I think that these shooters had mental health issues that caused what happened and not the video games. I think there is more to it than just playing video games. I have many friends who play who aren't running out and killing people. JMO

ITA.....thank you for saying this!
I've been known to play video games myself.

In the state of Californiua, that is exactly the case.

5. Viability: Viability is defined under California law as “the point in a pregnancy when, in the good faith medical judgment of a physician, on the particular facts of the case before that physician, there is a reasonable likelihood of the fetus’ sustained survival outside the uterus without the application of extraordinary medical measures.”[5]

I think that's viability for abortion, not for homicide? I believe in California, you need to be 7 or 8 weeks along to count it as double homicide.

I very strongly believe video games desensitize people in many ways. And for those who have mental health issues, it affects them even more so.

My thought was he stuck the rebar in the ground to hold a tire for target practice.

Tires and rebar, I'll have to ask hubby what he thinks. Why beat Erin when he had a gun to shoot her with?

The thought that comes to mind is too gruesome to post, but my assumption is that it has something to do with the baby.

He left such a trail for LE to follow, I don't know why he just didn't turn himself in.

He asked around about how to dispose of a human body.
He did internet searches on his computer of places to dispose of a human body.
He had spent .22 casings in his Jeep.
He left spent .22 casings in the mine shaft.
He had rebar in his Jeep.
He left rebar that was consistent with the rebar in his Jeep in the mine shaft.
He wasn't discrete about having an affair with Erin since neighbors knew about it.
He met with her outside of the base and left Jeep markings for LE to follow and trace back to him.
He left electronic imprints of his locations that day.
He didn't take into account that Erin was telling people about their affair and the baby.

He should have just tied a bow around his neck and appeared at the police station with a written confession in his hands. :shame:

Arrogance-thinking he is above the law and untouchable. Same goes for NL. Not the brightest crayons on the box.

And to add to that, if military members are desensitized to killing, it's the killing of enemies, not people they are intimate with and who are (possibly) carrying their child.

LE has to be able prove pregnancy, Imo, before considering charges regarding a possible baby, fetus, or embryo. Jmo maybe even that she was pregnant at the time of death, i,e a doctor's report that states she was WAS pregnant two months ago may not be enough jmo.

So the article is inferring this MONSTER tied tires to her body and lit them on fire. I'm sure the details will emerge.
I am having a VERY hard time believing Mrs. L wasn't involved in this.....OPINION ONLY

I kind of feel like she wasn't burned, or if she was, it was for a very short time. If it went according to plan, I would think there likely wouldn't be a body...it could have been the original plan, then they scrapped it or maybe they panicked and disposed of the body as quickly as possible.

So the alleged murder weapon was found tucked away at Horse Ranch woman's property. I am NOT buying the story that it was just there for "safe keeping". B-a-l-o-n-e-y. I think this Horse Ranch woman knew everything, and only started talking when LE starting applying some pressure and she got scared. Either Horse Ranch Woman or Mrs. L gave information to lead LE to Erin's body That is the only way they could have found her. So who talked? Horse Ranch woman or Mrs. L....or both?
SPECULATION AND OPINION ONLY

I am thinking they likely will not go down the baby path. I think they will focus on the lying in wait aspect rather than multiple murders, just in how they worded the documents so far. JMO.

Correct. But I don't remember them reporting they found .22 ammunition. The probable cause said they found ten .40 spent shell casing the in CL's jeep but no mention of .22 casing.

IM also said in an interview after the probable cause was released that they didn't take a gun/rifle from her ranch.

I don't remember anything ever mentioned about .22 casings either, but they must have.
"The former Marine accused of killing Erin Corwin admitted searching the Internet for advice on how to dispose of a body, and .22-caliber cartridge casings and pieces of rebar at the mine shaft where she was found matched those found in his Jeep, according to an arrest warrant filed in California Superior Court."

I also read somewhere today that the markings on the .22 casings matched those found in his Jeep and in his home. I'll keep looking for that link.

Imo, unless you are a student of forensics, there is never a reason to know about how to dispose of a body. But you can be sure a lawyer will try some crazy thing out.

This guy needs to be a "man" and admit his crimes. Imo he is going to prison or worse, anyway. With LWOP he may get a chance to see his child on occasion. The worst thing in the world, Imo, has to be growing up with a parent on death row. If he confesses, at least he can have a modicum of decency. His dreams are over. A trial will make this horrible case so much worse for surviving victims. I wish his lawyer would tell him, look, Bud, the evidence is there, better to take a plea if possible. Jmo

One thing I keep getting hung up on... how far in advance did CL know he was moving to Alaska. Did Erin know? Was this rendez vous a good bye? Did he not know about the baby and make a quick decision to rid of her?

I am waiting... just waiting for his wife to claim battered woman syndrome... anyone else?

Someone in the military knows the date of their ETS the day they join. Unless he re-enlists, that's his target date to get out of the military. Their service contract is in exact years. For instance, my husband joined the military on June 2, 1969. His ETS date was June 1, 1971. We knew that the whole time. He had an addition 4 years or until June 1, 1975 where he was inactive reserves before he got his final discharge papers. So CL knew exactly when he was getting out of the military. There was a notation on his service record that someone posted here up above, that he did not re-enlist in 2013 which would have been when he made the decision to get out on July 7, 2014. HTH Whether Erin knew what his ETS date was, I have no idea. However, I knew when all my friends in the military's husbands were going to separate from the service. I knew who was "short" and who wasn't.

Who did he ask how to dispose of a human body? Wow, he was dumb. But even still, these military guys are trained to kill. I think many of them are desensitized. Just like I feel that many people who play violent video games are desensitized. Just look at Littleton shooting, Sandy Hook, movie theater in Aurora, and most recent shooting in Santa Barbara.... all of the shooters were huge gamers. Not to mention, the attitude of people addicted to gaming. As a teacher, I could tell who played video games as opposed to who did not. They got bored easily, had bad attitudes about working, etc. I am certain gaming messes up SOME people's heads.

BBM.... Military members are not " trained to kill " they are "trained to PROTECT " .

I honestly can't see him putting the tires down there to burn. Burning tires makes so much smoke that it would be seen from miles around. It would have called attention to the mine shaft and that's the last thing he would have wanted. That would have been a stupid move. No one has claimed this fool was a genius but even he has to know that burning tires down that shaft would have had everyone in the area within half an hour. IMO, FWIW.

I very strongly believe video games desensitize people in many ways. And for those who have mental health issues, it affects them even more so.

Why do you strongly believe that, and what do you mean by desensitize? Make more likely to scam, batter, rape, or murder?
If you have access to academic journals, do a literature search and read a bunch of the studies on this. Start with a recent article that gives good background on the issue and prior research, and then broaden your search. I wrote a research paper on this topic a few years ago and learned that strong cause and effect statements are not warranted here. Violent people tend to like violent games, so the fact that those who commit violence are slightly more likely to play violent video games is no proof. A classic correlation but not necessarily causation situation. It's impossible to do a true experiment here so we're stuck with observational studies, with lots of confounding variables. There are some experiments showing a reduction in empathy and an increase in aggression after playing a first-person shooter game, but the effects are fleeting (minutes), and so unlike battery, rape, or murder that their relevance is questionable. All of this said, I suspect that our violent media culture probably does make our society more violent overall, but I'll bet the easy availability of handguns is far more destructive. Finally, you did say, "I very strongly believe...", but not that you know this to be true. Sounds reasonable to me, because we all carry lots of beliefs around that aren't necessarily supported by quality evidence, and you might be right. E.O. Wilson said, "The human being would rather believe than know." When knowing is difficult or impossible, a belief comes relatively easy, especially if its comforting.
