Maybe she was running from something she did bad and blocked it out.
The amnesia could be very real if she had a massive ovarian tumor. In that case, her own antibodies to the tumor attacked similar cells in the brain. It happens with non-cancerous ovarian tumors as well. The accent I do not believe is real but I don't know if she is making it up or if her brain is being a little strange.

The first thing I thought was that the accent sounded southern, but Deep South. It made me think of someone trying to talk like they're from Savannah, Georgia
I'm not so sure. I'm as deep South as they come, born and raised in Mississippi and have lived in Alabama for 16 years. If she sounded southern, then she would sound "normal" to me. I probably wouldn't be able to hear the accent as much as y'all do. Instead, she sounds like she's trying to sound like that mean nanny on TV....but nicer.

She doesn't sound southern to me, she sounds like southern faking/appropriating an accent not native to her. You wouldn't hear what sounds normal to you so that would not exclude anything lol

Just watched the interview with her in the park and sitting at the picnic bench and I'm changing my mind.

This might be crazy but her accent reminded me of Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher in Murder She Wrote. Angela was born in the UK and moved to the US when she was 15.

I've also heard an accent like that in real life several times and they were all born in the UK and moved to the US spending many years there.
There was also the US way of pronouncing words slipping in and out and the feeling that you weren't quite sure if there was a british accent in there or not.

Anyway I now believe she has been in the US for quite a few years.

If she had daily breakfast at an organic restaurant overlooking the beach at cottesloe (another turn of phrase I find puzzling since it would be a cafe, not a restaurant and frankly there aren't that many of them overlooking the beach because it's houses, not hotels on this side of the lucky country), with that accent, someone should be able to track down said "organic restaurant" and find an employee who remembers her. It's big news here. Someone would know. She might have been here on holiday but....Google Perth beaches and guess what you get.

Though some people would refer to a cafe as a restaurant, especially later in their memories.
It also sounds more special to say you ate at a restaurant rather than a cafe.

about her memories---- I did some reading on amnesia and it seems that the oldest memories will be the ones that are 'saved' and memories close to when the amnesia happened are missing. Therefore, I'm thinking that her memories might be from VERY long ago, Australia, swimming, the restaurant and Hawaii.
The fingerprints did not match which leads me to believe she has been in the US for very many years. Also, her spelling (if she wrote the information piece) is more American with the slang Aussie / Britain terms being misspelled.
I hope she does a new interview for the Today Show. The interview the Today Show sent worldwide is just a repeat.

How far back do "organic restaurants" go in Western Australia? I have nearly 40 years experience here and I would venture to guess probably not more than 10 years. I am honestly not sure but this cannot be ancient history she is referring to.

Depends on when the chemo started I think. She could have lost her hair (be wearing a wig), and still have eyebrows and not lost all body hair yet. (Mom had cancer but I can't remember the order in which she lost her hair).

John Street Cafe lists breakfast, "healthy food" and "near" the beach. Interestingly, it used to be a boarding house.:coffeews: Not a winner I think............
I'm coming up empty on organic restaurants in cottesloe...Will spend longer looking. Could be false memory or embellishment to make it sound grander though. One other thing about the cottesloe story is that if she had beachfront breakfast at cottesloe every morning, she likely lived nearby, which means $$$. Median house price now is 1.9 million dollars.

I'm finding the story...hard to piece together.

I found this restaurant with many organic breakfast items and they have been around for more than 20 years.

I bet their organic items don't go back 20 years though lol. I need more Perth people to chime in on the organic restaurant question because we could never afford to eat at restaurants so I don't have much personal knowledge there. In any case Vans is well back from the beach so not the place she is describing.

One other thing: lap pools in Perth. Fairly new thing? Not sure. When I was a kid you were pretty fancy to just have a below-ground and people were having them put in like crazy in the 80's but lap pool? Again, she's describing money and I never knew anyone with any of that.

Bet you the page gets turned into something else once she is identified..

There is Natures Harvest in Cottesloe --yes organic but it's a smallish cafe and not on the beach.
