A gunman shot several people near a Navy base in Millington, Tenn., authorities say.

Fox13 reports that an employee of the base was relieved of duty today and is suspected shooting at random people after going to his or her car.

1999 indictment released in JonBenet slaying

DENVER (AP) — A grand jury indictment issued in 1999 in the JonBenet Ramsey investigation will be released Friday, and should shed more light on why prosecutors decided against pursuing charges against the little girl's parents.

The grand jury reviewed evidence against John and Patsy Ramsey three years after the 6-year-old beauty queen's body was found bludgeoned and strangled in their home in Boulder on Dec. 26, 1996. A series of possible charges were considered by grand jurors but it's not clear whether they voted to charge one or both parents.

The Ramseys maintained their innocence, offering a $100,000 reward for the killer and mounting a newspaper campaign seeking evidence.

The district attorney at the time, Alex Hunter, who presented the evidence to the grand jury, declined to pursue charges saying: "I and my prosecutorial team believe we do not have sufficient evidence to warrant the filing of charges against anyone who has been investigated at this time."

Hunter did not return a phone message left Thursday by The Associated Press...

Dr. Conrad Murray left the Los Angeles County jail under sheriff's escort, avoiding reporters and Michael Jackson fans waiting for his release early Monday.

Murray, who served two years of a four-year sentence for causing Michael Jackson's death, was driven away in a sheriff's car for the "safety and security" of the jail, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

The handful of Jackson fans gathered outside the jail accused the Los Angeles County sheriff of showing favoritism to Murray by slipping him out of the jail through a back exit, instead of the door where freed prisoners normally leave...

Rebecca Sedwick Update: Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's attorney, to represent Fla. girl accused of bullying 12-year-old who committed suicide

(CBS) ORLANDO, Fla. - Jose Baez, the attorney best known for representing Casey Anthony, will represent one of the girls accused of bullying Rebecca Sedwick - a 12-year-old Florida girl who committed suicide, CBS affiliate WKMG reports.

Baez, who defended the Florida mother who was acquitted in 2011 of killing her young daughter, told the station he will represent the 12-year-old who is charged with aggravated stalking in the case.

On Sept. 9, authorities say, Sedwick climbed a tower at an abandoned concrete plant and hurled herself to her death.

Third person dies in Detroit barbershop shooting; 7 others wounded

Detroit — A third person has died in a shooting that wounded another seven at a barbershop that police say is known for illegal gambling on the city’s east side.

Sgt. Mike Woody said Thursday that a third person involved in Wednesday’s incident, which occurred about 6:15 p.m. at Al’s Barber Shop in the 5100 block of East Seven Mile, died at a local hospital.

Police say the motive of the shooting was unclear, but it possibly was connected with gambling that occurred at the shop or a debt owed to the shooters. Witnesses said two men barged through the back door with assault rifles and fired off rounds, spraying a crowd of people, including barbers, patrons and others socializing in the shop.

On Wednesday, Police Chief James Craig said “suspects engaged a couple of victims” before “several shots were fired.” He said it’s not known if any of the victims fired back..
