Difficult day of testimony today. GP more alert during coroner’s testimony. Didn't hear coroner's name: synopsis of testimony: Injury to the scalp. Large (right middle portion of the head) area of hemorrhage over the brain. From her head striking the pavement. No skull fractures were observed. The one to her face was more consistent with her being struck, the injury to the side of her scalp I think is more consistent with the fall. Internal injuries abrasions on chest, large contusion on mid-right chest, blood in abdomen and chest, pelvic fractures, multiple lacerations of her liver, lacerations of the mesentery those are the blood vessels that feed your intestines and laceration of her right kidney. More injuries, but unfortunately too many to name. moo

Famed sex therapist Amie Harwick was found outside of her Hollywood Hills home struggling to hold onto life after allegedly being thrown off of a third-story balcony in 2020. Harwick died at a hospital shortly after the fall from blunt force injuries to her head and torso, along with evidence of strangulation. Authorities quickly zeroed in on her ex-boyfriend, Gareth Pursehouse, who had previous restraining orders filed against him by Harwick and was described as a “stalker” by many of the doctor’s friends. Pursehouse now faces trial in a California courtroom for Harwick’s murder. Pursehouse's defense said the defendant admitted to breaking into Harwick's home but did not murder her. They are seeking a not guilty verdict on the murder charge and asking for a lesser charge.

DAILY TRIAL UPDATES

  • Ring video played for the jury of the defendant landing in Harwick’s neighbor’s yard on the night of February 15, 2020.
  • A jailhouse visit video was played for jury in which Pursehouse’s friends visit him. Pursehouse, not seen on video, mentions a restraining order, wanting all his money to go to his brothers, things looking bleak and wanting to write his jokes down but not having things to write with.

Alex Caprariello (AC) expressed in video defense claims there's a lack of discovery being presented to them, every time the state calls a new witness, they’re (defense) learning new information that they didn’t have previously. Defense requested a mistrial. Judge allowed it (calling for mistrial) on the record, and denied it. Also, AC in his opinion considered the jailhouse call video a bombshell.

Gareth Pursehouse is on trial for the murder of ex-girlfriend Amie Harwick. A reconstruction analyst showed the jury a 3D rendering of the alleged crime scene in Harwick's home.

Aug 31, 2023

Dr. Amie Harwick’s roommate testified Wednesday about what he heard and what he did when he realized she was getting attacked inside her Hollywood Hills home in February 2020. “It sounded like Amie’s voice screaming… blood curdling screams… it was just loud,” Michael Herman explained. “I thought she saw a mouse, literally.” Herman allegedly screamed up the stairs to Harwick before he ran to a neighbor’s house for help. Hawrwick's ex-boyfriend, Gareth Pursehouse, is on trial for her murder.

DAILY TRIAL UPDATES

DAY 12 – 9/26/23

  • Prosecutors delivered closing arguments, highlighting that Amie’s death wasn’t a struggle, it was an assault.
  • The defense delivered closing arguments, and said that Gareth Pursehouse was in a genuine emotional crisis, that the nicotine syringe was intended for someone else besides Harwick, that it was possible Harwick preemptively attacked Pursehouse to subdue him and that it was possible she climbed over the balcony railing in an attempt to escape him.
  • In their rebuttal, prosecutors said there was no provocation in this case and that Pursehouse intended to kill Harwick all along.
    • Prosecutors said that Harwick’s injuries did not support her trying to climb down from the balcony, and that the best way for her to escape would have been to run towards the stairs, her roommate and help.

(NewsNation) — Prosecutors held closing arguments in the trial of Gareth Pursehouse.

Pursehouse is accused of killing Dr. Amie Harwick, his ex-girlfriend, by choking her and throwing her off her balcony in February 2020. During the trial, Harwick’s friends testified to her fear of Pursehouse, who had recently found Harwick again several years after they broke up.

The defense rested without presenting a case to the jury.

Deputy District Attorney Victor Avila told the jury it was time to hold Pursehouse accountable for his actions, emphasizing the premeditated nature of the alleged crime.

Prosecutors argued Gareth Pursehouse's motive for going to Amie Harwick's house was to punish her and make her suffer.

Robin Bernstein-Lev argued that the prosecution's evidence was unreliable and that Amie Harwick fell off her balcony to her death.
