This is a really horrible situation for a lot of reasons. It's not just a tragedy on the outcome for Lucy herself, but for the emotions her BF must be going through, and worse - her mom. :(

I thought so, too. The fact that she had just been in an argument with her mom. Her poor mother..

What keeps niggling at me is...if you were on the phone with your distraught, winded girlfriend, heard her scream etc, why wouldn't you call 911 (or a mutual friend, or her brother, etc). I am wondering how long she had been dating this guy and how acquainted he was with her inner circle.

Based on some of the reading I did thanks to the awesome links you provided, I don't get the sense that they were together very long. MOO.

Right now the key is to find the two males who have been using her credit cards. They seem to be the missing link. Their answers to some tough questions could solve this case. Of course that is if they tell the truth.

For instance, if they found the purse, with the cards in it, then it's likely she slipped on the gravel after being inebriated and unsteady on her feet and fell into the canal. Then these two opportunistic males found the purse and decided to go on a spending spree.

If they say they found the purse but were actually involved in her disappearance, then that's a whole other direction to go in. Hopefully, the police and their gut instinct will be able to separate the fact from fiction.

However, they need to search that canal. If two separate reports have come in, one stating someone was drowning in the canal and that is fact, she needs to be found and returned to her family. IMO

Could be her "running away" and the calls being a planned event!! Seems like there's too many answers actually of what "could of" happened to her!

I posted that before I watched the video of the dad pleading his daughter to come home! Now I am convinced he knows his daughter ran away and is hoping that she didn't drown! Id like more information about the boyfriend! Maybe the boyfriend and "victim" made all the convenient Phone calls just to throw everyone off! I hope she's okay wherever she is! I'm just thinking out loud!

The scenario in my mind is a mugging gone wrong and the panicked thief made a call to report a drowning woman. MOO. The cards were probably sold on.

im actually very familiar w this area. my friends who are sisters live off McKinley and first, on Floradora. the canal is very close to their house. the olive/Belmont side of their hood is very heavily hmong/southeast Asian. there is a lot of pedestrian and vehicle traffic at all hours. its a little bit rough.

I was going to ask how the area was...I'm from Cali but don't know Fresno well. This sounds pretty awful. What terrible timing and horrible luck for this poor girl.

Neighbors who live near the canal, women, are the ones who called in to report a drowning woman, right?

its possible that someone could have heard her. the houses are close and some back up to the canal. its also possible someone saw her get pushed in and anonymously called... the area isn't one for calling police if you get my meaning.

yes a car can fit. yes in some parts the banks are visible from the road. yes there is homeless.

its concerning to me the cards are being used as far away as madera. that is 30 min away and this isn't an area that is "connected" there is a vast expanse of rural between fresno and madera. im going to see if I can link some google street view of the area of the canal.

Agree 100000%

Using the cards in Madera sort of rules out homeless people using them. But, if she unknowingly walked up on a drug deal or something..... clearly something unexpected happened. yikes.

I do not for one second think her disappearance has anything to do with her boyfriend. GPS probably placed him far away during the call.

so if she was in the canal, ppl from the street could have seen as well as ppl in their house could have heard.

I cannot imagine what it would be like to see/hear that and not be able to do anything to save her. :(

I was thinking more like are they keeping tabs on him now. Maybe they're hanging out!

This is the direction I've been heading as well.

On Thursday, investigators focused on the Dry Creek Canal, covering a six mile area through Downtown Fresno.

Police said on Thursday that they did not find anything in the canal linking them to Xiong.

Lieutenant Mark Hudson said searching the canal is just one of many locations they are looking.

Hudson said they are also questioning the men accused of using Xiong's credit cards after her disappearance. They said her card was used in the Tower District and in Madera.

Not sure. A 911 call by someone.

Also a nearby neighbor after seeing the news called in that they heard a commotion that night.

^I think the info above was from the news conference reported by Gardener1850 in post #9.^
