So interestingly, 'Marcellous' does exist and was just about to face sex trafficking charges over Aubreyanna. I wonder if they will have to be dropped now?

Her heartbroken family are speaking about how only three weeks ago Aubreyanna was a straight A student. Someone she was afraid of came into her life, she ran away and now she's dead. After her arrest, she was put into a safe place but ran away. They believe Marcellous and Shin knew each other.

Whatever happened to this child it seems it was fast and it was catastrophic. If this does turn out to be sex trafficking, I'd have to ask - are there more trafficked victims still out there, and are they okay?

Thing is, I can't find any missing notifications for Aubreyanna. She had been disappeared three weeks and I can't recall reading anything and haven't found anything yet. If anyone comes across a link I'd be grateful if you could post it. I can't even say what I think about this crime, it's so dreadful.

Good grief. The police put her in a "safe shelter" for her protection and she was allowed to leave? :banghead:

RIP Aubreyanna  :rose:

I'm down to searching missing sites now where Jessica Ridgeway is still listed as urgently missing, so if Aubreyanna was listed publically somewhere, it's a little out of the way.

This updated article says Shin was NOT given bail and he is charged with 'special circumstances' murder which means he is facing life without parole.

'Neighbours reported hearing someone scream about 5am'.
That's 40 minutes before Aubreyanna's body was found by passing cyclists. I guess no-one bothered to call police at the time then.

Are the special circumstance lying in wait? Maybe her cellphone will reveal info, best would be texts telling her were to meet. Could she have rejected him in the past? Jmt

ciao

Yes, I think that's what the special circumstances are. I guess lying in wait suggests a degree of premeditation, at least.

Seems like this is sex trafficking big time. Heartbreaking and frightening for parents of teen girls in OC. What a shame no-one could protect Aubreyanna. It won't encourage other victims to come forward and seek help.

"She was terrified,' wrote a detective who interviewed her, days before she was stabbed to death.

That article mentions 'guerilla' and 'romeo' pimps and how they transport girls around, advertizing them as 'new in town'. I did do a lot of searching in various places to see if someone had been trying to sell Aubreyanna and an ad with that wording did catch my eye. Impossible to tell for certain though.

I think they should be called skunk pimps, though that's insulting to skunks. If anybody concerned in this has been making the kind of huge amounts of cash the article mentions, I hope authorities can claw every penny back.

Strip clubs working with law enforcement to stop human trafficking

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- Local strip clubs across Southern California, including Deja Vu in North Hollywood, are teaming up with law enforcement to help fight against human trafficking.

Strip club owner and Club Operators Against Sex Trafficking co-founder Michael Ocello teaches a standing room only crowd of club owners, bouncers, waiters, and entertainers all about the dangers of human trafficking.

"This is an unusual relationship, everybody who hears about it is kind of like, 'wait, wait, wait, can you say that one more time,'" said Ocello.

He founded COAST after he was questioned about a trafficked woman working in one of his clubs.

Yorba Linda slaying: Sex-trafficking gangs infiltrate Orange County

Police believe Aubreyanna Sade Parks, 17, found on Tuesday stabbed to death, is another victim of a growing band of 'Romeo' or 'gorilla' pimps.

With its high incomes and millions of visitors, Orange County has become a major stop on a sex-trafficking circuit that runs through the urban West and appears to have snared a teenage girl killed in Yorba Linda this week.

Criminal street gangs are playing a growing role in the human-trafficking industry, drawn by the promise of easy money without the risks that come with dealing drugs or weapons, according to law enforcement officials. The victims in Orange County alone easily number in the hundreds, many of them teenage girls brought in from nearby counties.

http://www.ocregister.com/articles/smith-629868-old-year.html

A 27-year-old man was sentenced to five years in prison for pimping a 17-year-old girl who was later killed in Yorba Linda. Marsalis Joseph Smith of Gardena pleaded guilty Friday to human trafficking and criminal threats. Charges of trafficking a victim under 18, pimping and pandering a minor were dismissed, according to court records.

Smith was arrested by Santa Ana police after vice officers detained 17-year-old Aubreyanna Parks during a prostitution sting on Harbor Boulevard. The girl told officers she feared Smith would hurt her or her family if she didn’t do as he said...

He was in custody when Parks was found stabbed to death in an upscale Yorba Linda neighborhood on Feb. 4. Larry Soo Shin, 35, was charged with her murder and a trial setting hearing is scheduled for next week.

Potential motive revealed in Yorba Linda slaying of 17-year-old runaway

Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Ferraro was on patrol shortly before 6 a.m. on Feb. 4 when he received the call to a grisly scene.

Ferraro arrived to find the body of a young woman lying facedown on a grassy curb near multimillion dollar homes in an upscale neighborhood of Yorba Linda. She had been stabbed multiple times, her blood spattered in the street. Near the body was a yellow box cutter, an empty knife sheath and part of a severed human finger.

..................... snip ...............................

The cell phone had text messages to a number asking to meet at a guest house in the back of a home near Mirkwood Run and Live Oak Lane.

It was the neighborhood where Parks’ body was later found.

Shin, who has pleaded not guilty, is being represented by Newport Beach-based attorney T. Edward Welbourn.

The preliminary hearing will continue today in the courtroom of Commissioner Ronald E. Klar, who will decide if there’s enough evidence to take the case to trial.

So young, she never got to live her life, rest in peace, justice will be served.

Before an Orange County Superior Court Commissioner found sufficient evidence Tuesday to continue with the trial against Larry Shin, more details became public as to why sheriff's homicide investigators honed in on the 36-year-old so quickly as a murder suspect...

Keisha Clark was the name of an ex-girlfriend who'd done Shin wrong. He's charged with first-degree murder with the special circumstance of lying in wait for Parks' slaying. It's unclear whether Shin's Keisha Clark and Parks were the same person, but it is clear Shin sought revenge on a woman named Keisha Clark, says Deputy District Attorney Troy Pino in Kelly Puente's report on the hearing for the Orange County Register.

Parks' family members described her as a former cheerleader, a good student, and an aspiring attorney. They were surprised when she ran away from their Gardena home in mid-January and really surprised to later learn she had been arrested in a prostitution sting by Santa Ana police on Jan. 24.

A Yorba Linda man was convicted of murder in the 2014 death of a 17-year-old girl who was found stabbed on the side of a road in a neighborhood of multimillion-dollar homes.

Sentencing in scheduled for July 14th.

In the trial, Senior Deputy District Attorney Troy Pino said Shin lured Parks, who was working as a prostitute, to a wealthy neighborhood where he did not live by pretending to be a rich man seeking company while his wife was out of a town. He was not married.

When Parks arrived, he stabbed her multiple times and left her body sprawled on the curb. In the struggle, Shin suffered a severe cut to his hand and went to an emergency room in Corona for treatment. Shin told the doctor that he “fell on his knife,” but his story was suspicious so the doctor called police, Pino said.

Pino said Shin knew Parks by her alias, Keisha Clark, and the two had dated about seven months before the killing. When Shin lured her to Yorba Linda that night, he pretended to be someone else so Parks wouldn’t recognize him, Pino said.
