Dublin: march set for missing school girl Ilene Misheloff
Twenty nine years after she vanished, Ilene Misheloff will be remembered in a candlelight march 7 p.m. Tuesday along the route she was last seen walking before her suspected kidnapping.

Family, friends and supporters will gather at Wells Middle School, 6800 Penn Drive, Dublin, and then march to St. Raymond Catholic Church on Shannon Avenue. The girl was 13 when she vanished.

Ilene was walking from school to the Dublin Iceland rink for skating lessons when she vanished Jan. 30, 1989.

Since that time, friends and family have held a vigil on the day she disappeared.

Dublin: Supporters walk to remember Ilene Misheloff
Dozens turned out in Dublin on Tuesday night for a candlelight vigil and community walk to honor Ilene Misheloff, a 13-year-old Dublin girl who disappeared while walking home after school in 1989.

Each year, family, friends and supporters from the community gather to recreate the two-mile walk she took that ill-fated day in 1989 and keep hope alive that she will return safely. Many carried signs that read "Help Bring Ilene Home" as they walked through Dublin.

Golden State Killer suspect's arrest brings hope to families and detectives in other cold cases
The arrest of the Golden State Killer suspect near Sacramento for crimes committed four decades ago, has given new hope to other victims' families and investigators still searching for answers in their own cold cases.

But hope can be hard for victims' families who often face daily heartbreak, with no answers. It is also difficult for detectives who devote years, even entire careers, trying to solve cases.

"It's difficult for the family and it's difficult for you because in my experience in working cold cases, is you live it. You live it for years. And that's where you put the vast majority of your efforts," said Lopes, "you pray that you can bring satisfaction."

Some families, such as Mike and Maddie Misheloff in Dublin, say Tuesday's arrest also reminds them that advances in DNA analysis can help find answers. Their daughter Ilene disappeared 29 years ago. Her DNA is now registered with the FBI's database.

"Never give up hope," said Mike Misheloff.

"What they can do with it now, to identify, unidentified bodies, perpetrators, felons, killers, rapists, is amazing," said Maddie Misheloff.

Sadly, I do not believe Ilene is alive. IMO also I do not feel that any of the suspects named prior to be responsible. It is my feeling that it is someone local. Someone who could watch these kids walking home, using that riverbed as a shortcut. The reason I believe this is the backpack. If this were a random stranger ,who happened to just spot her, why risk coming back and placing the backpack to be found later. If she actually made it to the other side of the street, where the key fob and backpack were found, she would be very hard to spot from the main road (San Ramon rd), even back then

I certainly hope, ongoing investigation of persons living near that area, with questioning continuing, even years later, may provide evidence.

Here in Australia, after >30 years, we have an arrest.
This doesn't involve a young girl, but with podcasts, ongoing inquests, and further investigation there was an arrest just before Christmas.
Most following the case on Websleuths, pointed to this Creep.

Look here....CA - Jaycee Dugard, 11, South Lake Tahoe, 10 June 1991 - #1

There is some suspicion that she was abuducted by the same person(s) who abducted another little girl from South Lake Tahoe named Jaycee Dugard.

James Anthony Daveggio has been considered as a possible suspect in Dugard's abduction since the early 1990s. He and his former girlfriend, Michelle Lyn Michaud, were charged with the 1997 abduction, rape and murder of Vanessa Swanson. Swanson's remains were discovered approximately five miles from the site of Dugard's 1991 abduction. Photos of Daveggio and Michaud are posted below this case summary. They were also charged with additional counts of sexual assault in unrelated cases in the mid-1990s. Michaud claims that she met Daveggio in 1996 and therefore was not involved in Dugard's abduction. There are striking similarities between Michaud and the female suspect in Dugard's case. However, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has created a timeline tracing Michaud and Daveggio's whereabouts over the 1980s and 1990s and they say the pair could not have abducted Dugard.
Daveggio is also considered a possible suspect in the disappearances of Amber Swartz-Garcia, Michaela Garecht and Ilene Misheloff. Neither he nor Michaud has been charged in connection with any of the disappearances.
A defrocked priest named Stephen Kiesle became a suspect in Dugard's abduction in mid-2002. He was suspected because has since been arrested and charged with molesting three girls at the Santa Paula Catholic Church in Fremont, where he worked from 1968 to 1971. Kiesle did not know Dugard and denies any involvement in her case. Police searched his yard three times, using cadaver-sniffing dogs, radar, and a backhoe. They were looking not only for evidence in Dugard's disappearance but also evidence in the 1989 kidnapping of Amber Swartz-Garcia. They found no clues pertaining to either case and the searches concluded in July 2002.
Authorities have also investigated the possibility that Brian David Mitchell and his wife, Wanda Barzee, abducted Dugard. Photographs of Mitchell and Barzee are posted below this case summary. They are charged with the abduction and sexual assault of fourteen-year-old Elizabeth Smart of Salt Lake City, Utah. Smart was kidnapped from her bedroom in June 2002 and held captive for nine months before being rescued in March 2003. Mitchell, also known as David Emmanuel Isiah, has bizarre religious beliefs and reportedly thought God told him to make Smart his wife.
The police are investigating similarities between Smart's and Dugard's cases. The two victims physically resemble each other, and Dugard's stepfather says Barzee resembles the woman he saw abduct Dugard. Mitchell and Barzee have not been charged in connection to Dugard's abduction, however, and authorities are not certain if either was involved.

My hope is that with the 30th anniversary of Ilene’s disappearance there will be a lot of publicity, and perhaps someone will come forward with information. I have not yet seen any information about this year’s walk, but I will post it as soon as I see it. I’m also hoping to find out if touch DNA has been done on her backpack.

That is what I am hoping for. I hope that more attention, and the help of Websleuths, will bring more information to light for Ilene. She deserves it, as does her family.

Jewels, check out the site below.
For years Websleuth followers posted, and when podcasts were produced, bringing > millions of people checking this out, we have an arrest!!!!!!!!
Perhaps reach out to Hedley Thomas, who won an award for his work.
Something like this, is required.
When you read about police involvement, inquests etc you will see how this case proceeded.

I posted this on another thread in order to get some help getting her NCMEC page reinstated. I did email them but have not heard anything back yet, another member on this page also tried that but has not heard back. Any ideas?

I need some guidance here. I learned from another WS member that a missing person whose page I am following, has had her profile/page/information page removed from NCMEC. Anyone know why that would be, and how do i get it all back on there? Apparently the other member has tried and has not been successful in getting anyone to answer. Any tips would be appreciated.

This question concerns the disappearance of Ilene Misheloff, Dublin CA missing 1/30/89

EDIT: Adding her NCMEC file number , or what it used to be

Several classmates reported seeing Ilene walking alone on Amador Valley Boulevard near Village Parkway and the Shamrock Shopping Center in the afternoon; she vanished shortly afterwards. She was taking a shortcut home, going through a wide alley behind a shopping center, a furniture store called the Sawmill, and Gallagher's Pub, then across the boulevard and through John Mape Park along a dry creek bed.

Ilene has never been seen again. She was carrying a dark blue backpack at the time of her disappearance. The backpack was later found abandoned in the creek bed in John Mape Park

near where she was last seen. It was located after the area had already been searched; authorities believe someone may have placed it there after Ilene's disappearance.

Authorities announced that Timothy Bindner (Killer seeks new trial; juror Timothy Bindner was suspect in girls’ disappearances – East Bay Times
2009 ) had a possible connection to Ilene's case, as well as the disappearances of Michaela Garecht, Tara Cossey and Amanda "Nikki" Campbell.

Amanda Nicole Eileen Campbell – The Charley Project

WS:
CA - CA - Amanda Campbell, 4, Fairfield, 27 Dec 1991 )

A photo of Bindner is posted with this case summary. He maintains his innocence and successfully sued Amanda's hometown of Fairfield, California in 1997 for defamation of character.

Bindner, a married sewage treatment plant worker, came to authorities' attention after he began sending birthday greetings to young girls in the East Bay area. One child's parents contacted authorities and handed over a letter Bindner had written to their daughter. The note was printed backwards and could only be deciphered by holding it up to a mirror. Bindner claimed he sent the cards as a kind gesture because the girls were "lonely."

Bindner also visited the Oakmont Cemetery gravesite of Angela Bugay,
(https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/10062232/angela-jane-bugay)
a five-year-old girl girl who was abducted and murdered in Antioch, California in 1983. A photograph of Bugay is posted with this case summary. Bindner was never considered a suspect in her murder and another man has since been arrested in that case.

For many years Bindner was also considered a suspect in the June 1988 disappearance of Amber Swartz-Garcia from Pinole, California.

(Amber Jean Swartz-Garcia – The Charley Project

WS:
CA - Amber Jean Swartz-Garcia (7) - Pinole CA, 1988 )

Bindner approached many of the mothers of missing girls from the East Bay area offering his assistance, including Amber and Michaela's families. He introduced himself to Amber's three days after Amber vanished.

Investigators asked her to maintain a quasi-friendship with Bindner in hope of learning if he was connected to any of the girls' cases. She and authorities agreed that Bindner appeared to playing mind games with victims' loved ones and law enforcement. Many people theorize that he enjoyed taunting families into thinking that he may have been involved in the presumed abductions. He was once arrested for annoying two little girls whom he was trying to lure into his van, but the charges were later dropped.

Bindner often drove around in a light blue Dodge van with a license plate that said "Lov You." Inside the van was wallpapered with many pictures of children. A photograph of the van is posted with this case summary.

Bindner refers to himself as a "good Samaritan." He asked Linda Golston, a reporter for The San Jose Mercury News, to interview him at Oakmont Cemetery at 4:30 a.m. He played his favorite song on her car stereo, "Jesus, Here's Another Child To Hold." Bindner told Goldston that he thought of the missing girls as "his children." She asked him how he believed the abductions occurred and he said one child was submissive, but another fought back against her assailant. Bindner added that he was "guessing" about the girls' reactions.

Bindner wrote a letter to a law enforcement agency in the late 1980s, stating that he believed the next girl who would be abducted from the area would be about nine years old. Michaela disappeared shortly thereafter; she was nine at the time of her abduction. Bindner also sent a holiday card to a profiler for the FBI in 1990. The card depicted an image of a young girl holding up four fingers. Amanda vanished in 1991 at the age of four.

Search dogs traced Amanda and Amber's scent to Bugay's grave. Authorities never had enough evidence to prove Bindner was connected to their cases, although he was known for visiting the cemetery on occasion. Bindner was given a heroism award by the California State Patrol after assisting victims in the 1989 San Francisco earthquake. He has never been charged in connection with any of the cases.

James Daveggio has been considered as a possible suspect as well. He and his former girlfriend, Michelle Lyn Michaud, were charged with the 1997 abduction, rape and murder of Vanessa Lei Sampson (Victim tearfully describes brutal rape (1999) )

Photos of Daveggio and Michaud are posted with this case summary. They were also charged with additional counts of sexual assault in unrelated cases in the mid-1990s. In 2002, Michaud and Daveggio were convicted of Sampson's murder and sentenced to death. They are awaiting execution.

Curtis Dean Anderson, who was convicted of the 2000 kidnapping and molestation of a young California girl,
(WS:
GUILTY - CA - Xiana Fairchild, 7, abducted & murdered, Vallejo, 9 Dec 1999
WS: Police looking into cases of Michaela Garecht and Ilene Misheloff ) was also mentioned as a possible suspect in Ilene's case. Investigators searched Anderson's mother's residence in June 2001 for evidence linking him to other missing girls' cases, but nothing was located. In 2009, however, they announced that Anderson had confessed to Amber's murder a month before he died in prison in 2007, and they were closing her case and ending the search for her. (Pinole police: Curtis Dean Anderson killed Amber Swartz – East Bay Times (2009/2016) )
Police spent eighteen months investigating his statement and couldn't find any evidence to refute it. He is also considered a suspect in the 1999 disappearance of Karla Rodriguez.

Daveggio is also considered a possible suspect in Michaela's disappearance. Neither he nor Michaud has been charged in connection with any of the cases. Ilene remains missing and her case is unsolved. She was a good student and dreamed of becoming a pediatrician, and she was an accomplished figure skater who won medals locally.
