It was said here that it was sold to a family member, but I don't know if that was a fact from someone in a position to know or just speculation.

Here is a recent Podcast asking about the possibility of whether the suspect held in the Golden State Killer might also be responsible for Zodiac Murders:

Here is another Podcast examining the possible link between the man being held as the Golden State Killer suspect and the Zodiac crimes. I originally thought that the Golden State Killer might be too young to be a suspect in the cases being born in around 1953 and about 25 years old at the time of the Maggiore Murders but of course this man is a lot older therefore he could be a more viable suspect in the Zodiac crimes:

Here's composite sketch of the Zodiac killer - do we have a pix of DeAngelo for back then? Looks like this guy has a square jaw.

edited to add an "older" looking person sketch.

The LA Times published another article by Paige St. John 12/18/2019. It has some new information that has not been reported previously. If you have been following the GSK case it is worth reading.

Very interesting article, had often thought that the EAR wanted most of all to punish and essentially "castrate" the male victims - daddy, perhaps latent homosexual issues, imo.speculation.
from link..
"But the arrest of Joseph DeAngelo — a former police officer with a reputation for aggressive challenges against men — brings into focus the calculated emasculation of male victims."

Here is a recent report about the case:

Hayes said he is furious over the way the original police investigation was conducted, noting he remembered telling investigators in 1977 the intruder wore khaki pants, which he later realized were similar to a police officer's uniform.

An Auburn City Police log that Hayes claimed to have recently obtained shows that DeAngelo was on duty around the time he and his girlfriend were brutalized.

Hayes said he believes that after all these years, there is a “bombshell hiding” in the investigation, saying he is convinced someone in authority knew the identity of the Golden State Killer long before his arrest.

Inside Edition spoke with current Auburn Police Chief Ryan Cannan, who denied there was a cover-up and said that “there’s no police officer, no sheriffs that wants this type of person working with them.”

DeAngelo is locked up in a Sacramento jail. He looked shockingly thin at a recent court appearance, according to published reports, he's gone from 205 to 135 pounds, after refusing to eat.

I can believe the police suspecting the rapist/GSK was a cop, but not knowing who it was.

Could someone in the police force have suspicions about DeAngelo? Sure, but it's one thing to suspect & another to charge.

Even if another cop suspected him, who would believe one of their officers is a serial rapist/murderer.

It's like the wives of most serial killers, they never in a million years would suspect their husbands.

It's a tough position to be in.......& back in the 1970's & 80's, cops got away with a lot of stuff compared to today.

Hayes telling the detective the rapist was possibly wearing pants that resembled a police uniform probably pissed off the detective, they don't want to hear it......it ashame.

8/22/19 Update: Defense has a ton of discovery to go through. Hearing continued to 1/22/20.

I'm hoping the local news will be broadcasting the hearing on Facebook like they have the previous ones. In light of recent occurrences, I'll be interested to see if he speaks up this time or just stands silently again.

Lawyers for Golden State Killer/East Area Rapist suspect Joseph James DeAngelo are asking for a delay in the case, arguing that in a hearing set for Wednesday a Sacramento judge should not yet schedule a preliminary hearing in the case.

Ignoring defense pleas for another year to prepare for the Golden State Killer/East Area Rapist case, a Sacramento judge Wednesday ordered a preliminary hearing for Joseph James DeAngelo to commence on May 12, more than two years after his arrest.

“This is not an easy call,” Sacramento Superior Court Judge Steve White said after hearing arguments from both sides in a 25-minute hearing.

But, he added, he had to take into account the fact that witnesses and victims in the decades-old case are growing older and may not be available when the case finally gets to trial.

“I wish to make the case that there cannot be a case that’s too big to go to trial,” the veteran judge added.

The gallery in the courtroom inside the Sacramento County Jail, which included victims from the East Area Rapist series, broke into applause when White ordered the hearing date set. Earlier, during arguments when a prosecutor said aging rape victims deserve to see the case move forward, one man in the audience yelled, “Amen!”
