There is a thread!
Dna Case List

Great to have a thread like that to submit that those cases would be good to investigate with familial as was intention of the creator of that thread!

What I was thinking of, was exactly along the lines of what Niner produced with info and WS link, a compilation of solved ones we follow. And then there was another person who also submitted some.

I was thinking of cases that were solved, not ones to submit to be solved. I find it a great interest to have it solved, and then read back to the beginning of a websleuths page thread origination.

Got it now, i read your original post too quickly!
5 Big Cold Cases That Had Major Breaks in 2017
"The year 2017 was an explosive one on the crime-news front. But for the families of some long-ago crime victims, the past 12 months were especially memorable since their loved ones’ cases—some unsolved for decades—took dramatic new steps toward being solved. Resolving long-cold cases isn’t a common occurrence, but it is happening more often thanks to advances in DNA testing, evidence collection and technology."
"Here are five of the year’s biggest cold cases that saw positive progress in 2017."

Thanks, I see that one was through familial DNA #2 from your list to be added to Niner's familial DNA list.

5 Big Cold Cases That Had Major Breaks in 2017

#1

Suzanne Bombardier

DNA was matched using the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System in 2017

CA - Suzanne Bombardier, 14, abducted & murdered, Antioch, 22 June 1980 *Arrest*

#2

Bree’Anna Guzman and Michelle Lozano

Los Angeles Police Department used a controversial type of DNA testing called familial DNA to allegedly connect a Torrance, California man named Geovanni Borjas with the crimes.

"In April 2011, the body of 17-year-old Michelle Lozano was found on the Golden State Freeway in California. She was naked, wrapped in plastic bags and had been stuffed in a plastic container. Her body was found just one day after she was last seen in front of her high school.

The following year, another young woman, Bree’Anna Guzman, 22, disappeared as she walked to Rite Aid for cough medicine. She lived less than a mile from Lozano; her body, too, was later found on the side of a highway.

Six years after the bodies were found, police got a DNA match on a sample they’d secretly collected when a suspect spit on the sidewalk. It was a stunning break in a case that had been cold for years, and the Los Angeles Police Department used a controversial type of DNA testing called familial DNA to allegedly connect a Torrance, California man named Geovanni Borjas with the crimes.

“With a familial search, we [scour] our criminal database for a relation to a person,” explains Giacalone. In other words, officials search their databases for relatives of the perpetrator, who share similar DNA because they’re related.

“It’s controversial because you’re targeting people that may not have done anything wrong,” Giacalone says. Still, he says he considers it “the greatest tool in cold cases since the discovery of DNA.”

Though familial DNA searches are still not widely used, the state of California has solved a number of crimes using this system, including the high-profile Grim Sleeper case.

In May, Borjas was charged with two counts each of murder and forcible rape and one count of kidnapping. He could receive the death penalty if convicted. He has not yet been tried."

CA - Michelle Lozano, 17, & Bree'Anna Guzman, 22, Los Angeles, 2011 *Arrest*

#3

Janie Landers

The officer ran Landers’ bloody shirt through the FBI’s DNA database again, and this time there was a hit. The match? A convicted rapist named Gerald Dunlap who had reportedly worked in the laundry room at the facility where Landers had lived.

No WS thread I could find from this 1978 case

#4

Teresa Broudreaux

In 2013, officials ran DNA from the scene through the database again. This time they got a match, but it wasn’t until 2017 that they had sufficient evidence to charge Robert Yniguez, 65.

CA - Teresa Broudreaux, 20, pregnant, murdered, Palos Verdes Estates, 4 March 1980

#5

Freddie Farah

Miller’s palm print—left on food items near the convenience store counter—matched a profile found in the FBI’s Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

No WS thread that I could find.

This shows what type of hearings are held in each department at each time. His department is 61 (Honorable Judge Michael Sweet). The hearings scheduled at 1:35 pm are law and motion or further proceedings. This case is now so voluminous that it will take several years to try before a jury. Hopefully he pleas out and saves the State millions of dollars.

I think he is enjoying the spotlight.:(:(:(
All the attention: how he fooled everyone for years.
Now many more years for his extended '15 minutes of fame': he is laughing in his dreams, thinking 'how much smarter' he is, than all these groups, trying to build a case.

Who will defend, prosecute Golden State Killer suspect? These lawyers are on the case

"The names earned over the decades – the East Area Rapist, the Visalia Ransacker, the Original Night Stalker, the Golden State Killer – finally had a face. And, for the attorneys involved, it promises to be the biggest case of their careers....

On Aug. 13, Tulare County filed a new murder charge against DeAngelo, adding a 13th name to the grim list: Claude Snelling, a journalism professor shot dead outside his Visalia home in September 1975 while trying to stop his 16-year-old daughter’s abduction.

In Santa Ana a week after the Tulare filing, Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert and five district attorneys announced they would jointly refile the 13 murder charges, add 13 more charges of kidnapping for robbery for alleged attacks on more victims and try the case in the state capital.

DeAngelo returns to Sacramento Superior Court Dec. 6.

The lawyers on both sides would not comment on their roles. Who are they? Here are snapshots:..."

Could Unsolved Murder Of Young Mother Be Linked To Golden State Killer?

TUSTIN (CBSLA) – A group of law students in Orange County believe the death of a young mother may have a connection to the accused Golden State Killer.

The unsolved murder of Patricia Neufeld, a Garden Grove mother who lived just blocks from the brother of suspected killer Joseph DeAngelo, is getting a fresh look 40 years later.

The 34-year-old victim’s home was about six blocks from DeAngelo’s brother.

Another case, the killing of Fountain Valley’s Joan Anderson, could also be linked to the Golden State Killer. The same group of lawyers brought this to the attention of the Orange County district attorney, which is now investigating.

Anderson and Neufeld lived two blocks from one another. In Anderson’s case, a construction worker was convicted and sent to prison. The group of lawyers think he was innocent.

He died behind bars.
