My opinion is based on the clear affection he showed for the baby when she was hospitalized. He kept everyone updated about her condition and was so hopeful. Calling her "it" at a time of extreme stress really doesn't signify anything to me. At that point I believe she was dead and he was trying to mentally distance himself.

I really wish we had more context about this comment. I can see someone saying "we were going through a hard time, it... she was so sick" (totally hypothetical example). If he truly said something as heinous as "it disappeared" then yes, no question it was awful! But I can see scenarios where that specific word could be used innocently, but sound bad. I'm not trying to defend anyone here, I'm just trying to play devil's advocate I suppose and see other possibilities.

This isn't directly related to this case, but all of a sudden honey wax and honey oil are all over our local news (Sacramento CA area - a couple of hours from where MH lived). Last night they even went over how it's made and risks etc. and tonight they showed more evidence of explosions. I keep wondering is it because of Ember or because the "market" grew?

Well, we do have context in that we know that MG called his baby daughter "it" in a way that sent up huge red flags for LE, along with his lack of emotion and remorse. And, seeing how things ended up--with him on the run, not divulging where he put her--it would seem like LE's interpretation that he was not behaving and emoting like a bereaved parent was probably right on.

I think his intention was suicide by cop and that is why he showed the ID at the store. I also think he had true feelings of love for Ember and deep remorse about her death. Perhaps if they find the backpack, they will find her. I do not believe he discarded her as a piece of trash.

LE say it did not appear that MG's intention was suicide by cop (see link below). I think he just wanted some smokes and thought that the clerk might not recognize his name/face. Of course he was scared. He was facing a life behind bars if he got apprehended. I don't think fear of being caught, carjacking and shooting at police so he could keep running (or actually any of his behavior that we know of, including showing no remorse and calling his baby "it") is expressive of deep remorse. In fact, it seems the opposite.

He had the backpack at the store. It wasn't in the backyard of the place he was sleeping, or in their car? Maybe he hid it nearby their home and didn't have time to get it when they came face to face that morning.

Why was he facing a life in prison? He had not been charged with anything connected to Ember. And the way these cases have gone historically, it would have been difficult to charge him if she is never found. He insists she was kidnapped. Casey A. is one of the few charged, vs. the parents of Ayla, Haleigh, Kyron, Lisa and more. Jmo

Good point. Maybe he would have gotten off. But it seems he feared otherwise since he fled with a gun and cash once a lead was discovered.

I would say they should search the area he was familiar with near the homeless encampment area. This was mentioned by the lady that reported him at the convenience store where he bought cigarettes from when he was on the run. I read somewhere that he worked there during his community service. It's just my opinion.
If it was left at or near the homeless camp then I'd say it's probably been picked up now.

Ugh... I know they're just each trying to make different points, but it really bothers me seeing the Sheriff and the Public Defender (and maybe also Probation Department?) going at each other like this. I assume they all had the same ultimate goal, Baby Ember found alive and well. Barring that, Baby Ember found.
I think LE and the probation officer has a hard time. They do their job arresting people, sending the charges to be filed on someone only to have the Prosecuting attorney let them loose to do more harm.
The Public Defender is there to protect their client, LE and hopefully the probation officers are there to protect us.
I see this a lot where I live. Nothing of this magnitude lately but sometimes it's enough to make me sick.
We had a guy shoot another guy in the face at a party. He (along with people who lived at the home IMO) chopped him up and tried to burn him. They then put him in a barrel with concrete and put him on killers family members farm.
Plead down to manslaughter. I'm still livid.

re: the backpack I hope it's been picked up and I hope whoever picked it up gave it to LE. For all we know they might just find some Powerade and smokes in it but I keep hoping there's something that leads to Ember.

re: the whole justice system, I understand why it's that way but it seems like a really bad setup. Maybe I'm living in a fantasy world but I wish they'd at least support each other most of the time, especially if they have a common goal (such as "find this baby!"). Actually it seems like they usually do, but in this case they've been in the media criticizing each other a fair amount. I could go on a whole other rant about prison sentences but I know it's off topic here so I won't for now. I'm sorry for that situation you ran into though. I completely understand why you're angry!

Hindsight is 20/20 but I wonder what the outcome would have been if the pacifier was just sent out for DNA testing without mentioning it to the family (if that's possible)

here it says he was having visitation............. nothing about her packing to move in w him...

i think in light of recent events she is creating distance. i feel bad for her but it was all over the news and also that she was standing by him.

what a mess.

UPDATE: Sheriff says rumors baby Ember Graham's body found are false

The Sheriff’s Office also was asked about a comment on a local Facebook crime watch group in which someone said a cadaver dog hit on an ice chest that belonged to Graham.

Sgt. Pat Kropholler confirmed detectives did take an ice chest from the Noosha Lane property, where Graham lived in a 25-foot trailer. This is where he brought his daughter as part of visitation arrangements he had with the child’s mother and his estranged wife, Jamie Lee Graham.

Kropholler said he did not know whether the ice chest belonged to Matthew Graham, but so far there is no evidence that it is related to the case. He also noted that no cadaver dogs from the Sheriff’s Office hit the ice chest.

Nor Cal Alliance for the Missing will resume private searches on Saturday with professional searchers only.

Inside backpack: rope, twine , gloves, single sheet, frying pan, roll of duct tape, shirt. No items of value in #BabyEmber's disappearance.

I'm curious how it got 250 yards into woods if he parked the car and ran? It didn't sound like he got that far. Could he have put the backpack there prior to stealing the car and was going back for it? Might answer why he pulled off highway at that particular exit. jMO

Well, at least they found the backpack. It's disappointing that there were no clues as to Embers whereabouts, wishful thinking I suppose on my part.

Per Jenny Espino tweet (7/16/15 @3:54) ".........backpack was in a densely wooded area about 250 years [yards?] from victim's residence on Cottage Avenue."
Question- by victim- do they mean the couple that were held at gunpoint? If he hunkered down and slept outside their house- why would his backpack be in that location? Just does not make sense to me at all. I hope they can verify it was his with 100% certainty.

Backpack was found in the Lake Shasta City area (where he stole the car), not where he ended up in the stand-off with LE (Dunsmuir).
