I believe there was supposed to be a hearing today at 10:00 AM. Hopefully we will hear what took place.

TY Nancy2441.

According to his lawyer:

Ashton had never been to Seattle before he moved there and that his opinion of his new home and the move is “a complicated subject.” “This stuff will all get brought out,”

Hmm, might his parents have 'sent him away' against his wishes? The Sachs' house was large but do we know how many bedrooms it had? Maybe there were space issues and in order to accommodate each child (and adult) with their own room, Ashton had to go. Maybe he resented this and just wanted to come back home to SoCal.

ETA - Found this old listing for their home. Back in 2009 when they purchased it, it only had 4 bedrooms. http://www.redfin.com/CA/San-Juan-Capistrano/32271-Peppertree-Bnd-92675/home/4968376

Very interesting theory, Jash....

So they're saying that his motivation was not financially motivated.. But he's pleading not guilty. Anyone thinking they're going the insanity route? That will definitely be interesting.. I live a city away from where it happened.. I'll definitely be attending the trial.

Please keep us posted on the trial, Babybrit!

He entered a not guilty plea? I'm surprised.

I just dropped in to wish any of our SJC area posters well, and hope noone was scared by the fire in the creek there. I was scared it was going to be another big wildfire like the San Diego ones, but apparently police have just arrested someone on suspicion of starting the SJC fire deliberately.

Thanks Nancy for the update.

How strange, not for financial gain, but for some reason they seem to know. What? I really want to know what happened to this boy that unhinged him so completely.

Also, why does the sister say, “I’ve been alienated from the family,” she said.

It's all so odd.

Well, in an earlier article Andra's sister was quoted as saying she was 'suspicious' of the motives of elder brother Myles, in seeking guardianship of his siblings. I think she said she was going to seek guardianship, then changed her mind and said she couldn't cope.

I can see why that might have led to an estrangement between her and some of the Sachs family.

So, in the OC Reg article, someone identifying themselves as a 'cousin and former housekeeper' of the Sachs, mentions Ashton being like 'Dennis the Menace' (I thought he was a cartoon kid only Brits knew about!).

The exact same description of 'Dennis the Menace' is used in the comments of an old OC Weekly article here, by someone claiming to be 'close'. Worth reading, in my opinion.

I could be wrong but I believe if it is a DP qualified prosecution a defendant has to stand trial. So I don't believe the Court can accept a "guilty" plea in so much that a DP qualified Jury has to hear the evidence.

Ashton Sachs told LE that his parents favored his siblings, didn’t trust him and didn’t take his suicide attempt a year earlier seriously, and he blamed them for the horrible way he felt.
He’d bought a semiautomatic rifle in Washington state weeks earlier, thinking he would kill himself, but decided to kill his parents first. His phone’s Internet history showed he’d read Wikipedia pages on felony murder, attempted murder, the insanity defense and parole.

Text messages recovered from Sachs’ phone and quoted in testimony include an exchange between he and his mother three days before the shootings on his father’s birthday.

“You forgot his birthday. Not nice,” Andra Sachs wrote.

“I forgot his birthday just as much as he forgot he has a son,” Ashton replied.

“Wow, no he didn’t. He loves you very much,” his mother said.
