Family Response to Recent Stories About Reet Jurvetson in The News

By Anne Jurvetson, May 3, 2016
I am grateful for the outpouring of support and all the heartfelt wishes of condolence, during this exceedingly difficult time.

This website was published with the hope that it would be useful to the authorities, and help the media at large. Thankfully, this has been the case.

I do wish to specify however, I have never once granted an interview to any media outlet. Police detectives were the only ones who interviewed me. On April 18, I sent the LAPD the “Official Family Statement“, well in advance of the public announcement of Reet’s identification. Quotes attributed to me, by the media, are from these sources.

Neither I nor my immediate family ever, directly or indirectly, granted exclusive scoops, that some would claim to have obtained. We have never profited from Reet’s death through some sort of arrangement with journalists.

RIP Reet Silvia Jurvetson you was a very beautiful young lady would should have live a long life maybe gotten married with a couple of kids, and right now might have been a grandmother, but your lie was taken away from you, I am so glad that you have your name back and your family now knows what happen. But I would like to know from my fellow websleuthers if they determine what type of knife was use to stab her? Was it a buck knife? The reason why I asked because most members of the Manson Family use to carried buck knives with them, in fact that was what use to killed Sharon Tate and the others in the summer of 1969. Also is it possible to tried to find any of the former members of the Manson Family to see if any of them can remember Reet of any male member named John, Jean would stay at the ranch in the summer or fall of 1969. Remember the detectives might have to speak to former members would were still up there still I believe Charles Manson might have been in jail at that time, but I could be wrong. Remember too that after Charles and the others were arrested and in jail a lot of new people show up at the ranch wanting to be members.

Los Angeles police Detective Luis Rivera said investigators interviewed Charles Manson, 81, a few months ago about Jurvetson killing but uncovered no new information.

Though detectives haven't found any concrete link between Jurvetson and the Manson family killings, they haven't ruled it out, Rivera said.

He pointed out that Jurvetson was stabbed like most other Manson victims, and that her body was found near the site of some of the Tate killings in the same three-month period.

"We don't rule anything out," Rivera said. "Everything is on the table until proven otherwise."

Rivera said detectives are trying to track down their best lead, a man known as either "John," or the name's French pronunciation, "Jean." Jurvetson met the man in Toronto before flying to Los Angeles to see him the summer of 1969, he said.

Police hope renewed media attention will generate tips leading to the man and other witnesses.

Sandi Gibbons, a retired reporter who covered the Manson trial, said she doubts Jurvetson's killing is connected to the Manson family murders.

Manson and many of his followers had been arrested the month before Jurvetson's death, and
Gibbons pointed out that Mulholland Drive was a well-known dumping ground for bodies in the 1960s and 1970s.

"It doesn't feel like a Manson killing," said Gibbons, who later became a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

FWIW, I think Reet resembles Sharon Tate, especially in the eyes and mouth :

She is still showing on Doe network.

http://doenetwork.org/cases/358ufca.html

Her Doe net profile is updated - IDENTIFIED....IDENTIFIED....IDENTIFIED - surprised to see they didn't use any of my links.

I've read that some believe she could have been Claudia Smith. I know Claudia and she is alive and well today.

Thanks dotr.
Yes, Claudia Leigh Smith (AKA Sherry, Beth, Collie, etc...) is very much alive. I'm not sure whatever happened to her husband William Vansickle as I haven't seen him in a few years.

Nearly half a century after the body of an unidentified young woman is found stabbed to death in Los Angeles, three childhood friends from Montreal identify her as their long lost friend – Reet Jurvetson.

Now the Los Angeles and Montreal police are trying to piece together the final weeks of Jurvetson’s life and are seeking the public’s help in solving a 46-year-old mystery – who killed Reet Jurvetson?

When this crime was committed in 1969, homicide detectives were limited by the fact that they didn’t know the identity of the victim and by the investigative tools of the day – there was no DNA, no shared computer databases among police agencies, no Internet to share information with the public.

But today there are new avenues of investigation that weren’t possible when Jurvetson was killed.

Very long shot, but the composite of "Jean/John" reminded me somewhat of this E-fit composite of a 40ish poi in a 1991 murder case in UK, where the woman was stabbed approx 50 times.fwiw, imo, speculation.

Penny Bell was found slumped over the steering wheel of her Jaguar XJS in the car park of a leisure centre in Greenford, west London, on June 6 1991. She had been stabbed and slashed 50 times in the chest and arms with a long knife.

Who is he?': Sketch shows 'person of interest' at heart of probe into Canadian woman's brutal 1969 killing

the fifth estate has learned the LAPD has a new lead that they will be releasing publicly next week
By Ronna Syed, CBC News Posted: Sep 02, 2016

Police believe Reet Jurvetson stayed with two men named Jean in the weeks before her disappearance. They are calling Jean No. 2 (right) a 'person of interest' in the case because Jurvetson, then 19, had gone to L.A. to specifically visit him. These sketches show how the men would have looked in 1969. (the fifth estate)

"We call him a person of interest until we find out who he is," Det. Lou Rivera, the Los Angeles Police Department's lead detective in the case, told the fifth estate's Bob McKeown in an interview.
"He's definitely someone who's at the heart of the investigation because she came to visit him," said Rivera. "So our question is who is he? Where did he live? Why didn't he report her missing?
Green does not remember the surnames of either Jean, both of whom she and Reet knew from Montreal.

As part of the fifth estate investigation, Green sat down with two sketch artists to create images of the two Jeans.
She remembers Jean No. 1, who she ran into in Montreal in 1970, as being "short," in the five-foot-six-inch range, having black hair, blue eyes and a French accent.
Jean No. 2, whom Jurvetson went to visit in L.A., is described as being more than five feet nine inches in height, with brown eyes and long hair feathered back in 1969

I'm not sure what was going on last night; article couldn't be found, nothing was coming up in their search using Reet Jurvetson either until I put her name in google. I didn't realize they had as much as they do. Here is the instagram and twitter, sounds like they have things narrowed down, someone spoke to Jean, he said she's happy, she left. She never showed up at her brothers

L.A. police seek 2 men linked to Montreal woman killed near Manson site
rbbm.
Sep 9, 2016

Los Angeles police hope two Montreal men who may be named Jean can help solve a 1969 homicide whose victim — 19-year-old Montrealer Reet Jurvetson — was only identified this year.

In November 1969, a birdwatcher in the brush near Mulholland Drive in L.A. came upon the body of a woman who had been stabbed 150 times. No ID was found and she was listed as Jane Doe #59.
In April, more than 46 years later, she was identified as Jurvetson, a West Hill High School graduate who moved to L.A. in 1969. The break in the case came after a friend saw her photo on an unsolved-crimes website and contacted Jurvetson’s sister, Anne, who provided a DNA sample to police.
Now, L.A. police have sketches of two men who may have been in contact with Jurvetson in 1969, LAPD detective Luis Rivera told the Montreal Gazette. Both may have been named Jean.
Police say they could help piece together Jurvetson’s last days.
One shows a longhaired man who resembles The Doors singer Jim Morrison. He was seen with Jurvetson at The Image, a Montreal coffee house, according to several reports. Jurvetson told friends she was going to L.A. to meet him. A waiter at the café told La Presse in May that the man was a medical student.
The Image, on Parc Ave., near Prince-Arthur St., was “frequented by young people variously described as hippies, ‘summer’ hippies and teenybobbers,” the Gazette reported in 1968. It was said to be a drug den and criminal-biker hangout.
