A judge at the San Diego Superior court denied a guardianship petition filed by Maricris Drouaillet, sister of long Missing Maya Millete, a Chula Vista mother of three who disappeared nearly 10 months ago.
Maya's three children, ages 5,10 and 11, will remain in custody of ther paternal grandparents, Benito and Judith Millete. Their father, Larry Millete, husband accused of murdering his wife Maya Millete, remains in jail without bail.
Temporary custody and eventual permanent custody was sought out by Drouaillet for Maya’s children ages 5,10 and 11 in a
petition filed on Nov. 2. Plans to relocate Maya’s children to Moreno Valley in Riverside county was outlined in the petition, along with adding all three children to Drouaillet’s medical insurance and intentions to seek therapy was indicated if guardianship was granted.
“This is not about the Talabanza Family versus the Millete Family. It is about ensuring that the Millete Children have overwhelming love and support from both sets of families,” Drouaillet said.
Drouaillet states Larry Millete’s parents have not allowed visitation from Maya's family since her disappearance on Jan.7.
The Judge granted relatives of the children visitation rights beginning Nov.14. Additionally, the children’s paternal grandparents are ordered to find mental-health care providers for the children.
A hearing on the children’s permanent custody is slated for
Jan.19.
