"We're assisting them as far as some of the more military aspects of the investigation," said Ed Buice, NCIS public affairs officer at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia. "The military world is sometimes very confusing to non-military investigators. We help them connect the dots and find a way through the red tape."

The NCIS maintains an office at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, where Corwin was last seen June 28.

According to a resident in Oak Ridge, Tenn. — the hometown of Erin Corwin and her husband, Marine Cpl. Jonathan Corwin — the NCIS had been there to interview at least one person.

Also, there are mines in the Newberry Springs area (it basically runs into Ludlow)

April's clothes were found in one of them back in 2006 thanks to an observant mine owner...

Clothing belonging to a woman who disappeared from Newberry Springs in 2004 has been discovered in a mine shaft in Ludlow, prompting her family to renew efforts to find her.

The owner of a mine in Ludlow came across some abandoned clothes when he was giving a tour in December. Caison said the unidentified owner was familiar with the case and made contact with missing persons organizations. Eventually this information was relayed to Denton, who flew out to California last week.

AND, it's not just a few mines... (this is a sad but interesting article w/ a lot from April's mom)

She thinks her daughter's body was dumped in one of the hundreds of played-out mines that dot the desert outside Barstow, Calif.

Too soon for skeletal remains right? Less than three weeks ...

It's definitely her. Hundred degree heat speeds up decomposition like crazy. It's gotta be her.

And they could date WAY, WAY back...

Check this out:

On Sunday, August 28, 2011, at approximately 1647 hrs, Deputies from Barstow Station responded to a report of skeletal remains that were located in the wash area near Newberry Rd and Stem Rd, in Newberry Springs.

These remains found in NS in 2011? Ancient American Indian ones...
Skeletal remains found in a wash in Newberry Springs are ancient American Indian bones, according to officials.

Barstow Sheriff’s deputies responded to a wash area near Newberry Road and Stem Road in Newberry Springs on August 28 after two people looking for arrowheads in the area found a human skull, according to a sheriff’s report.

So, I just watched the video by the horse ranch owner. I find the story about her not being able to keep the horse on base very interesting. Not sure why, but it feels important to me.

Maybe she made it up...used it as an excuse. Perhaps she wanted to have to visit the ranch, to get away, to see someone, or just escape base for a while. All JMO.

Last ones just because one, especially has some parallels to Erin's case...

And it also had a thread here and was like a 48 Hours or something show one time. (Oh, and the guy's way of trying to get out of her murder was quite a tactic.)

The suspected remains of a missing Barstow mother were uncovered in the desert Thursday after the woman's boyfriend led detectives to a shallow grave near Newberry Springs

This one is also interesting - shows how long it's taken them in some cases. Remains from a 1946 murder then took a long time to ID.

Ironically, three weeks after this article and this having been the oldest remains they'd had that old, then the ones were found that ended up being the ancient American Indian ones.
"We are constantly finding bodies in the desert.... We've had a lot of unsolved cases that were many, many years old," said Deputy Coroner Bob Hunter. But this is the first "that's anywhere near that old....

I remember reading about another woman missing near Joshua Tree within the last year, but can't remember where I saw it. Anyone else?

Carla Reyes is missing from Yucca Valley.

if you expand the map.......the 2 apartments searched aren't very far from where the car was found

and i am still wondering the last time Erin went home to visit....or if any of her friends from TN visited her??

There was just an article linked that LE (I forget which) was back in her home town talking to at least one person. I'll find the link.
