Recovered/Located CA - Cecil Knutson (dec'd), Dianna Bedwell (inj'd), Valley Ctr, 10 May 2015

That's my thought, as well, unfortunately.

That somewhere a crash has been missed (which we've seen before, even on searches with helicopters and the route being driven by others) and that explains the car tracker not locating them AND his phone also now being off.

If someone had carjacked them and taken the car or done something to them, the car should still have been trackable b/c of the locator.

If someone had robbed them and taken their valuables, unless it happened right by the Deer Springs entrance (which seems very unlikely to me, knowing that area) I just don't see how that could have happened and not have been seen...meaning someone would have to have had his phone prior, and then just happened to think to turn it off there.

I don't know...I just see a crash seeming to be the most likely option, especially knowing the area.

Right, thing is, her phone was shut off way before his...
IMOO.

With the tracking device in the car either shut off or damaged, if they weren't in an accident, it really does seem like they or someone else doesn't want them found.
IMOO.

"The parent’s cell phones last pinged a few miles north of the casino and then they were shut off. Their car is also outfitted with a tracking device, similar to OnStar, which was also shut off, either because it was removed or damaged."

I just wonder if someone would think to do that to a car before taking off in a car - if they carjacked it with people in it?

I'd think they'd be in a hurry to get out of there and get on the way?

But I also can't really imagine what someone would be thinking to carjack someone anyway, so... LOL

I guess that's why I am thinking that maybe this was an on-purpose "accident", by the both of them... suicide.
It doesn't make sense to me why both of their phones were turned off at different times, plus now their tracking device
is disabled somehow...
IMOO.

Yes, an accident seems most likely.
The only thing that makes me hesitate is the fact that Mom did not call her son as she was leaving the casino and the fact that phones were turned off at differen't places

Exactly! :)

Did they say it was actually shut off or just dead? Maybe the battery on her phone just died while they were at the casino. Or if she is anything like my grandmother she turned her cell phone off when she puts it on the charger for some reason because she thinks it charges faster so maybe she did something similar?

If there was some one already in their car at the casino, wouldn't they have been on video from where the car was parked originally? Like, would they would have been seen breaking in?
IMOO.

As strange as all this sounds, if someone was not after them, and they weren't "lost", and if it's not an accident,
I wonder maybe if they turned off their phones themselves, and had one last gambling excursion,
before they possibly decided to commit suicide.

I don't like thinking that way, but there have been several murder suicides lately here in the state of Colorado,
that it crossed my mind, that it can happen anywhere, any state.
I hope that is not the case, and they are found alive.
IMOO.

I wondered that briefly also, but couldn't get past where they would be then?

If they limit the area of search to closer to Deer Springs (b/c of his ping) then that's even a smaller area to possibly need to locate them in, and it's even more visible than it would have been on parts of the road nearer to the casino.

I can't imagine them being right there and not have been found?

And if it were murder-suicide, and they both weren't in on it being a suicide pact type thing, it means either Cecil would have had to plan it and somehow get Dianna's phone and turn it off before leaving (which seems hard to do since apparently she's pretty attached to her phone) or else she had to commandeer control of the car which he was driving to either make them crash (and either know it would cause his phone to stop pinging so they'd not be found, or else then survive long enough to disable it)

I'm still thinking the ping at Deer Springs is a little funny/off. It feels like it limits the area too much, and makes it far more of an issue with almost every scenario :waitasec:

I'd love to know who their cell provider is with and see if they could get someone else in the family on the same plan to drive the route and maybe be on the phone and see if they can tell how close to Deer Springs Road the phone would ping there in any direction.

Yes, I expect so

"Bedwell's phone was shut off almost immediately after leaving."

Yeah...but I think that could be a fluke. Accidentally trying to put it into sleep (or whatever mode it is on her phone) and holding the power button too longer or...something.

Because if it was a carjacking why wouldn't both have been turned off at the same time? (Plus that'd mean it had to happen at the casino, which would have almost certainly been on camera)

Wouldn't it?

I feel like the phone thing - with them off at different times (or last pinging at different times) might have the factor of one being 'innocent' playing into it.

The only thing that makes sense to me is a car accident. I do not think they would commit double suicide on a day they were planning to visit their children.

With her phone being shut off just after leaving the casino, my hunch is she did that to preserve a battery that was low.

I hope they are found soon.

How about this...

Could Dianna have DROPPED her phone (accidentally) at the casino toward the end?

Maybe taking one last bathroom stop while Cecil went to pull the car up?

Or dropped it getting into the car and not noticed and someone picked it up and turned it off?

Or turned it in to security? And it got turned off?

And perhaps no one has even thought that her phone might not have even been on her when they left, thus explaining it pinging somewhere else and not getting as far as his did?

In fact, could she have realized it as they were getting close to getting on the freeway, then turned around to go back for it, and then something happened going BACK to Valley View? :waitasec:

Only know one would be thinking that so they'd possibly rule out something going the other way?

Or heck, even have realized it and gone the (in my mind) less likely route of going via Lila / Old Castle and so literally circling around Valley View to go back and get her phone, only something happened before they got there. (B/c Champagne / Old 395 runs along the freeway past Deer Springs on the east side, up to Lilac and over to Old Castle to the casino that way)

If they KNOW from pings they hadn't gone that way initially, they might NOT have thought there'd be a real reason to search that other route to Valley View.

Another thing if they didn't have car chargers for their phones then maybe she turned hers off to preserve the battery? Me and my husband were traveling and broke our car charger so I did turn my cell off while we used his GPS just because I didn't want to waste both batteries while we were driving 4 hours at night. I wanted to make sure if his died we could use mine.

I love how these small details mean so much to us while we are trying to help figure out what happened when in reality we all do weird things daily that could be taken way out of context if we ever went missing. Sometimes I will do something way out of the ordinary from my normal routine and kind of giggle to myself about how that would come across to all the sleuthers if I vanished that day.

it was Mother's Day too... planned suicide on Mother's Day? no no no, my mind is just not going there. They've got to be lost... I hope they are just lost...

Unless they planned a gas/pit stop right before getting on the freeway and so were considering that where they were "leaving" from (in their minds)?

Or if they were in a hurry to get out and gambled a bit longer than they intended or lingered a bit over food or even in the restroom, and so just wanted to get out and get on the road (and it COULD have been an issue trying to call between VV and the freeway in spots) and so waited for better reception once they got to 15? (Meaning they could have probably gotten the call out but then had it dropping or cutting on parts of the way getting to Deer Springs, etc. so waited?)

(That's the only thing I can think of)

Dianna's last ping was at exit of the Valley View casino, and his 10 miles away at the 15 freeway entrance

They obviously need to search at the farthest distance the phone pinged, the I-15 freeway entrance.
His phone stopped pinging there. THAT'S where they are. I imagine she turned her phone off for one of the numerous reasons people listed above.

We should all feel comforted knowing the CHP is out searching for them, but with the way a lot of these so-called police searches have gone lately, it might be better if the private sector does it instead.

I agree.

Just replying to why I think the carjacking thing / someone in the car at VV is unlikely.

Especially since I'm sure they rewound footage to watch the car the whole time.

They know what time they arrived at the casino, know he walked out to the car alone and drove back to get her, etc.

I think if someone had been in their car it had to have been the entire time and I just don't see that as possible.

But a phone battery going dead would do the same thing, no? That shuts the phone off.

I started using Airplane mode on my phone b/c of a lame battery that doesn't hold a charge long (literally 3 hours with not even using it, it just being in my bag, will have it down to 30% - no calls, no texts, nothing - don't get me started on what happens if I try to use my smart phone as a smart phone without it being charged most of the time! LOL) and I use it when I'm charging it sometimes.

Anyone know how Airplane Mode impacts how a phone pings?

I know it means missed calls or texts, etc. don't show up until the phone is back in regular operating mode, so it definitely impacts some things...but I don't know how it impacts pings.

They could have stopped to make the call to their son, and have been approached by someone. It seems that she would have been the one calling, so possibly she had her phone in her hand or otherwise in plain sight when approached and was ordered to turn it off immediately. His phone turned off a little later, once it was determined he had one. Just a possible scenario IMO (that I really hope isn't true).

I'm wondering about someone following them from the casino due to winnings - no mention yet of if there were any, correct? Perhaps surveillance from the casino could show if someone was following or watching them, but I accept that could be like searching for a needle in a haystack.
