Sorry to hear your going through such a hard time atm.
You did a great job remembering some things, also it’s nice to hear about the persons life and that they were loved.
I did find a Jeffrey Dodd in Claremont High 1977, not sure though as it is a fair way from San Diego
From Ancestry, there is a photo attached but won’t link here

Name: Jeffrey Dodd
Estimated Age: 16
Birth Year: abt 1961
Yearbook Date: 1977
School: Claremont High School
School Location: Claremont, California, USA

A websluether found his high school picture and i was spelling his name wrong.
It is Jeff. Daum
Sorry for the confusion
My little brother said it was Daub but i thought it was Dodd.

[Note: I'll just use initials of people found in Hoover yearbooks as CarlK did so previously in Bell Boy's thread, so I presume that's within the rules.] The closest name I could find to Jeff Dodd in any of the mid-70s (I looked at 1973 through 1977) San Diego Herbert Hoover High School yearbooks was JD (last name not being Dodd, there were no Jeff Dodds in any of the yearbooks). He was in the 1976 yearbook as a sophomore, but not in the 1977 yearbook. That would be consistent with what you were saying about how your brother may have later gone to a continuation/alternative school. In addition, he looks somewhat similar to the unidentified, in my opinion. The next closest was another person with the initials JD, but he was in three yearbooks from 1973 to 1975, which would probably make him too old to be your brother or the unidentified person. Here is the picture for the 1976 JD (I can't seem to get it to show up on the forum post because I've never tried it before, but the link will show it): Dropbox - 2019-08-09 at 12.16.44 AM.png

I was spelling his last name wrong its Jeff Daum
A websluether found it in the Herbert Hoover high school yearbook.
He had long brown hair and looked partly native American.
Thank you so much

Here are screenshots. I also made a clip for it.

This picture isn't of my brother. He had long brown hair and light brown greenish beautiful eyes.
I got his last name wrong and a websluether found him under Jeff Daum.
My brother said his last name was Daud so je was close and i was wrong.
I spoke to the coroner this morning and they are proceeding on with the investigation.
That morgue photo is my brother or a identical twin
Thank you so much,
Michelle

Take two...lol
The yearbook you found has Jeff Daum born in abt 1957 with a 73, 74, 75 photo, the school was Hoover High San Diego. Michelle did you look at them?
There is also a Dennis Lee Daum California, born in 1951, passed in 2009. Would you remember if they had a 5 or 6 year age gap? He also has one photo. Oh the Dennis mother name was Mary Daum (maiden name Merrill).

Could this be that same Jeff Daum? He's from San Diego, born on July 9, 1956—so he would've been 16, 17, 18 in the springs of '73, '74, and '75 respectively. Apparently he does have a criminal record, which would be consistent with the mentioned arrest. And his "past address" of 3626 Herman Ave is only an 11-minute drive away from 4739 Adams ave, the address cited above.

The counter-argument is that there's no mention of a "Dennis" (brother) or a "Mary" (Dennis' mother) linked to him. Also, his full name is listed as "Jeffrey Alan Daum"—is the middle name a match?

Good point, there is no concrete link to Dennis, he went to a different school but he was also with another family.
Im not sure the Jeffrey Alan Daum is correct as in 1979 he is listed as an accountant, could he have turned his life around? the good news would be he is alive if so. Will keep looking.

This sounds like my brother. Im not 100% positive on his brothers name and I don't remember his moms name. Is there a photo of him? Does this mean this Jeff Daum is alive? I'm new at this website but I'm trying my best to figure it out. I appreciate this so much. I did find the photo but that isn't my brother..it that photo of Dennis? Is
His arrest record for crimes such as vandalism or stealing food?

I did see the pictures from the Hoover high yearbook of Jeff Daum and that is my sweet brother. Im confused with the ancestry information but it looks to be correct to me. Do you believe my brother is alive??
I did message a Taryn Dodd on Facebook who was the daughter of a Jeff Daum who lived in San Diego, lemon grove and Fallbrook and it wasn't my brother. He was in his early 60's. I'm going to re read through all you wrote so i understand it better and write everything down.
Thank you so much,
Michelle

Sometimes as websleuths we throw everything out there to see what matches or not. I should have been more considerate in my words.
Hard to explain, sometimes Ancestry has “links” to other people with the same name but they are not related, I have done genealogy for a while and this is often the case. I’m sorry for any confusion to you. I personally don’t think atm the “Alan” tied to the photo is him. You described your brothers hard life and going to Los Angles and hitch hiking, it just doesn’t fit with the “Alan” being an accountant to me.
To be clear the photo Jeff has no definite link to Jeffrey A Daum.

Its ok..I'm so thankful for everyones kindness and helping me. I'm going to hold onto to any small amount of hope that someone out there did look exactly like my brother and there's always hope hes alive. Be had such a hard beginning but he was so so kind hearted and such a gentle human being i can't imagine that anyone could possibly hurt him and definitely never kill him. The ancestry dates seam like they could be him.
My brother would have been arrested for putting dye in a pool, stealing food and putting it under his bed and for attempting suicide.
I know he smoked pot and i remember he had at one time taken heroin but i believe he did actually smoke pot alot because i remember catching him doing that alot in some bushes by our house. He didn't think pot was a big deal and his friends called him doper..that was his nickname but my brother wasnt a bad person and i love and miss him.
I just feel in my heart there's no way he would have intentionally abandoned us. He called me every single week for well over a year and vistited us and it just abruptly stopped.
He could have turned his life around but in the 70's being so young I know it would have been very hard for him because at that time he had no help.
I hope hes alive
Thank you so much
Michelle

I lost my brother when he was seventeen (suicide), so I understand how you feel. The main difference is that I know how he died and what happened to him. I always wondered whether not knowing was worse than knowing your loved one was dead and their killer was still loose. I think, horrible as it may be, I'd go with the latter, because then at least one avenue of questions is closed up.
I hope you find your brother.
Blessed be.

From the bottom of my heart i am so sorry. I wish that didn't happen to you or your brother. I've had this sick gut feeling something wasn't ok for many years. I even had a MySpace before Facebook and I've always listed my phone number in my maiden name and I could never understand why he's never contacted me because I know he would.
I'm still holding on to the hope he's alive but I live in the reality he's probably not. I've sent messages to every Jeff Daum and any relatives associated with him in people searches & people are slowly answering me and so far none of them are him.
I know when I was younger for about a year I had night terrors and wake up our entire house screaming & my little brother said it was 1978 when I was doing that.
Oddly if that is my brother he died on the same day my son did but 10 years later exactly.
All I know is that morgue photo looks exactly like him. His hair bothers me because he LOVED his hair and I can't imagine him cutting it off and it looks like it hasn't been cut right like its uneven like jigjag.
If it is him I'll spend every last moment of my life trying to figure out who & why they killed my beautiful brother & I won't give up because I need to know the truth no matter how horrible it is because he means alot to me. His life went from bad, to worse, to even worse after that & I don't feel like he had a chance.
I've always wondered why people have kids if they're not going to love them or take care of them.
Im so sorry about your brother, I truely am,
Michelle
