I am not sure if the cases are connected but it could very well be that someone turned in the other one and gave the investigators in Leila's case the suspect they needed. Only speculation on my part because I do find it odd that they just happen to find a home where kids were home alone and it's not like it's on a main road. It would be nice to have her case solved but I'm on the fence with them being connected.

The male was recently busted in a sting whereby contractors were misrepresenting themselves. He apparently has drywall experience. Highly speculative on my part, but LE would know in a heart beat.

Just a thought for those speculating on why there is no sketch. Early on, LE said they expected a sketch to be released soon. They may have been relying mostly on the female neighbor's description, who we now know recanted or refused to cooperate. It is entirely possible that upon "encountering the intruder in the home", the brother only got a look at the back pf the perp, hence the description of hair/body type only. Perp could have been fleeing when brother encountered him.

SnapDragon. You speculated days ago that a "handyman" (handyman is my word) could unwittingly stumble upon something that was troublesome. What do you think about the reverse; someone unwittingly hires a handyman that is troublesome?

At this point, I pray its any one of a million reasons.... other than the logical but unimaginable ones:please:

If I understand your fears/logic correctly; I don't think so. Hope that you are vetted soon.

I dont think so. If a hired handyman was the perp, we'd have a solid description from whoever hired him, right? My earlier thoughts were wondering if the father might have done business unknowingly with the wrong person. Now, i pretty much suspect LF was stalked by a pedophile. But stranger things have happened...look at the case in my town that brought me to WS- the Sandra Cantu. Everyone thought at first that was a pedophile, but the crime was motivated by a sick, warped jealousy, and committed by a woman!!

Perhaps I am over the top when I say this. But the arrest date of the male may have been obfusicated. Then the female was arrested five days later. Why five days? May 02 + 4 = May6. When did evidence reports start to trickle in? LE made what to me was an extremely odd comment about the thoroughness of the data collection. He said something along the lines of ".... this is a 12 year old girl....." I appreciate the spirit, and the reality, but the quality of the investigation should not be modulated by the characteristics of the victim. Final line of the Pledge of Allegiance. His job is PR. I wonder if we was distracted.

I realize that I am perhaps overly optimistic and overly speculative, but I hope that LE is primarily working on the court case and that the perp is in hand. There are a few days left before Placerville LE is to claim the male. I don't know the significance of this time frame. I only hope that closure is at hand. My fear is that this case goes cold.

Grrrr....Im coming to the conclusion that MSM and MSN are pretty similar to a sponsor or shock driven magic show...

ABC says "expected" to give an update... exactly 1 minue AFTER LE says they are suspended... ?????

It drives me crazy. ABC 7 is the same - and the one and only - news station that said a few days ago that LE is focusing in on the family.

It's ridiculous. What has happened to ethical, reliable news reporting?

BBM. No way would LE say this about bringing closure for the family who just lost their little girl to a horrific murder, if they were getting ready to arrest another family member.

That is also the way I read it.

Been going over the early part of Thread #1 today. I still firmly do NOT believe the 12yo did this. But there are lots of inconsistencies in the various accounts that could cause confusion when trying to decipher what actually happened. From these one could suppose 1) he chased the intruder from the home, 2) he encountered the intruder in the home, or 3) he found the intruder "when he entered" (her room? He was already IN the home...). If he saw the intruder when "he entered" her room, seems likely he'd have seen more than the intruder's back, unless the intruder left through a bedroom window. All this to say, it's no wonder we can't figure things out:

Calaveras Sheriff's Deputy Captain Macedo has identified the 8 year-old victim of the stabbing incident in Valley Springs as Leila Fowler. Leila Fowlers 12 year-old brother is the person who first found the victim and called his parents to tell them his sister was on the floor and not responding.
The brother reports there was an intruder in the home who ran away when the brother entered, the 12 year-old has not yet been identified as a suspect. The parents were away from the home at a baseball game with another of their children when the incident occurred.

Fowler's 12-year-old brother was in the home when she was killed, and he reportedly chased off the male intruder. The boy returned home to find his sister injured, possibly from stab wounds. She later died at a nearby hospital. Captain Macedo said the 12-year old is not considered a suspect in his sister's death. Macedo says the parents were attending a community event when the incident occurred.
Macedo points out that they have taken fingerprints and DNA from the crime scene. He says that tips have come in from other counties, so different law enforcement agencies are involved with the investigation. Those agencies include the Angels Camp PD, San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office, Amador County Sheriff's Office, Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office, CHP and the California Department of Justice. The FBI has also been notified. Written by BJ Hansen

It's ridiculous. What has happened to ethical, reliable news reporting?

It never really existed. Not even the early days of news-print. (17th/18th century). And Televised news? What you see in those 2-3 min news segments are just a summary reporting where accuracy isn't as important as hooks, teasers, tone and making sure you stay tuned through the next commercial break.

If you are looking for "ethical, reliable news reporting" stay away from the television. You certainly wont find it there. The internet is worse and unfortunately, much of the print is AP regurgitation.

If, however, you are looking for a basic summary of "whats happening" with an understanding that it wont be 100% accurate, then watch/read away. You'll get the gist. Just don't assume its gospel.
