The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has formally approved a $32 million settlement in a civil lawsuit over the 2018 death of Anthony Avalos, a 10-year-old Lancaster boy who died after allegedly being tortured by his mother and her boyfriend. Today, the county also announced a corrective plan that will address systemic issues raised in his case, including the need for more training for social workers and better collaboration with law enforcement.

The settlement with Anthony’s family was first announced in May, but had been pending, awaiting final approval of the board of supervisors. The motion approved this week by Los Angeles County officials instructs the Auditor-Controller to draw the money from the budget of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

I think this time and date is accurate. I just heard on my local news that the trial is starting tomorrow. Justice for this sweet baby has been a LONG time coming!

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- On Wednesday, jurors from across Los Angeles County will start to learn about Anthony Avalos's short life and slow death.

He was 10 years old when he died in June 2018 from a head injury, with several others on his body. His mother, Heather Barron, and her boyfriend, Kareem Leiva, face murder, torture and child abuse charges.

The L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services started receiving hotline calls alleging the pair abused the little boy and his siblings years prior.

But they went for a Bench trial (by the Judge) - so I am wondering why jurors are being summoned... ??

Actually - the court site says: Court Trial - for this case. Others say Jury Trial.
And that is what it said this morning - Court Trial. I have not seen anything that has changed from bench trial to a jury trial. I think the newspaper article is wrong. :)

You can compare post #141 with #154 - first one says Jury Trial & second one says Court Trial.
