attacked her... she opened up a can o whoop a$$)
then he killed her and ran home...
moo

I am glad you posted this before I did! I also do not think there was a second knife attack, I think she did the damage in one attack. I also don't think she "jumped up and attacked him again" as he is saying. I think she may have woken up or shown some indication she was still alive and he took the quicker way with the gun.

Where are her cell phone records? If she dialed any number for more than a few seconds, there would be record of it.

I believe he added the second knife attack, as well. I think that he did assault her, or attempted to.

He said he wanted to come clean after he saw Charlene on television...Bull. He wanted to be in jail because there are more victims, they will find them and he will say "But I was in jail!". Jailtime is nothing more than a calculated move on his part. Not only does he not get the death penalty, but also if he's found guilty in other crimes, he stays here.

And he also wrote a statement to the Shunick family and "welcomed" them to talk with him? He may only want to admit to Charlene his crimes just to see her squirm.

I wouldn't be surprised at this point.

If there was a second attack, I think that it would be because he tried to sexually assault her.

I don't know how you would search for something like this, but either discovery channel or nat geo did a documentary on the Angola Rodeo. It may have been one of the "hard times" episodes. Funny that this came up because hubby and I were just talking about it this morning. It covereed lots on security measures, inmates trying to obtain contraban, and prisoners selling their crafts to the attending public. Not normally my kind of t.v. (mancave stuff in our house, same as shark week) butit was interesting enough for me to sit through.

Not only does Angola do the rodeos...they also have an Angola prison band. When I was younger and lived in la, we use to go to the fair and there was always one night where the Angola band played. It was always a huge event. They were very good. It was always strange listening to beautiful music and seeing tons of guards everywhere. Anyway, you can look on youtube. There are a few videos posted.

Did he write a letter to the Shunicks? I did not see this, is there a link?

Also, prison will not protect him against any future prosecutions; his deal was limited to Mickey and Lisa's murders.

I do not blame the bio mom in any way...
I want to know how old BSL's mother was when she got pregnant with him...
and then again I don't.

I imagine she was young...
HOPEFULLY 20 something
but that is still young IMO

I don't think there is any relevance between the bio mothers age and BSLs atrocities. Young mothers have been having babies for thousands of years!
