Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Silicone Valley parents limit electronics

http://www.businessinsider.com/screen-time-limits-bill-gates-steve-jobs-red-flag-2017-10

In 2007, Gates, the former CEO of Microsoft, implemented a cap on screen time when his daughter started developing an unhealthy attachment to a video game. He also didn't let his kids get cell phones until they turned 14. (Today, the average age for a child getting their first phone is 10.)

Jobs, who was the CEO of Apple until his death in 2012, revealed in a 2011 New York Times interview that he prohibited his kids from using the newly-released iPad. "We limit how much technology our kids use at home," Jobs told reporter Nick Bilton.

But if her accelerator was stuck, and she wanted to stop the car, why turn right towards the deadly cliffs?

And why not call 911 from the cell and get help?

On this google drive, you can see, right before the turn out, the left side of the road has a bunch of low shrubbery and a ditch, relatively flat for yards and yards.

So if my accelerator was stuck, I'd turn left, and go into the ditch, not right, and go towards the cliffs over the rocky ocean floor.

Yes, that makes the most sense, assuming the driver was thinking clearly and a passenger wasn’t grabbing at the wheel. So let’s hope the black box tells the story. I just hate for it to be deliberate, but it looks like it probably is.

I have met people here on vacafion from Silicone Valley. They tell me that people from there send their kids to Waldorf schools and totally limit electronics.

I meet people from all over the world and when we talk kids and issues, they guve the universal two thumbs as if they are moving on an electronic device. Parents around the world despair about electronics. Yet, we all supply kids with them.

Kids pick up electronics super quick.

I am not a fan of homeschooling or isolating children.

With the needs the kids have, I cannot believe having them 24-7 with no break for adult time is sustainable.

I bet they got static from anti gay people as well as the black community who does not look kindly upon whites adopting children who are not white.

Did they ever get adult time? Did they get counseling on raising children with trauma?

Doesn’t Bill Gates talk about screen time and kids? I have to look that up.

I never said anything about them having electronics, 24/7. Obviously it needs to be in moderation. My son doesn't let their 3 yr old watch tv or play on a computer at all yet. They do believe in the free study, anti-electronic attitude, for YOUNG CHILDREN.

But this family had 14, 15,16 yr olds, and a 19 yr old. Teens that age need to have social contact with other kids. And they need to learn to master technology if they plan to go to college and apply for good jobs.

When I first saw DH in the viral photo last week in my local news online, my first thought was wow! That poor child is a victim of intense abuse :(
I knew only that he was missing and that most of his family were deceased as per the article at that point. There was the explanation that he was upset about ferguson, but I thought it was misunderstood by all ( the world audience viewing the image) honestly, as I saw personal pain and despair in his eyes and felt he was overwhelmed by his own circumstances in life, not racial despair. His pain is palpable and evokes tears from me for HIM, not racial inequality. This is a PERSONAL issue he is expressing grief over :(

This image immediately alerted me that there was more to the story, therefore I was not at all surprised by the intensity of the information coming out now.

I think all children and the dogs are deceased. It is possible that the 3 were killed elsewhere in a rage and mom was driving somewhat aimlessly after, but the most likely scenario is the obvious. All were in the vehicle at that time.

It it is possible that it was a spur of the moment event due to argumentation and stress about CPs involvement, but I'm leaning to premeditated and likely by both. Not an accident at all! The fact that all of the children were unbuckled tells me that mom wanted to utterly destroy them in life and in death! Mom(s) wanted to have their bodies wash away into the ocean to have even the possibility of burial and respect as sacred humans taken from them! Mom(s) wanted their remains found hence the seatbelts on :(

I am saddened that some have tried to downplay or discount the pleas for help as exaggerations by DH for attention or junk food etc. I know that rarely some kids might do this, but my experience is that kids DONT lie about these types of things, but they do ask for help with frank honesty if they feel safe as they are desperate and in need of help.. This mindset contributes to victimization and IMHO EVERY child deserves to be taken seriously as lives are at stake.

RIP beautiful children. I am sorry this happened to you

This case is very similar to the Turpin case IMHO.

Parents were likely aiming for the reality scenario in their minds eye too..

Further, what if the Turpin case impacted the decision to murder/suicide rather than let the scandal and degree of depravity hit the media?

I never really understood the 'penny in the pocket' thing. Why would she be angry about her kid having a penny ?

I don't know if it would affect a top-loading washing machine as much as a front-loader but I wondered if the penny had gone into the wash with the jeans?

Maybe she was paranoid that someone saw the daughter pick up the penny and would think the girl was stealing or giving the impression that she was living in poverty.

Germophobia?

The washing machine thing I imagine happens in a lot of family and might be cause for annoyance. But really none of these ideas should lead to the sort of beating that the girl apparently got, leaving her with bruises on her back and front...it's out of proportion for any broken rule or misbehavior? Especially if the cold bath and head held under water happened at the same time. That's not about a penny, that's about a violent control freak exerting power over a small child.

I also think the primary reason for running off to Wa was not death threats or judgement as LBGTQ or race. I think the real reason is that the viral image and the obvious pain within DH might bring folk around that could uncover the truth about the children's likely extreme abuse. I think the excuse bolstered their legitimacy as progressive poster family as they hoped, until shtf with another abuse allegation.

I also think that DH hugging the officer was another plea for help that he could not ask for verbally as his parents were nearby.

You may be right since there were comments from people near the photo incident who stated DH was crying BEFORE
the photo was taken and the cop came over to console him.

I think there was a pattern with this family moving shortly after each incident that either had authorities looking into
the family or neighbors or others exposing them in some way. I believe they were hiding lots of secrets and anyone spending much time around them would see some of the dysfunction. This is why they wanted the home they bought,
sitting on big lot, woods around them, in small town- No one looking over their shoulders. so they thought.

And lastly I think that driving over the cliff was the most expedient and effective way to kill 6 teens and remove the evidence so to speak, as well as stage an accident that might give them an out in the court of public opinion as loving progressive moms as tragic victims.

There are likely signs of long term abuse that needed to be covered up and distanced from by floating the children away into the Pacific.

They knew cps was going to ruin their reputation w the investigation as the abuse was likely over the top and the kids were old enough to talk candidly and believably.

If they simply shot or poisoned them ( how else to kill 6 at once w o them fighting back or escaping), or made them disappear then the world would know for sure they were guilty.. It is pretty obvious image was everything to this duo.

Exactly enelram..

People with anger and control issues don’t make sense. Why did Joan Crawford care about a wire hanger?

Having grown up with someone who would flip out about a penny in a pocket... I can take a few guesses. Maybe the kids aren’t allowed to have any money. Maybe the parent thought the child was stealing money. Maybe she thought a loose coin would scratch the inside of their washing machine. There could be a million other unreasonable “reasons”. And though you spend your time trying to avoid their wrath, you really never know what’s going to set them off.

Good points Taltos, also I'll bet the children were getting harder and harder to control. Imagine 6 teens plotting
against you within a home where they were being treated badly, abused, beaten or who knows what else.
You can try and hide a lot of things when the kids are small but as they aged it was a titanic task to keep them
quiet and submissive. I would like to hear something from Jen and Sarah's birth families or siblings.
Lots of mysteries here that may never be uncovered.

Holy mackerel!! That is a pristinely absolutely perfect show place of a home for a Friday night after a full work week in a house with so many kids and pets!

Of course it's possible to have a house that clean and have tons of kids. Not common but possible. However, coupled with everything else we know about these people...it's more red flags for me.

The impression I get (and I have no evidence of this) is that the kids probably had to do the household chores. If they weren’t going to school and they weren’t allowed electronics, and they were inside all the time, what were they doing? Scrubbing baseboards with a toothbrush and keeping things tidy. My mother grew up in a household like that. Five kids and it was spotless. The kids did the cooking, cleaning, laundry, babysitting.

Thank you enelram.

Pretty much exactly as I'm picturing the dynamic too.

I wonder if their family will speak candidly or stay out of the limelight. Certainly they are going through a great deal of shock and grief as this is unbelievably heartbreaking.

I have a feeling they they may be estranged from their families.

Absolutely I'm thinking Starkville..

My mom too but there were 12 sibs in her family and she was the oldest .

I'm an extreme left wing democratic socialist. I think I qualify as super liberal. I see nothing heroic about them. I find them to be totally repulsive, even before this. I was not impressed when I saw them drag the kid up there to hug the cop four years ago. I find the entire idea of someone adopting kids to make some type of political statement, to be disgusting.

Same. My politics are very much "to the left", but I don't see anything but narcissism and selfishness from this couple. They are not now (obviously) and never have been heroic.

Also politics being to the left doesn't mean one can't be skeptical. I think the ability to be rational, skeptical, objective about claims made and stories presented etc cuts across all the political/ideological spectrum (and the opposite is also true, people of all ideological stripes can be gullible and easily taken in). I think those are individual traits rather than fitting in with any kind of ideology.

FWIW, speedometers on GM vehicles of this vintage were known to have problems and the needle could stick at high speeds, even though the vehicle may never have attained that speed. Still need to wait for the event recovery data box.

Here's a report I hadn't seen. The neighbors, DeKalbs, who reported to CPS said when the daughter showed up at
their house at 1:30 am, she begged them "please, please, don't make me go back there."
And when Devonte came over begging for food, he said 'they're starving me to death".

Gruesome.

also in this report, the neighbors said someone from Mn. called them to shame them for calling CPS. When a reporter
called the person in Mn. to ask if they knew about the previous abuse conviction in Mn. the person said they just
found out about it.
Another Mn. friend said they moved away from Mn. after the abuse charge because family and friends did not agree
with their 'style' of parenting. So many red flags.
