So he lived right at the apex where he was setting the fires. If you look at the map upthread, where it has the fires colored by the dates he set them, you can see an arrow right to his home. LOL There is only one point on the map where he set a fire on all three nights, and it corresponds to his own home.

[ in the article it says he lived on Sunset, just steps away from some of the fires he set. ]

Uh-oh....get ready for the 'insanity' defense:

A document filed with the court in March, 2010, by Mr. Burkhart’s physician says he suffers from autistic spectrum disorder, severe anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and a sleeping condition.

“He is not stable mentally because of increase stress due to fear,” the document says.

The Burkharts both filed unsuccessful refugee claims in Canada.

Memo to everyone who "hates America": no one is keeping you here. Feel free to leave any time.

"A website for an erotic massage service based in Los Angeles is registered to a Dorothee Burkhart who shares the same Hollywood address as Harry Burkhart. The site advertises topless but non-sexual sessions by appointment only.

It was not immediately clear how long Dorothee and Harry Burkhart have lived in the Los Angeles area. Harry Burkhart was taken into custody on suspicion of arson early on Monday and was being held without bail. Prosecutors said they expected to formally charge him on Wednesday"

"Dr. Blaga Stancheva wrote in a letter dated March 23, 2010 that Harry Burkhart has suffered from autistic spectrum disorder since he was a young child and is "not stable mentally."

"Together with autism, he has severe anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, depression and a sleeping condition," the doctor wrote.

The letter was submitted as an exhibit by Burkhart's mother, Dorothee Burkhart, as part of a motion to move the date of a trial for a small claims case in which she was involved in B.C. provincial court. The mother said her son's "bad health condition" prevented him from appearing as a witness."

Yes, it was a kid who set a house being built on fire and he videotaped it all the while, IIRC.

"The suspect, who has been connected to more than 50 L.A. fires, and his mother, who is an alleged German gang member, briefly rented two supportive-housing Yaletown units in 2009.

Lorne Epp, executive director of More Than a Roof, told QMI Agency there was nothing suspicious about the pair during their four-month stay"

What I heard last night was, LE was directed to this guy by an officer of the court who recognized him from the video that was released. At first it was reported that he did this because of 'immigration' problems. It's not so much immigration problems as his mom was arrested because of a warrant out of Germany. He went into the courtroom, the week prior, where her hearing was being conducted and caused quite a ruckus. That's how the officer of the court remembered him.

Yesterday, his mom was in court on her legal trouble and she started problems because she wanted to know about her son. The judge told her he was fine and this wasn't about her son. :banghead:

These two are trouble, any way you look at it. He's not mental, per se, just evil, IMHO. His mom, allegedly, is a thief.

Hollywood arson suspect set to be in court

Authorities said he went on the rampage because of the legal troubles of his mother, Dorothee Burkhart. They said he started the fires just a day after she was arrested on 19 charges of fraud in Germany, including failure to pay for breast augmentation and failure to return security deposits on apartments she rented to tenants.

Federal agents helped identify Burkhart on surveillance tapes because he had a big outburst during his mother's first court appearance for her case.

Snipped and BBM.
I'm so grateful for that video tape! I have become a huge proponent of cameras everywhere. Since I'm not involved in any nefarious activities, I am glad there are cameras all over recording my comings and goings. If I ever go missing, or anyone I love does, I really hope cameras will be able to reveal where I was and who came into contact with me. I have never been a fan of 'big brother', but I have changed my tune the more I learn about cases where folks have disappeared seemingly without trace. The heartbreaking Leiby tragedy last summer tipped the scale for me. Without those cameras, LE and his family might not have ever learned what happened to him.

...Carney told the court Burkhart would flee the country if he was allowed out of jail on bond, but Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Upinder Kalra said he had no choice but to set bail. To go free while awaiting trial, Burkhart must post a $2.85 million bond and surrender his German passport.

It was revealed that Burkhart is also under investigation for arson and fraud in relation to a fire in Neukirchen, near Frankfurt, Germany.

The worst arson sprees in the city's history began last Friday morning with a car fire in Hollywood that spread to apartments above a garage, but no new fires have happened since Burkhart was arrested Monday, Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley said....
