Women whose truck was shot by LAPD officers hunting Christopher Dorner refuse replacement as they were asked to pay tax on it and pose for publicity photos with police ( link )

An elderly who was shot by police during the manhunt for LAPD officer Christopher Dorner have refused a replacement truck after the force asked them to pose for publicity photographs.

[...]

Mrs Hernandez's attorney Glen Jonas said the women no longer want it after the force asked them to pose for photographs and pay income tax on the truck by filling out a 1099 form.

He told NBClosangeles: 'You tried to murder the woman, now you're telling her she can't have a four-wheel drive, you're telling her she can't sell it and you've got to be taxed on it?'

He said the truck - valued at $32,560 - was being treated as a 'reward or prize' instead of a gesture of compensation.

He added that Mrs Hernandez is still suffering complications after she was hit twice in the neck by police.

I can't believe the audacity to request a photo opp after what these women experienced. That is seriously mind boggling to me.

I can't believe this... to me, they were already getting off easy for shooting at innocent people. I don't think LE are allowed to s hoot first and ask questions later. No one was in danger of a little old lady delivering newspapers. This was not a "case of mistaken identity" - how long would it take to verify license plates, try to pull them over to determine their identity, or just follow them for a while and call for back up to block streets/roads. By looking at the truck, it's amazing they are still alive.

"...we just can't get past the 1099 issue," LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith said."

How about giving them some money in compensation in addition to the new truck. And, NOT asking for a photo-op?

The women's Toyota Tacoma was pierced with 102 bullet holes from the Feb. 7 shooting, according to Jonas.

I'm just speechless when it wasn't even the same kind of truck as Dorner was said to be driving.

Dorner: Riverside defends rescinding $100,000 reward ( link )

Riverside's mayor on Wednesday defended the city's decision to pull back a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner.

The LAPD says there's still enough for a $1-million payout, culled from various sources during the manhunt.

Riverside rescinded its $100,000 contribution for information leading to Dorner's "arrest and conviction." Dorner was killed at the end of the standoff.

"Because the conditions were not met, there will not be a payment of a reward by the city," Riverside spokeswoman Cindie Perry said last week.

Some Calif. donors yank reward in Dorner cop-killer case ( link )

Some California donors, including the city of Riverside, have withdrawn their part of more than $1 million in reward money offered for the capture and conviction of cop-killer Christopher Dorner, who committed suicide after a 10-day shooting spree in Southern California last month.

[...]

Two claims have been made on the reward, one by a couple near the vacation resort whose car was stolen after they were tied up by Dorner, and a man whose pickup was hijacked by the suspect, The Press-Enterprise reported.

Nobody Deserves the $1.3 Million Reward for Christopher Dorner’s Capture. Donors Should Pay Up Anyway. ( link )

So who should get the reward money? There are a few different people claiming it—one man who was carjacked by Dorner; a couple whom Dorner tied up in a cabin—and, honestly, none of them really have a great case to collect. As a Los Angeles Times story put it today: “Some find the claims for the money unseemly. They believe reward seekers had called police to report they were victims of crimes by Dorner and now seek to profit from their brief encounters, which left them unharmed, during a rampage that devastated the families of police officers and of others he killed.”

I agree that “being a crime victim” is not the same thing as “being a third party who comes forward with a tip.” But the reticence here still looks bad. CBS correspondent John Miller, a former assistant director of public affairs at the FBI, pinpointed the problem with the donors’ cheapness:

When you offer a $1 million reward and you say to everybody who ever leads to this capture is going to get it, there’s a credibility issue here, which is, you don’t want the next time you offer a $1 million reward for people on the other end to say, “Well, they might pay it, or they might not.” So they shouldn’t have to pay this reward, but they should pay it for the credibility of the reward process.

Reward for dead California fugitive policeman shrinks ( link )

(Reuters) - A second group has pulled its money from a pooled $1.2 million reward offered during a manhunt for a renegade former California policeman who died in a fiery standoff, a Los Angeles television station said.

The Peace Officers Research Association of California withdrew the $50,000 it pledged for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Christopher Dorner, KNBC said.

An official for the association, which represents 64,000 police union members, told the television station on Friday that the conditions for the reward had not been met because Dorner was not arrested.

Chris Dorner 911 Tapes: Audio Released Of Couple 'Tied Up' By Ex-Los Angeles Police Officer
Associated Press
04/09/13 11:01 PM ET EDT

'SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- Authorities on Tuesday released audio of a February 911 call from a California couple bound in their condo by fugitive ex-police officer Christopher Dorner, who fled in their SUV and would die during a shootout with deputies just hours later.

"We were tied up by Dorner," Karen Reynolds says, her husband Jim shouting in the background, during the roughly 21-minute recording from Feb. 12 released by San Bernardino County after a public records request by The Associated Press."

+

""You guys are just across from the command center?" the operator says, sounding surprised."

+

"The operator asks Reynolds to yell out for deputies so they could locate the couple, and they arrived 19 minutes into the call."

It took 19 minutes to get to the couple. Astounding.

Well, this a risk free reward offer then. It was obvious from the start Dorner was going to go out in a blaze of glory. Chances of him being captured alive were slim to none.

Dealer Auctions Off Gun Owned by Rogue Ex-LAPD Officer Christopher Dorner

Proceeds from the auction, posted on GunBroker.com, likely will be donated to the families of the two law enforcement agents Dorner killed, Bramlett told the Associated Press.

But administrators handling funds for San Bernardino County Sheriff Deputy Jeremiah MacKay and Riverside police Officer Michael Crain said the officers’ families don't want the money.

President of the Riverside Police Officers’ Association Sgt. Brian Smith called the offer "morbid."

I am speechless. I am in disbelief. You have GOT to be freaking kidding me!

Let's review. (I am so angry I may get some details wrong, but you get the point!)

3 police officers and a police officers daughter are DEAD.
That means people are without their husband and Daddy!
Other cops were shot at and/or injured.

2 innocent women were SHOT.
2 innocent people were tied up by this guy in their own cabin.

1 guy got carjacked and spent all of 30 seconds with the dude.

Which one of those victims wants at least $1 million
AND an order prohibiting anyone else from getting the reward money?

If I told you my opinion on this person I'd be banned.
I am shocked that anyone can be so selfish and inconsiderate. :stormingmad:

Couple held captive to get lion's share of Dorner reward

FYI--The one who filed a lawsuit to get all of the reward and deny anyone else from receiving any part of it:

Among those not receiving any money is Richard Heltebrake, a camp ranger who was carjacked by Dorner in the Big Bear area and who had filed a claim seeking a piece of the reward pie. His phone call "did not lead to information leading to Dorner's capture," the report said, adding that officers had already spotted the fugitive in a white pickup.

that's perfect, just as it should be

I would feel better, if that couple turned around and gave it to the murdered cops families.
However, that's probably asking too much of society.

A double killing, a vengeful plan, a wave of fear

http://graphics.latimes.com/christopher-dorner-manhunt/

The bullet-riddled bodies of a young Irvine couple were found on a parking garage roof, and nobody had heard a sound. The next day, an auto shop worker found a police uniform in a garbage bin 100 miles away. It led to a terrifying discovery. Christopher Dorner, a disgraced ex-LAPD officer, had sworn revenge on those he blamed for his firing. He had vowed to kill them all … and their families.

Eight Los Angeles police officers violated department policy governing the use of deadly force when they opened fire on a pair of women delivering newspapers in Torrance during the manhunt for fired LAPD Officer Christopher Dorner, the city Police Commission decided Tuesday.

The panel, however, upheld the actions of two other officers who exchanged fire with Dorner earlier the same morning while they were on a protective detail in Corona. One of the officers suffered a graze wound to the head, and the other was sprayed with shattered glass.

Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck will determine what discipline the officers involved in the Torrance shooting will face, saying the punishment could range from "extensive retraining to termination."
