IMO when the car sinks (and Hondas are tight which could explain the distance from shore) the front with engine aims down. The last place in the vehicle with air pockets is usually the rear. This could be the most likely explanation of a victim being found in the back part of a vehicle JMO
Thank you for this. Sometimes we get so lost in sleuthing what happened, we forget about things as simple as when a car sinks the front with engine aims down. I read that when AWP brings up a vehicle, they lift up the front end first so they don't lose objects out of a compromised windshield. They want everything to shift toward the back - as long as the rear end is intact.

AWP did not bring up this vehicle. They tied a buoy to it and LE took over from there. AWP didn't touch it. jmo

The extraction video is posted in the Maps/Timelines/Media thread.

Many of us watched that activity live on KCRA's YT channel. The car was upside down with the nose pointing directly away from the shore (toward the deeper water). I am not sure if this part is included in that video, but the LE team turned the car over, onto its wheels, then dragged it out back-end first.

I missed this somehow:

"Anna Larson is the mother of one of Kiely's best friends, and is also Lindsey's best friend. She told DailyMail.com that Kiely was too drunk to be able to drive herself home."

I personally think she probably was too drunk to be able to drive herself home. I think the problem was that she didn't realize that she was, and probably attempted to drive home anyway, and that is why she ended up driving into the water.

This woman is Kiely's friend, Mags', mother, and Mags left the party with her bf, ten minutes after arriving, so unless Kiely was drunk when she got there, Mags wasn't there to know what shape she was in at the end of the evening. Unless that mother was at the party herself, all she could have known was what she was told by other kids that were there, probably inebriated too. JMO

I have asked a mod if I can link the video, because right after the previous bit I mentioned, it seems to be suggested that if the airbags deploy, the seatbelts will lock. It gets cut off partially through though. This isn’t something I’d heard before.
<rsbm>

Go ahead and link it rhino.

I don't think this has been mentioned here yet, but in the NYPost photo I noticed that Kiely's front wheels were pointing to the left as the car was hauled out. If the car was in gear, could she have been in a left-hand turn when the car entered the water?

So we can disagree but not put down the poster personally, or is disagreeing considered a put down. As long as we are respectful, we can disagree, iirc.

Disagreeing is fine. It's the putdowns and ridiculing that we have a big issue with. There is never a reason to be rude toward others and it's a violation of TOS to do so.

Respectful disagreement is part of mature discussion as long as it's done civilly.

Back to the case at hand. Any more questions, please jump off any post with the Report feature to ask and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

I will go find a source and edit, but LE stated clearly and often that no one saw her leave.

It is possible they have more information now that has not been shared with the public.

Adding sources:

Just because no one saw her leave doesn't mean that she didn't say goodbye to anyone. The vehicles were parked a bit from the actual party spot - she could have talked to people and said goodbyes casually as she prepared to walk back to the parking area.
To me, at least, "no one saw her leave" only means that no one saw her step into a vehicle and drive/be driven away. JMO and I could be wrong!

Yes, possibly. Or over corrected and rolled it.

I noticed that the tires were to the left also. In some photos of the area (older), I noticed circular tire tracks on the beach, likely from people spinning donuts for fun. It could be possible that she (or someone driving) was doing donuts and rolled / slid into the water accidentally.

The strap part tightens across your chest. It 'locks'....and holds you back.

But then you can still unclip it from the holder.

When the airbags deploy, the retractors lock. This lets accident investigators see which seat belts were actually in use. A seatbelt around a passenger will be loose, one that was not in use will be flat -- and they all have to be replaced.

Hubby's buddies are state troopers, one teaches accident investigation at the academy. Plus, I had a fender-bender in April & we learned plenty about Honda safety features!

FWIW, I checked to see if the 4th generation CR-V (2011-16) had a manual transmission option, and the answer is no, not in North America.

Not related to this case, but it is unfortunate Honda discontinued for most current vehicles here. They even dropped the Accord recently. My Element was a manual, as was my Fit. Both were excellent vehicles. A friend had a Pilot many years ago that was a manual. (2000 or so)

Manuals are getting VERY hard to find, and have been for a few years now. :(

So relating to cases in general, I would be surprised if a kid had an accident with one. I do know a few kids who can drive them, but even living where I do, in a small town, a lot of people around me never learned.
